This is, so far, one of my favourite features ever on this site. And that's saying a lot. I hope you do stick with it Drew - as others have mentioned, the controls improve with each game so stick in there!

I'm intrigued by how much Drew seems to be focused on taking guys out. I was always more in favour of just avoiding people rather than attempting conflict, especially in this first game where you couldn't just reliably fall back on first-person aiming to take guys out.

Additionally, as I mentioned last time, I would sit through you guys listening to every single optional Codec conversation in this entire series. I listen to them all if I replay the games, after all, and your added comments just bring bonus entertainment value.

But Dan should tell Drew to contact more people by Codec, especially Miller. Some of the best/dumbest content in the whole game comes from those codec conversations.

Man, this feature is great, and I'd just been playing through Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake :D

Watching Drew play MGS might yet kill ME.

Also, Dan specifically says that he has never murdered a man. Clearly he's trying to be misleading and has at some point in his past been guilty of manslaughter.

2 minutes and 8 seconds, not bad for your first death.

A(nother) weird thing with this game is that if you go prone and crawl through the minefield Snake just auto picks up any mines he crawls over. You don't even need the detector there.

For someone playing this game for the first game, I think the extremely rigid top-down perspective has to be what's the most difficult thing to get used to. Good episode btw!

I feel like we're missing a lot by not having a camera on Dan during this.

OMG this series

Personally, I think that all the voice acting is much better in Twin Snakes despite what Dan said in episode one. They are all the same voice actors (David Hayter insisted that they bring back all the old voice actors and even took a pay cut to make it happen) except for the Ninja who has a new voice actor. The voice acting in MGS1 proper is just stiff, lower quality soundwise, and very much sounds like the first performance that it is.

This feature is the best in years.

This game is still terrible in my opinion. These videos however, are enthralling. Painfully enthralling.

Love the series but I think it'd help, if possible (I know you guys are busy with day to day obligations), for you to play in larger chunks and then break them up. This game seems pretty brutal to play for 60-90 minutes once or twice a week. Too much going on that is easy to forget and you spend a portion of the video re-learning. Keep up the awesome content.

I'm glad Drew is having so much fun talking to Meryl. Since this video series started I've also started playing MGS for the first time. This gives me time to stay an hour ahead of Drew, but it also means he's showing me all the items I missed so I'll probably need to spend an hour going back to get them all.

This is a good birthday present. Though one wonders the intelligence of spending their 18th birthday watching a Metal Gear Solid let's play.

Is Drew using the digital pad still? I really think he should move to using the analog stick to control movement.

Drew is definitely getting the hang of the game now. The last episode stressed me out but he did a bang up job in this one. Even if the lasers kicked his ass a few times.

i'm going to take a guess and say this is going to take over 30 videos unless they extend the time to 2-3 hrs a video witch i'm all for.

I'm the opposite. Don't think the analog stick works quite as well as the d-pad, not in this game anyway.

Does anyone else think David Hayter's Solid Snake voice and Dan's normal voice are kind of similar? Like if Dan wanted to make himself sound more badass?

Amazing to go back and look at what they were able to squeeze out of that PS1 hardware. Pretty impressive.
