Jeff is an entertaining, funny media personality, but sometimes I have to listen to him honestly speaking to remind myself what bad taste he has in games.

@jeff I think you've got the wrong idea on A) the expectations of fans of what Half Life 3 will be, and B) the reason why people expect that stuff.

As for what fans (coming from a massive fan) expect, I don't think it's really that crazy. If they make another solid Half Life game with a good finish to the fiction or at least the arc of Half-Life 2 that has some decent iterations on the tech and gameplay, I'll be happy. I don't expect it to be wildly superior to Half Life 2 or some revolutionary game, and I don't know that anyone really does. And I think a lot of that is because at this point I want to complete the "experience" of that character, more than I want to just play that gameplay. Now, I do enjoy the gameplay in Half-Life, more than a lot of people because I don't mind occasional physics puzzles or long stretches without combat (the "water" level of Half Life 2 is one of my favorites just because that little boat is so fun to tool around in). But the gameplay isn't what made that game so amazing. It was the characters and the world and the "experience." And as long as Half Life 3 is close to as good as Half Life 2 but maybe a bit better looking and provides a satisfying finish to the experience, I'll be happy. I think you overestimate the impact that the time you wait for something has on what you're expecting out of it. People get more impatient, not more expectant.

I'd also point out that as fans, we've already invested money in their franchise. We expected to get more content and that's why we bought into the Half-Life 2 series of products. I think it's fair to say that they should put out a final chapter and finish what they started, because we put money into the franchise expecting it to go so far.

I'm not one to bitch about the fact that it's not out yet. Sure, I wish it was out, but I'm okay with waiting because I know most games that come when they are ready turn out just plain better. But I also think it should be finished.

That being said, it's hard to expect a reaction that understands that perspective as someone who's been very vocal about their feelings about the franchise in general. I always get a little puzzled when people decide to ask Jeff about Half-Life. lol.

Has Half-life 3 become the new Duke Nukem Forever? Valve just keeps teasing it and the crazy fans of that franchise go nuts wondering when that game's gonna come out?

IMO, they should just put Gordon Freeman into Portal 3.

Jeff is right about HL3 Fanatics. I was a fanatic for Diablo 2 and when D3 came around my expectations were ridiculous.

@jeff, whether or not you're suffering some identity crisis as a result from doing what you do with Giant Bomb (or outside of it), I just wanted to say that your candidness and honesty in all your content (or at least perceived honesty, according to you) is always super appreciated and enjoyed.

These jar videos never fail to depress me more. There's something so sorrowful about them. Poor video game journalist man in the quiet dark, a lonely soul, no voices to answer his today. Poor video game journalist man... he's just a man, with a man's problems, the same as you and me. Video game journalist man can't always make us laugh. Even video game journalist man needs some time to cry.

Jeff had a bit of a persona moment at the end =) adorable.

Audio was super low on this video. I don't want to have to put headphones on to listen to this. Had my speakers on full volume and could still barely hear it.

Eventually, the Bomb crew's lives will all change. Dave leaving because he got married and had a kid is nothing weird. Ryan is getting married soon and who knows what could happen there. We've been lucky to keep Vinny. As the duders get older, their live's can and probably should change. It might not be as drastic as leaving GB, but we can't expect them to stay the same forever.

I love when Jeff gets real. He's usually real, so when he gets really real like in this video, it's real cool.

@jeff i totally get the both things were me all along thing, took me the past year to realize that shit too. and when i came out of it, and came back to familiar things that i used to do, it seemed like that "me" was dead, because that shit just didn't matter to me anymore.

I did exactly that, and it was beautiful. Makes me wonder what other video clips that music can be played over to increase the emotional effect.

I hope he has a great time in his future, with family, games, websites...whatever, he's a great, smart guy.
