You can put any skill in any slot with whatever rune you want

It isn't clear how to do it though which is the UI's biggest fault

@MordeaniisChaos: steam is like that now but at launch it didn't really do that.

My time in the beta was flawless and smooth. I had no problems

Brad, you're killing me reinforcing these Diablo 3 misconceptions. Both during the stream and this podcast. I know they've changed it a lot in the past 9 months, but if you're going to speak publicly about the game you really need to do your research. Although I guess I should blame Vinny for the region thing, not you. :P

I loaded up the Bombcast to distract me from the fact that Diablo III is down, and now I'm listening to them talk about how Diablo III is down.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

@scerviche: Yea, lol. It's funny when just about any time they try to reference D2 they get it completely wrong and just start speculating. xD Since Drew is apparently the only major Diablo fan in the office, it seems like a missed opportunity not having him on the Bombcast. Hopefully they'll have him on next week!

@MordeaniisChaos: Indeed. When pirates are capable of taking your content and making it not only better, but actually more functional, I find it difficult to muster up too much sympathy.

"No one cares about DRM as long as it works."

I've never disagreed with @Ryan more.

@MordeaniisChaos said:

@Ryan Steam allows you to go offline, pretty much no matter what. Sometimes it's a bit picky, but if you are logged in when you lose connection, or you know you are going to lose connection, you will absolutely be able to just switch to offline mode. On top of that, Steam never stops working in a way that prevents you from playing your game. Like... ever. I've never been unable to play a steam game because of steam. GTA IV has some god awful DRM that got difficult a lot.

You really shouldn't deal in absolutes. Just today I had Steam refuse to launch a game (just hanging at the "Preparing to launch" window). It's not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last. Even so, no matter how often Steam works now, once those servers go down your games are gone.

Ryan was talking about Max Payne 2 as a game he used to load up every now and then and just play for a bit. I used to do that too. I do that with Hitman Blood Money from time to time, too. Sometimes I just load up the Vegas level and murder EVERYONE in that casino. Maybe slightly psychotic, but hey. It's a video game!

Jeff should've been there for the last part. He loves to play through games quickly. Would've been nice to have heard his opinion about that and bring that into the discussion.

Not even thinking about Max Payne 3 multiplayer for TNT? Bummer.

Dismemberment in Max Payne 3? Patrick once agains mentions something which isn't true.

Someone should start a Twitter based on that topic.

I will not gang up on Patrick, which happens to be the GB community's favorite national past-time (sans nation, go figure), but I must admit that, as a real Max Payne fan, which I apparently must qualify now, it was damn near painful to hear all four tell each other how they were big Max Payne fans and proceed to mis-remember absolutely everything. No, Patrick, he didn't break the fourth wall in the second game at all, it happened in the first game... twice. If you say you're a fan, don't embarrass yourself seconds after making the claim.

Maybe I'm responding too vehemently, but I find this indicative of the quality of GB's "research" in general. I love the crew to death but would it kill you guys to look up your own damn wiki once in a while? Almost every QL is permeated with misunderstood of the game's basic concepts, the basic parameters (price and release date, etc) and sometimes even skill (which is optional, but that's another story). Put some effort into your jobs, take pride in your work. Yes, we all know video games and the internet are serious business, but seeing as how it's your business of choice, I'd expect you to be authorities of the most minor sort at least.

I said this last time it came up, but if the GB crew could get Chris Perkins to DM for them, they could make one hell of an entertaining weekly/biweekly feature out of Dungeons & Dragons. The Penny Arcade/PVP stuff with Chris DMing was a riot, and if you -- the GB guys, or anyone who's curious -- haven't listened to the podcasts of those sessions, you definitely should.

It may not be for everybody, but I feel a lot of people form really unfounded preconceptions about pen-and-paper RPGs that turn them off of the idea completely, or at least make them wary of the concept. With the right group of people, though, they can be some of the most fun gaming experiences you'll ever have. Listening to those podcasts can give you a good idea of how a well-run game with a tight-knit group plays out.

Yeah. I've got an Asus Xonar Essence STX in my system and it sounds absolutely fantastic. I can barely stand listening to music on my phone now that I know what it can sound like pumped into my headphones through a decent DAC and amplifier. It's also got Dolby Headphone support, which really adds to the immersion for games.

Don't really see how anyone can think Blizzard "won" or that they sued Valve out of their concern for the modding community. The only party who acted shitty was Blizzard. Not really a surprise given their recent history though.

CORRECTION : In Max Payne 1, you can turn on bullet time by itself, no need to shoot-dodge to activate it. I just played it again today.

Also "bullet cam" where you shoot the last guy in the cutscene continuously is also in Max Payne 1.

The only new mechanic in Max Payne 3 is the "last stand" mechanic.

If you played Blood Money then it's actually nearly impossible to go backwards as the games get a lot rougher and less enjoyable as you go. The first Hitman game had zero saving mid mission - no checkpoints no nothing.

@Humanity: I remember that you could dual-weld any kind of one-handed weapons in the first one, like an uzi in one hand and like a revolver or something in the other. I always wondered why they didn't keep that in the other ones.

I have no idea what Ryan and Patrick were talking about with being forced to stay in cover all the time in Max Payne 3. You're never in an area where you can just sit behind the same piece of cover, you'll either end up getting flanked, the cover will get destroyed, or both. What they said just made no sense. It also sounds like they have no idea how bullet time works in Max Payne 3, you can click in the right stick to do it while standing but anytime you dive, you get bullet time.

I don't play games like Diablo - but all of the people I know who were anticipating Diablo 3 were really looking forward to the story - one of my friends even says that the story of Diablo 2 is one of his favourite stories in gaming.

It might just be the people I know (and youtubers I watch like OMFGCata - Jesse Cox). It seems like Diablo 3 is for the people who really wanted a story and anyone who only wants the mechanical side is waiting for Tortchlight 2 or is just going to stay with Diablo 2.

For any Diablo 3 players (who can actually get in) that doesn't know about this: In the options, there is an "Elective" mode that allows you to assign ANY skill to ANY button. You can assign left click abilities to hot key 1 or hot key 2 skills to right click and so on. Sure, there is no skill tree, but using this mode, you can spec the class to your liking

@simkas: well theres no real reason to dual wield unless you want to go back to a previously beaten level and just go nuts and even then the ballers pistols make people like fly at the ceiling
