If you are staying somewhere where you can get USC wireless, you should really dodge the Del Tacos and Chik-fil-As of the world and get some dank Mexican food at El Huero (formerly Chano's), the top choice for post-binge drinking by most students: http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-huero-los-angeles-2

I'll take talk about Overwatch ALL DAY - ANY DAY over VR... Overwatch (might be good?) but VR is just over priced cool tech with really bad games... ummmm (secret here, sorta sounds like it was with Kinect) ha ha ha! (sadly, I own 2 Kinect devices and neither are hooked up).

Ok done, now continue to hate on / about talk about Overwatch.. Just wanted to put my two cents in..

Thank You!

Wow Mirrors Edge sounds badddddd.....when the ending is bad on both gameplay and story and the gameplay of what I saw in the quicklook looked bad to me already....yup. This franchise is dead now.

I know you guys are all sneering about "Who wants a new Evil Within?" but lemme tell you a thing or two!... The Evil Within is an alright game that occasionally brushes RE4-level greatness before plummeting down to reality thanks to plenty of bullshit insta-death game sequences that reminded me a bit of RE6. I could see a sequel to it turning out alright if they learned their lessons. It certainly interests me more than say... Watch underscore Dogs 2, which is going to be another Ubisoft open world game.

I have no interest in playing Overwatch and still haven't found the amount of coverage bothersome at all. They didn't discuss it much for this podcast, but it comes up because they keep going back to it. It's not like the exhaustive Destiny coverage with one guy trying to stand up for it against a disappointed room week after week. If anything, it's nice to hear them talk about things they actually enjoy.

Also, much as I love him on the Beastcast, it was great hearing @alex on the Bombcast again. There's a spark of magic between him and WestJeff.

''Did anyone even like The Evil Within?'' Right, because since nobody on their staff liked it then it was clearly a terrible game that was reviled and panned from every direction.

Making a sequel to The Evil Within is a fantastic idea, because it was a great game, but was still bogged down by numerable design flaws (some awful bosses with one-hit kills, undercooked stealth) that can hopefully be cleaned up with a sequel. That, and if they incorporate the enhanced stealth and horror elements from the Juli Kidman DLC, then all the better. Since Tango are also now more experienced with ID Tech (of which the version they worked with wasn't even fully translated into Japanese) then that would hopefully mean The Evil Within won't have the technical issues that the first had. That is they even decided to continue with that engine.

It's not that I care that none of them like TEW, because whatever, it was ultimately a divisive game anyway. The key word being 'divisive', so for him to actually ask if anyone even liked it to begin with, and to also proclaim how ''terrible'' of an idea it is that the series continues, made Jeff seem really out of touch.

Regarding pachinko emulation, there's actually a pretty popular online service in Japan called 777town, which gets regularly advertised in the Yakuza games, even the English localizations. It simulates most of the major licensed pachinko machines you'd remotely hear about, barring I believe Konami's stuff and some other pachinko-exclusive "series," so to speak. Basically, there's a free version which lets you play a handful of lower end machines (mainly slot machines, rather than proper pachinko, if I recall), or you can pay a monthly subscription fee of like $10 for access to either all the pachinko or slot machines or $18 a month to have the whole run of everything.

Not that I endorse getting anywhere near that stuff, speaking as someone burdened with the unfortunate knowledge of how to play the damned things and what makes different units distinct, but you can find the list of machines they have here. They recently even added the Persona 4 anime pachinko machine to remind you that no Japanese property is truly above being pachinko'd!

'I'm not playing for the progression, but for the actual fun!'

Welcome to good multiplayer shooters.

Also, I locked a Reaper ult in a Winston bubble the other day. That felt good.

Also, Splash Damage did not work on Doom. Apparently, they worked/are working on the multiplayer side of the Gears of War games.

About the whole talk on the aiming in Overwatch, isn't the auto-aim more prevalent on consoles since everyone's using a controller? I've heard that console ports, and in some cases controllers used on PC, will enable or give you the option of "more" auto-aim.

Like Warframe on PC for instance has an auto-aim toggle for controller-use only to help compensate with the whole mouse & keyboard advantage thing. I don't know if Overwatch is doing this on PC but I wonder.

I've also wondered if a fully-powered Hanzo shot has some punch-through when it comes to thin surfaces. Like some bullet types in other games.

I can see Evil Within 2 being a pretty decent game. The first one had some serious flaws but it was conceptually really interesting. I'm not sure how they continue it as a series but if they tweaked the mechanics a bit and maybe got away from that whole "hey guys SO oldschool!" feeling it had at times it could be the next great survival horror game - although it's not like that genre has much of a competition going on now. My main issue with Evil Within was how they purposefully dissuade you from combat, making the player logically favor stealth, but the stealth just wasn't very good. The idea behind this is sound: having to creep past groups of baddies adds a lot more tension to an already creepy atmosphere. The problem was that the stealth was extremely limited in how it worked and when fighting did eventually break out your weapons were so incredibly underpowered.

It's a bummer to hear how lackluster the story is in Mirror's Edge for a couple of reasons, 1) obviously I wanted Mirror's Edge 2 to be better game than the previous one and 2) it once again reconfirms that DICE cannot create a compelling single player story to save it's life.

It makes me think that should the next Star Wars Battlefront game get a single player campaign it's likely going to be highly mediocre and forgettable.

@jbuchan76: you can talk all you want about bad games, but the tech is not over-priced by any stretch. Expensive, yes. But paying any less for the insane tech that those headsets offer would be a steal.

I am digging all this Burnout talk. 3: Takedown is my most favorite game - it's the one that made car-to-car combat awesome, made crashes just another way to take down your opponents, and a sense of speed that very few games have matched.

I feel bad that I didn't enjoy 3's crash mode as much as others did, but the multipliers took a lot out of it. The 4x one may as well be called instant gold medal for the targets they had, so any junction that had them boiled down to run into stuff, then collect 4x multiplier. Those junctions became a lot more enjoyable in Burnout Legends when the multipliers were gone.

I don't put Revenge on as high of a pedestal as Takedown, but I really liked the tracks. Multiple paths, shortcuts, jumps, and places to drop on opponents gels surprisingly well with the car-fu, since you could never be certain where they'll attack from.

Dominator wasn't a Criterion joint, but it brought some cool ideas to the table. Dangerous-driving-focused Maniac mode trumps smash-vehicles-focused Traffic Attack, and I thought Signature Shortcuts were a cool expansion of Signature Takedowns.

Paradise was a cool open-world game to goof about in, but I think the events suffered for it. When I'm barreling down the streets at 200 MPH, the last thing I want to worry about is where to turn for the best route. The stunt, road rage, and similar events boiled down to going to the easiest areas to rack up points and looping back as much as possible. I still had lots of fun, now, and the multiplayer was really, really awesome.

Man I would give anything for a new entry in the series even if it's just a best-of collection for the current gen. At the very least, I'm going to hold Alex to his promise to do something with it (I hope it's an Encyclopedia Bombastica vid :p).

I was under the impression for TMS #FE it's supposed to be a sharp, as in the musical notation. Since the game has a massive focus on music.

(Which is used to indicate it should be a half-step higher pitch than what's noted.)

That's true, but we're talking about Giantbomb here. The tutorials could be right on the screen, they would ignore them, then complain that the game doesn't tell them anything.

yo, fuck burnout paradise

I generally liked Burnout Paradise but the open world wasn't my thing when it came to the actual races. Countless times I'd make one wrong turn, get totally turned around/lost and then within five seconds of my mistake I had no hope of winning much less even placing in the race.

I much rather preferred the linear races of the previous games.

That said when I wasn't racing I loved driving around the city in the free roam mode launching my car off of ramp after ramp.
