I have to agree with Brad on the class based vs regular team based argument. I generally have a lot more fun with anything multiplayer that's class based IF I'm playing with friends, because it forces you to work together much more if you want to win, the experience of playing off each others abilities is just nicer. In other team based shooters, those roles feel so much more on the periphery.

I think the underlying theme, for me at least, is that in the typical team based shooters, the fun is getting more skilled and that's it, and I'm not young anymore and everyone is more skilled than me, so those games just aren't fun. In class based games, you need your friends much more to compensate for your lack of abilities, and that experience of calling on your friends for help, or being there when they call on you, is just nicer, even when you're losing. Having said that, when you're not playing with your bros, the CODs of the world are much simpler affair, and more fun, than the Battlefields and the TF2s of the world.

There's gonna be a lot of disappointed semi casual gamers who saw a Titanfall trailer, got all hype, thought this was a system seller, invested in it, then got bored after a month and put it down. Especially once they find out it was on 360 and didn't have to buy a new console to play it.

I think they're just projecting their own insecurities and lack of social skills onto the crew, and that listening to the Bombcast is probably the closest they come to engaging in an actual conversation throughout the week.

I think the level of hero worship here can be downright fucking creepy at times, like people think that the crew would be in tears, ready to pound the shit out of each other if we weren't there to reassure them and post-humorously moderate their discussions. These are grown-ass men having a normal conversation and people are acting like they're threatening to break up the site or something.

It's weird and creepy and gross and sometimes it makes me embarrassed to say I'm part of this community.

I agreed to your previous post, but this one seems a little too drastic.

I rarely see "hero worship", I see a bunch of dudes who enjoy "hanging out" with the staff from this website. They are entertained by them and consider them friends. There's nothing creepy about people enjoying other peoples company. You honestly sound way too upset over nothing, much like the original post you responded to.

Well said - in that respect, I was siding with Jeff as well. The both of them haven't been incredibly articulate about their respective points, but the argument was still well worth having.

I don't get how Jeff didn't get what Brad was saying. Brad was saying there are classes in PvZ:GW and it gives you more to do than to just shoot at guys or "left trigger, right trigger" as he put it.

Then Jeff is like "nuh uh, you can defend an area, you can snipe..." which completely misses the point. In order to defend an area, you shoot guys. In order to snipe, you shoot guys. Brad was talking about doing other things besides shooting guys like healing your teammates, setting up turrets or traps, etc., which comes along with class-based multiplayer games.

Was he really that confused? It seemed more like he was just mad that Brad had a valid argument against generic FPS games that he likes.

Pretty much. I know Jeff tends to be more sweet on CoD and FPS shooters in general than the rest of the group, but Brad was being really reductive and generalizing too much like he often does. True, class-based shooters have more explicit strategic roles, but there is a lot more going on in a good FPS shooter than a lot of people (who don't know how to play them very well or don't care to, which are both fine) seem to appreciate. Brad didn't really seem to know how to handle it when Jeff called him out on his reduction, so he seemed to hastily react with not much of an argument. Perfectly fine for Brad to like what he likes (and Jeff or anyone else to like what they like), but his trying to make a personal preference into some universal truth wasn't very successful.

That said, I love it when they argue, haha. Spices things up. And people should stop acting like they were about to knife each other or something. It was nothing more than a simple heated exchange. So keep on keepin' on. :)

There were four people on that TNT. One of them is dead, one of them doesn't work at GB, one of them doesn't work in SF and isn't on the podcast regularly, and the other person was Jeff, who doesn't like TF2, spent a lot of that show being dismissive about the game and would have forgotten everything about that TNT in the year plus since it happened if he didn't already discard that memory the second the TNT was over.

Really, that comment about a horde mode in TF2 by Brad was the only thing that made me want to say anything. As far as that entire argument between Jeff and Brad is concerned, both of them were idiots in different ways and neither deserved to be crowned the "winner" of the debate by the time it ran its course.

@three0nefive: Eh, just wanted to point out how little your armchair pseudo psychologist insult had to do with the actual comment by making a non-sequitur armchair pseudo psychological insult of my own.

Are you sure you're not the one hero-worshiping them? I mean, any new listener would automatically assume that Jeff hates Brad from their little spats lately. If you've been following them long enough to somehow know that this is normal and they can handle arguments like that, then perhaps you're the creepy one who has been spending too much time with them? Surely thinking that Brad and Jeff hate eachother is a sign of someone who isn't creepy and hasn't spent enough time following Giantbomb? Perhaps you're so scared of the thought that Giantbomb could split up that you angrily lash out at anyone who second guesses the crew's relationship? /noncertifiedpsychologist

Point is, it's stupid to accuse people of being "creepy" when the Giantbomb crew put themselves out there via countless podcasts, videos, twitter, and tumblr. To be so sure of their relationship is just as creepy, if not more creepy than being unsure of it.
