I just don't understand why people seem to dislike Patrick so much. It makes no sense, and in a way it comes off as "Ew, there's this guy who isn't ex-Gamespot all up in this site! This isn't what MY Giant Bomb should be like!" I dunno. It's immature.

Patrick is the dang man! Disappointed not to see Hotline Miami on there, but y'know, I enjoy that his lists are a little different from the rest (and not even by much!). Loved his explanation of his Papo & Yo choice.

UGH... I knew he'd go for the DVD menu "game" The Walking Dead as #1...

I want to stab Patrick in the eye for sayng "Papo y Yo" instead of its actual title.

When you're writing an editorial piece, you aren't supposed to preface every opinion you make with "I think..." or anything of that nature. Unless that is not what you're talking about, if that's the case then point me to an example.

Patrick, I kind of feel weird about this, but thank you for not having Far Cry 3 on your list haha.

Glad to see at least one of the Giantbomb crew giving Dishonored some due. For someone like me who loves both the Deus Ex and Thief games of old I found a lot to like in Dishonored (it's just too bad none of the other GB dudes did).

I feel like he's a lot more argumentative on the cast, and supports a lot of facts he later ends up being wrong about (and others being right). This has happened on several casts. It may just be my perception but I feel like he also has a huge bias for indie games and against triple A titles, and is more willing to cut a game some slack if it comes from some small studio while nitpicking a game if it came from a major publisher. And it's a personal opinion but I feel like he gives too much importance on a game being "original" and tends to have lower opinions of games that are fun even if they don't innovate the genre- he'll give a game a high score for trying something new even if he himself says that it ended up not being that fun, but if a game doesn't innovate but just has a strong execution (FC3, Halo) he'll talk about how bad it is.

That and all his preachy talk for various causes (bitching about GTA V not having a female protagonist, etc.) just made me really dislike him.

Yeah, but everyone else seemed to acknowledge that it was a great game in spite of the story, whereas Patrick made several comments about how he no longer thought the game was bad because of it.

Really what it comes down to for me is that what I like and what Patrick likes are 2 very different things. I care about gameplay more than anything in games, Patrick cares about it least. I care about story the least in games, Patrick cares about it the most. I don't not like Patrick because he wasn't in Gamespot or whatever, since I barely followed the crew in their gamespot days, it's just that my tastes line up with the OG Bombcrew a lot more than they do with Patrick's tastes. Plus his indie bias still bothers me.

Great list, probably the most interesting so far. It's good to see Papo Y Yo getting some props, and the reasoning behind it was pretty touching. Keep on Tricking, Tricky.

This video has made me ghey for Patrick.

I'll swap the indie bias and raise you a slight console bias, not saying it's a bad thing, because everyone of the Giantbomb members have their own. It's just that Patrick is more verbal about his likes and dislikes. However, I have to disagree with you about being argumentative and wrong. Of all the Giantbomb members, save Vinny(I mean, it's Vinny), Patrick is probably the least(though he is verbal) argumentative, I'd have to give that title to Jeff or Brad(2010 DLC anyone). As for facts, if there's anything Patrick' has done since his addition to the GB community, is bring in a slew a well written(save his grammar) factually sound or referential articles to the site(ignoring articles in which he voices his opinion, which is to be expected).

Not to mention he's also quick to admit fault and interact with the community. Something that(while not attacking them) the veteran cast has seemingly stopped doing or rarely does(save maybe drew). Maybe it's because I've followed Patrick since he was under Sessler's wing, but once you get past his.....[in a sense] jittery child like affinity for games you see that he has a somewhat untainted and open brashness to his journalistic style that makes for a refreshing read/watch(if sometimes a bit hard on the ears). However, I will agree that his choice of words, though earnest, can be unpleasant and he's also a bit over zealous in the verbal department(a habit similar to Sessler).

But I digress, he's a grown [married] man for crying out loud and I'm not trying to fight his battles or change your opinion or anything of that sort, I'm just[as you] stating what I've noticed.

(Also that Youtube page is horrifying)

agreed on papo y yo, but this doesn't take away from his contribution to the site on its own merit. since his hire, giantbomb has been better on all accounts. He keeps this site fresh and growing via new features he leads (like Worth Reading and in-depth interviews like the Walking Dead) or keeping things fresh with a different perspective. He's insanely talented.

How can anyone say Patrick doesn't care about gameplay when the whole reason Mark of the Ninja is on is list is due to its excellent gameplay?

Indeed. Patrick is a dude who happens to like new and interesting things that challenge our understandings of what a videogame is, and I'd love to see anyone find anything like that in the big budget industry this year. I happen to greatly sympathize with that taste in games as well.

Great list. I'm probably going to finally dip into The Walking Dead starting tonight.

Why, when the list in question reflects your own opinions the most, of course.

Sometimes Patrick reminds me why I'm glad they brought him on board.

Jeff may be one of the great wizened veterans of video game journalism, but Patrick is the guy actually looking for what makes video games great, unique, and inventive in their own different way. I may not always agree with him, but damn if I don't always want to hear what he thinks.

That was a very unique and diverse list. Probably the best one I've seen so far from the staff at Giant Bomb.

As much as he talked about it, I'm rather surprised Tokyo Jungle isn't on his list. It was in mine.

Oh my God, I am so goddamn tired of hearing people immediately shut down any comments with "IT'S JUST AN OPINION YOU'RE NEVER ALLOWED TO COMMENT ON ANYONE'S OPINION EVER BECAUSE OPINIONS ARE NEVER WRONG AND CAN NEVER BE CHALLENGED OR COMMENTED ON IN ANY WAY OR YOU'RE A JERK THAT DOESNT GET IT AND.." and on and on.

The whole point of these extensive game of the year deliberations every year is the underlying premise that there is a way to argue about video games objectively, to some extent. If people don't like Patrick's tastes, or want to criticize something Ryan said about another game, they're free to do so and it isn't immediately invalid.

Yes and No... it's a personal top ten list... there is not much to discuss past, "I agree" or "I disagree", there isn't much to argue about
