The story of Dan getting hired at Game Informer is legitimately kind of inspiring. I think there's actual lessons to be learned there that everyone can use.

Not sure why people think this new cutscene stuff is over the top.

The stuff in the later games is equally as insane, if not more, and totally bad ass. The dude becomes unbelievably awesome in 4.

Also, completely awesome if what Dan says about that Versus movie is right because I have that movie, for whatever reason, and I had no idea about those facts.

Edit 2: The hairs on my arms stood up and I got goosebumps listening to Brad describe what it was like when that trailer was shown. Those are the game convention moments you live for. Similar to the E3 PS4 showing with everyone cheering.

Edit 3: Kinda sucks that Drew has been spoiled a bit by seeing all these characters and events happening. Too much IMO.

Man this brings back some memories. I remember working at the mall in high school and going to the Babbage's to watch the MGS2 trailer with my friends on my breaks. That theme song!!! And Snake diving off the tanker after Ray. Seriously!

Cant wait for Drew to play MGS 2

I am so subbing for a year when Drew gets back from vacation and starts MGS2

So glad I get to come home and stay up an hour to see Drew get to watch these awesome trailers. Never saw that Twin Snakes trailer, absolutely crazy that they released that much of it.

And man having Brad describe the reaction to that first MGS2 trailer is simply spot-on. Must've watched that trailer 100 times, never got tired of it. And I unlike Brad I loved everything that I experienced.

Oh man, I was going to suggest to Dan that they watch some MGS2 trailers before they got started on that game. Also Metal Gear is anime as fuck lol.

If only the Ninja in Twin Snakes knew how to Parry Counter, he could have thrown Rex across the room and sliced it in half length-wise.

And this is exactly why I can't wait to see him play through MGS4. If the tiny bit Drew knows about 2 is already getting this reaction, 4 is going to make his head fucking explode.

That said, I'm still really really reeeeeeeally excited to see him play 2. It's going to be great.

Man I love watching these old Metal Gear Solid 2 trailers. It really puts into context just how fucking CRAZY Kojima was for going in the direction he went in that game. Mad balls on that guy.

I know this might seem like a dumb thing to ask, but does anyone know what Dan thinks of the MGS5 stuff we've been shown so far?

Edit: I would just like to point out that MGS2 pulls off stuff that games even today, two generations on since the PS2, still can't get right. I mean, sure, graphical fidelity has improved enormously, but in a lot of games that is still just window dressing.

Kojima was pretty damn nuts for hyping MGS2 the way he did while at the same time pulling the protagonist change behind the scenes. Got to give props to the guy for being willing to take a crapton of really dumb flak just so that he can realise his own vision for the series. MGS2 does suffer a bit from being a bit of a middle child of the series for it though; it feels more like a stepping stone than anything else the first time you play it. The more you think about it though, the more you realise that there is a lot of profound meta shit going on in the game, and that it subverts player expectations in a way that hasn't really been tried in games since.

As a Nintendo only player at the time I love twin snakes.

Probably helps that the only mgs game I've played since is four.

Though, ugh, I seem to remember a MGS2 tanker trailer that I obsessed over, but I can't find it now. It shows you landing on the tanker, followed by a few minutes of actual gameplay. I think my mind exploded with them showing the rain effects in real time, along with shooting individuals bottles and through glass.

I seem to remember it being a gameplay trailer from E3 or something, but I just know people went nuts over the bottles breaking. "That's not possible in a game," I'd hear, but the gameplay trailer showed that it was real. And the demo sealed the deal.

Yes! That's the one I'm thinking of, as well. My favorite preview of the game by far. The dramatic walking in the rain and then jumping onto the tanker. There is the crazy electrical effect as his suit turns off, and then he stands up, ready for battle. After that, there is just a few minutes of mind-blowing gameplay.

I can't find a link to that trailer/preview, but it must be out there somewhere. It was so freakin cool.

Dan, you could show Drew how Kojima and his team played SWAT in their offices during the making of 2 (the documentary) and I also remember reading about the clip you see in the trailer where Snake is running from the flooded hallway. They wanted to include that in the game but I believe I read that the water caught up with the players too fast and they ditched it. It didn't work as a gameplay mechanic or whatever.

Screw the haters, MGS2 is the best Metal Gear game..!

Honestly I was more disappointed by 3. I seem to remember it playing worse and looking worse but it has been a while and I have yet to play the HD version.

Hearing that part from Fortune's theme still sends shivers down my spine.

It's so weird to be excited at someone else playing a game, but MAN, I am SO excited to watch Drew play through MGS2. One of the best and craziest games of all time.

@danryckert@drewbert If you're looking for a name for Season 2, might I suggest: Metal Gear Scanlon 2: Dans of Drewberty? I know it's dumb. That's why I'm suggesting it!

Also, I still disagree with you guys on Twin Snakes, I love that game. It was my first exposure to MGS as a franchise (when I was 14), so I just wanted to mention that.
