On walking dead talk. I felt it was weird that Vernon would steal the boat and beat up Kenny, I felt it was out of character for him.

If they made season 2 of Walking dead I kind of wish it was 10 years later and you're Clementine.

Did they not even mention Journey for Best Debut?

@Duffyside: Yeah, I was surprised they didn't even have it on their shortlist. But when they started mentioning the criteria of wanting to see more of a series/style of game, I could understand the exclusion. Journey is more a singular experience.

Given the ending of episode ,5 i feel that if they do a time-skip it's unlikely to be more than a couple of years. Especially since the game is canonical, they're probably not allowed to set the game in a timeline further than the comics.

IF THEY HAD FOUR NOMINEES, there would be so much less arguing.

They are actually longer this year. Last year day one was 1 hour and 36 minutes, this year's 2 hours and 3 minutes. Last years day two one hour and 42 minutes, this year's 1 hour and 25 minutes. In total, 10 more minutes of content than last years.

OK, listening to other people's Walking Dead choices... just makes me think I made all the right choices, and they made the dickish wrong choices. Vinny especially seems to have gone the opposite on everything I did. Just seems weird hearing about it.

I guess it speaks to the strength of the game, that the choices you make seem like the only right choices.

Can I just say, I really, really hate how many times people have completely ignored technical issues in games this year. Especially Patrick. Walking Dead is fucking broken, it has some bad stuff, and that should never, ever be ignored. If you experienced it, it should be a part of the deliberations. It's bullshit to say "that stuff doesn't matter."

Honestly, I think the amount of total fuckedness that Walking Dead contained should take it off of pretty much all of the GOTY lists out there, but I know that no one is going to care that for a shocking number of people, the game was unplayable for large chunks of it's life. Still is for some, and those people can't even get freakin' refunds. There is a certain point that the editors' experience should be adjusted when stuff like that is present in the way it has been for Walking Dead.

But, whatever, it's not that big of a deal. If they love it, cool. I just hate when people dismiss flaws just because they like the game and want to push for it to win awards.

@MordeaniisChaos: I had the Walking Dead bug on the PC where the episode stuff doesn't carry over properly. I worked around, and still had a great time - it was one of my favorite games this year.

I guess everyone can decide what is most important to them - if they sayit doesn't matter, that means it doesn't, at least to them. And it is their list of top games, take it or leave it.

You can make your list of most technically polished and bug free games of 2012 yourself.

Man that Skrillex and Bob Marley's kid's dubstep song was sooooooooo much better than Paper Planes in FC3

Thanks for forcing me to finally finish The Walking Dead. I bought the season when the first one came out and stopped playing after Episode 2.

As far as spin-offs go, Far Cry Instincts was fantastic, especially for a late Xbox game.

Brad you're crazy. The approach on the hotel is one of the best moments in the game! I will admit, it's not as cool if you cut off your hand.

It's only a minor change at the start, but that little extra scene is pure "let's do this".

I'd like to see a timeline jump with Clementine too, but I've heard that the guys who write the comic are SUPER protective over their timeline, and that it will never, ever happen.

also- where was the fight for all of these debuts!? no one even tried! and then Fez ends up as a nomination and great games get thrown under the bus. suppose that's the nature of GOTY

GAH, I said that as soon as they said she was eight.

There also seems to be a lot of confusion over Clem talking to the Stranger over the radio. She's openly talking to him throughout the game and there are scenes showing her talking on the radio. The majority of people simply assumed she was pretend talking to her parents. When Larry gets his head smashed Lee has the option to tell Clem to pretend talk on the radio with her parents because it makes her feel better. On the train when Clem and Lee are training she asks Lee if she can use the radio to talk about their plans with her parents. When Lee finds out that Clem has been talking with the stranger of the radio everyone thought it was pretend because they all assumed it was broken. There was no issue.

As for Vernon's actions with the boat not being in character with the guy I guess that depends on the type of Vernon you had. If you made bad choices like threatening him in the cancer person place, letting Ben die and others I'm not aware of he'll come off really negative when he talks to you about taking Clem. You also have the chance to tell him off (I did that) when he asks to take Clem.

As for the hand being cut off or not there are plenty of scene differences. If you keep your hand Lee has a good number of fainting spells that puts the group on edge and is the catalyst for Kenny wanting to kill Lee in the attic.

Brad wants you to know that his favorite game is better than your favorite game.

I can hear Jeff's contrarian instincts starting to kick in here with respect to the Walking Dead.

Ryan is wrong. The Walking Dead does address why the fence turns on on it's own. Lee and Mark scold at the brother for it going on, and he's like "Oh I thought I heard you guys say to turn it on!"

I'm with Patrick. There's no way that a game called Far Cry 3 is more surprising than a game called ZombiU.
