I really wonder what these guys do all day long? So you have an average of 5 videos (if you're lucky) per week at about 40 minutes. Sure, some extra work for editing and putting it on the website.

So between 3 and 4 hours of video content per week (yeah, some weeks 10, but also some weeks almost nothing) and a 2 hour podcast and one review average per week, with a staff off about seven people working seven hours a day. So that's about 300 Giantbomb work hours in total for not that much content at all.

I'm not taking a piss btw, I' really, REALLY wonder. Because this can't simply be true.

this

They play games before quicklooks and there probaly lot more production stuff that goes on. Really the crew should make new behind the scened series about what theyre days actualy go with. I would imagine theres way more corporate stuff burning time than we know.

Those first two comments make it very clear that neither of those individuals have worked in a content production business of any kind.

So that means I'm not allowed to ask (sincerely) about it? If people say that the rest of those hours go to production, meetings and playing the games, then fine. But my perception is otherwise.

Oh, and I didn't even bring up premium content which has really disappointed me. TNT is the only really thing going on at the moment and non paying customers can watch those for free live or archived at Giantbombs Twitch account.

Don't get me wrong; I absolutely LOVE GiantBomb. But since when aren't customers allowed to share their discontent? It's not like I'm doing so in a offensive way or something. But hey, my subscription is still going till mid 2014, so they have some time to persuade me to renew my membership. But at this rate (and I'm certain some other premium members feel the same way) it's not going to happen.

Hammer x nail. I'd like to see how they think TV productions work. Reality is 18 hours of daily filming over three days and up to a week of editing for a one hour episode.

No one said you weren't entitled to your opinion. It just seems rather baseless, and came off as more of a rant than anything else. Now I'd like to present this and get your opinion:

Week of Jan 7-13, going Monday to Sunday for funsies here.

6 Quicklooks: Drox Operative - 29:51, Kentucky Route Zero - 32:57, Anarchy Reigns - 37:24, Skyrim: Dragonborn - 1:07:55, Perspective - 14:41, Fluidity: Spin Cycle - 23:01

1 Live show: TNT - 1:36:10

1 Mailbag: "That belongs in a Museum!" - 28:16

1 Podcast: Giant Bombcast 01-08-2013 - 3:10:22

That's 455:41 minutes or roughly 7:59:08 (hr/min/sec) of content in video and audio form. That's not taking into consideration the articles on both the live site and http://seaserpent.giantbomb.com/ or the forums with thousands of users interacting with each other and the staff.

Is that not enough content?

@SomeJerk: The issue that a few people have is that they are paying for this content unlike your reality TV example which is free programming (not counting the cable stuff as that is a whole other topic). While the price is insignificant for most, it is the ROI that people are interested in. They want to know that they are getting their money's worth, especially for the premium/exclusive content.

The lack of content some weeks is kind of baffling to me as well. Yes there is corporate nonsense, and obviously there is travel/preview coverage for games that aren't out yet that can't be spoken about but there are weeks when even I wonder what these guys do to pass 8 hours a day.

I work in an office and 40 hours a week sometimes is excruciatingly long. Yes there are lulls in the industry (last week was a prime example) but even on the busy weeks, sometimes the guys only relegate to talking about a game in the podcast for a few minutes, even on games they have played to completion. Cases in point are Splinter Cell Conviction and Homefront. They talked about each for multiple weeks on the podcast yet there are no quick looks or any coverage of the games on the site outside of a few trailers. Sometimes the lack of coverage is really underwhelming and chastising people because they have a question about what people are doing with their money is truly ignorant.

I love this site. It is one of the few places on the net that keeps it real while also keeping it legitimately fake and sarcastic at the same time. A rare feat this day and age with all the cynicism in the world. No place else on the net (at least from my experience) has there been a cast of characters this experienced, yet this down to Earth and earnest about their pasts and overall habits in the industry. People reading a review, article, or watching a quick look can know whether or not they can agree or disagree with an opinion since they know the people involved and their mindset.

End Rant.

@Butano: Scholastic Book Club: Hustlin' money from children throughout the 90's. I still remember to this day the sheer disappointment from waiting weeks for my Batman & Robin movie novelization to arrive, finally receiving it and well, discovering that it was a movie novelization of Batman & Robin. No child should go through that!

Yes, that's almost 8 hours of content in a week @Landmine. My point still stands though. That's 8 hours content generated by a crew of about seven working 7-8 hours a day. That's hardly productive. It's like @NeilRapalee is saying, the content just isn't there sometimes.

But maybe it's purely a strategic decision. They might think that actually releasing a decent amount of content will overfill the website and scare people away. That's a valid thought. That's why I'm asking. But as it stands, I really don't agree with some decisions they make. Leaving the website almost a entire month behind for GOTY stuff is baffling to me. I get you need time in december to produce al the GOTY content, but you know that beforehand. Capture some stuff in november and release it in december or something.

The bigger and the bigger they get, the less they will get away with this stuff. But hey, nobody cares about me asking/complaining about this stuff. But it feels good to ventilate man! :)

@NicolasVH: For what it's worth, I agree with you. I find it incredible they can let the site just sit while taping something else. If what you're making requires 100% of your workforce, and you can't deliver 100% of the regular goods and services you normally provide, perhaps what you're working on shouldn't be so extravagant. Letting the site sit is a good way of losing viewers, who will go elsewhere for new video game related content.

This isn't to say the GOTY stuff wasn't funny, because it was. Was it worth the sitting time? That's debatable, but I happen to feel it was not.

@DexterKid: Start writing about it, and then post it on the Internet. If people read, and enjoy, what you are writing, you possibly got yourself a career. The thing is, with these guys, we all want to hear what they have to say. That is why they are successful. We trust the majority of their opinions, and find them entertaining. You need to build a base a of people who trust your opinion and enjoy listening to what you say, and bam, you can only go up from there.

You probably just posted that as a joke, but whatevs....

@NicolasVH: I disagree with you 100% as someone with an extensive background in a content production environment (we don't run a website on top of everything). I also don't agree with the idea that you somehow think you know how much content a site should provide by basing it on some simple math.

I could understand if you didn't care for the content provided, to each their own, but that is not the basis of your argument. You have instead framed the issue as one about effort, to which I say that you must not keep up with the content at all or you would otherwise know what this group is all about. Questioning peoples work ethic when you are ignorant of what kind of work goes on behind the scenes put your entire argument on shakey ground.
