I'm drunk as shit, so maybe i didn't understand the problem at all, but here is my take on USB range/extensions:

1. Use active extension cables.

2. Use active USB hubs with an power-supply between those extension cables.

3. Using the above explained system, i managed to reach an effective range of 30 Meters (90 Feet for those people using the wrong metrics), 2 active extension cables, 15 meters (45 feet) each. At the end of them i had an Bluetooth dongle, Xbox360 wireless controller receiver and an wireless mouse receiver connected. All of them working pretty much flawlessly, but i didn't measure latency/delay.

4. Some Computers might have trouble booting up with a setup like that connected to them. Try booting up without the USB cable connected and connect it after windows finished booting up.

All the above applies to USB 2.0, haven't had much experience with USB 3.0 as 2.0 had been sufficient so far for me. Overall i have to say that long range HDMI extensions gave me more trouble compared to long range USB connections. HDMI actually requires active extenders as opposed to USB connections, those seem to work fine as long as you put active USB hubs between those cables to extend the range.
