Giant Bombcast 02-28-2012

Damn it I hate when I finally get time to listen to the bombcast but it's too late to listen to all of it. Do I start now and stop partway or do it all in one shot?

Maybe I should just quit my job so I can stay up later...

After the Bioware discussion during last TNT it's interesting to hear that they recognize that the diminished Bioware reputation is coming from something deeper than just a bad game and some minor issues. As they point out, Bioware has changed their philosophies quite a lot in the recent years, and while they used to be in the small club of "we want to make the game people doesn't know they want" developers they are now much more interested in pandering to player feedback. It's always sad for gaming to see yet another developer giving up on innovation and daring to be different.

I'm a bit disappointed at them glossing over the issue of field of view but Jeff going "yeah, that widescreen in Bioshock was a problem." Here's a video that does an okay job explaining:

It's not just used to cheat in Quake. I set my FOV for single player games too.

I played the demo for Snake Eater and actually liked playing it with the default controls. I picked up a copy at launch and am almost to The End. Really enjoying it.

So let me guess: there's massive mouse lag in menus (and in-game, unless of course you disable V-sync and edit the config file), it's got textures from a PS2-era game, you have to hold down F12 and Caps Lock to crouch (and you can't remap the controls, because why would anyone want to do that?), and it won't get any of the patches or DLC from the console version.

Basically you guys should just stop talking about the PC versions of games.

@Ares42: I doubt EA is helping much in that regard either, it's always a shame when publishers start pushing a studio in a direction that benefits said publisher more than anyone.

Jeez. Here's my view on the whole Fighting Game Community thing... At some point it is what it is, that way of things has been there quite sometime, so who the fuck is anyone to come in and say "HEY! Calm that shit down." It isn't up to anyone to try to kill that kind of community. Don't force people to be what they aren't...

This is such a chaotic bombcast. Love it.

Also, Jeff, if you're going to play Asura's Wrath, and Dave is going to watch you, how about a service to the community in the form of a Jeff + Dave Asura's Wrath endurance run? The game might take two days at the most to beat, and we could all see the crazy shit that happens without having to 'play' it. I'm like Dave in that respect, in that I'm curious what happens, but don't want to play it. I could Youtube it, but the commentary wouldn't be the same.

If a community depends on the ability to say derogative shit to each other to survive, then that community should not survive.

if thats the case then major parts of giantbombs community should be excised , not only are people derogatory to eachother but to the people actually providing the content etc

Having not been involved in the arcade scene, I don't understand the rationale behind the racism and sexism coming out of the mouths of people like that dude whose name is long. If you're gonna be competitive, be competitive the right way and compare skill levels - calling people names is low and pathetic. Imagine how horrible 'EVO moment 37' would have been if the crowd was chanting 'Rape that bitch!'. Ugh. The guys are right - the fighting scene would do best to leave those reprehensible people behind.

The Crusader Kings 2 tutorials are excellent, what's Dave on about? It's not just some paragraph! There's twenty-seven (27) separate tutorials that walk you through everything. Step by step.

It's just about the best tutorial I've seen for such a complicated game. It gives you a decent grasp of the basics, and a starting place to dig into the more esoteric stuff.

He was saying Giant Bomb doesn't know much or care much about what PC gamers want, not actually discussing the quality of the PC version of Syndiatae.

I freaking loved that fighting game discussion. Bombcast is always great for some laughs, but those discussions are why Giant Bomb is my favorite website.

The rape that bitch phrase is quite rare, even for an extremely frustrating character like Dark Phoenix in MvC3. People just called her "the bitch" sometimes and Yipes says she's spoiled.

There are egg-cars in Syndicate (just heard the statement from Jeff that there arent)

I'm being totally serious here, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is probably the best looking game I've ever seen and yes, it features copious amounts of Quicktime Events that are just as over-the-top as Asura's Wrath. But the most impressive part of that game to me was the cinematography and direction. Sadly Youtube doesn't really convey just how sharp those cinematics look.

I'm gonna name my first born "Links" after the best golf game ever made and when I'll require his/her attention I'll yell "FORE!"

As long as the name is a 'normal' name, I think it's not crazy, example Zelda Williams.

I know Vinny's problem of getting to a point where you just gotta clean, even if it's not really dirty or anything it's just a need to make your surrounding better, it's really really odd....
