Woo, Reach Day! The game is the shit.

Knowing the Titanic was going to sink didn't make seeing Kate Winslet's boobs any less fun. Spoilers would suck!

The UPS guy that delivered my copy of the game delivered it to the wrong house. Now I have to wait two extra days to play the game. Fiddle sticks.

I finished it in one sitting last night/this morning and was blown away. Reach is the first Halo game to capture entirely that sense of awe I got playing Combat Evolved. A lot of the levels even play out like fan service if you're very familiar with the series. I got a lot of "Silent Cartographer" and "Truth and Reconciliation" vibes from 2 of the levels in particular.   
 
Jeff's not kidding about the latter third falling flat though. After completing the final missions I thought, "Oh no, that was how they decided to end the saga?" but the post-credits sequence end the series on a more interesting note. I'm still so used to a huge, spectacle-filled Warthog race at the end, so the final mission in Reach was a little jarring.
 
I vastly prefer the pacing and gameplay of the Halo series to military shooters like Modern Warfare, so this game is a 5 out of 5 for me, no question. I completely understand the rationale behind the 4 though, and I always respect the Bomb Squad's opinions, even if they differ greatly from my own. 
 
Awesome review, Jeff. Don't worry, some of us do recognize that a 4 is still a great score.

Just picked up my copy of the game as soon as I finish watching this I'm heading online.

And yet again we see Jeff getting into the most hellish checkpoint situations I can never imagine.

Nice review Jeff, also interesting checkpoint timing and a cool airrocket - if that was a rocket.. have never been that into Halo.

I have never been a Halo fan so I will not be purchasing this game. I tried the beta, it wasn't for me.

Reach is amazing. I absolutely love what I have played so far. It is definitely the ultimate Halo package, and a fitting farewell from Bungie to the franchise and its fans.

Bad checkpoint

So are other people getting the messed up video with the HD stream? Mine has a lot of blocky splotches popping up like static.  Tried both progressive and streaming on multiple browsers.

LMAO that exact same scenario at the end happened to me in halo 1, me and my coop buddy spent an hour trying to bailout just right so we could save our progress

Cool, cool... Doesn't help that I'm still in Korea for the next to months or so, but, whatever, I didn't want to play Reach anyway...

Love love love the game. It returns to a lot of the gameplay roots of Combat Evolved (my favourite in the series) while keeping the advances made in 2, 3, and ODST.

So that ending, is that like...the game saved at a checkpoint right before you died?  And so you were screwed?

Holy shit the Bungie.net stats are good. The Halo 2 remakes had be 'nostalgiaing'  so hard when I first jumped online

As a fan of Halo, I've been loving this game. It will definitely be somewhere on my 10 top list of 2010.

I like how glowey and shiny the game looks.  It looks pretty awesome in comparison to all the brown and gray shooters.

That situation happened to me like 20 mins ago near the end of mission 3. After getting fucked over by the checkpoint of me skidding off a cliff into the giant lake. The game just reset me back one more checkpoint and I was fine.

Makes me want an Xbox, if only my Wii would go through puberty and become one.
