Funny that I've got exact opposite opinions on this. Releasing the game in multiple parts is fine, so long as they keep a good schedule once they start dropping. It's the possibility of not having the good old ATB combat that makes me worry and want to avoid it.
@freedom4556: You know what? Seeing the open areas in ffXV (even if I'm still not convinced about that world/story and it's many iterations), I wouldn't mind if they applied THAT techology for exploring the world outside Midgard. If memory servers, The Highwind doesn't come into play until disc 2, right? So what if in stead of the super open (but albeit a bit empty) worldmap of ff7 we got more contained but highly detailed areas? If I had to sacrifice complete freedom of exploration of a rather featureless world vs a more focused (and perhaps suprising) exploration... Wouldn't that be an interesting tradeoff to see?
...Although... I still don't know how they would implement a world like that once we get acces to the flying ship, the submarine and the allmighty golden chocobo...
@songhunter: I suppose it could be cool, and I'm reserving judgement. It's just Squenix's tendency lately in battle systems towards speed at the cost of all else. Battles in XIII and XIII-2 just amounted to mashing X with a frequency of 1 hertz. The Crystarium was essentially linear. FF XII could play itself if you set the gambits up properly. XV is a game nobody's played (much) yet, and it's battle system and progression could be totally superficial and flashy. I'm someone who wants to be in control of all aspects of my team's performance that matter, and if that means turn-based then that's what I prefer. I hate surrendering control to the AI, but if I must I at least want to 'program' that AI beyond simple healer or debuffer settings. We'll see.
@freedom4556: That's a fair point you make. But as much as I disliked the gambit system for the very reason you mention (FFXII is the closest I've seen to a game that ends up playing with itself), I'm quite sure they'll bring some form of it back if they're sticking to their guns of a non turn based battle system. But you're absolutely right about the flashy-over-substance. I'm sure we'll have materias so I guess it's a question of seeing if they're gonna overhaul that system in some way to add or substract layers of complexity, but at least we know that the base is a solid one.
I think they are perfectly justified in making this a multi-part series. Especially because it's a remake, and because of the supposed craving fans have had for it.
Also they can ditch the old-style over world for all I care. Why not just have a standard open and/or segmented world like FFXII or something?
now, I like listening to Jeff talk video games as much as anyone...but what exactly is the point of these? they're never stories that aren't covered on the podcast or news articles, and they're so short there's not enough time for Jeff to branch out get his snark on. are these just kinda remnants from a time when this sort of thing was necessary on the site?
I don't see what the problem is. And I'm sure the first EP will be out way before 2020, hopefully. If Square-Enix fans need a Final Fantasy fix until XV, Lightning Returns just came out on PC yesterday.

Jeff was talking about when the entire game will be out and even though I hope he'll be proven wrong, it might really take them to 2020 or whatever.
I don't like that Jeff uses sweetened effects in this minute. It cheapens the minute and makes it seem like its for moms and dads who "need to know".
It is. The GiantBomb Gaming Minute is just something CBS puts in their radio show. It's intended for people who are only a tiny bit interested in video games.
Jeff uploads it to the site too. because hey it's more content.
