O God the writing is simultaneously so much better and worse than i remembered in this game.

edit - o wow drew got through the lasers on the first try, that took me like 20 goes back in the day.

I like that Drew's blaming himself for his failures and not the game. That was the most frustrating thing about about Bradely May Cry. Sure old games have problems but even the most poorly thought out and dated mechanics can be mastered, and if you always blame the game you'll never get any better.

I dont find it frustrating to watch someone fail if they're willing to learn and that's something you can never fault Drew for.

I also find old stealth games are the hardest to get to grips with. I tryed playing Tenchu not too long ago and did just as poorly.

One would think Drew would be the one guy in GB enjoying all the codec ranting about the different things; weapons, vehicles and such.

I love the chemestry here. Dan's passion and Drew's wilingness to accept new things makes for a very entertaining series. Keep on keepin on duders.

Too bad Dan and Drew never realized they could keep crawling back into that air duct to checkpoint the game, which is why it was starting there instead of the elevator. But watching Meryl take her mask off, and then her and snake giggling at each other over and over was worth it. And Drew did need to practice taking guys out, anyway. But that Vulcan Raven fight, that was genius. And it taught Drew the lesson that the game tends to give you hints in how to do certain things. Like having so many grenades near the tank to say "Hey, maybe try throwing grenades" and having the health bar read "Gunner" instead of "Tank".

This series has been really so fun so far. Loved the part where Dan asked Drew if he's ever killed a man.

Picking up Claymore mines is not a easter egg.

By far my favorite content on the site. Dan and Drew and a match made in heaven.

@drewbert you should try playing with the stick by activating "analogue mode" in the PS button menu. It controls better.

@danryckert you guys should have a camera filming you at all times so you could show viewers your faces at select times, such as when Dan starts laughing his ass off or when Drew is exhasperated. The Super Replays had that ! It was always fun seeing Tim's face when he was stuck in a difficult area of a bad game.

If you want an updated save, save after moving to a new room, fairly sure that'll work since it's just saving the checkpoint and not your present condition.

That being said, the tank hanger should normally take you 4 minutes to clear.

Having never played MGS (or MGS2, for that matter), I'm absolutely loving this.

MGS3 and MGS4 are some of my favorite games. This series is fantastic.

Drew turned it on in the last part there. The murder question and Drew's ask-back had me laughing for a while.

I know other stuff is happening, but moving the time allotment to 1 1/2 hr might be better. Have to allow for exploration, more codec, the 1990's save system, and those SNAAAAAKE! moments.

This is fun.

@danryckert I know this is dumb, but if you could grab Symphony of the Night and Suikoden off of PSN, and put those saves onto the same virtual memory card as MGS before you-know-what I would be so happy.

I'd just like to clarify one little thing, the C4 actually did affect the tank. You could see black smoke coming from its rear corner and its turning radius was increased. Claymores would have had the same effect. Basically you're damaging the tank tread and slowing it down.

You also don't need to avoid the mines' cone when crawling to collect them, as long as you're crawling it's fine.

It's great watching someone playing this for the first time.

I think my heart skipped a beat as Drew ran full-force into the airlock laser corridor. I can't believe Dan was able to hold that info in. Good work, Dan. Also good work, Drew. Medals all around.

This is such a good series and I hope it continues past MGS1. I feel like Drew would be really into MGS3 because A) Russia and B) survival.

@mooseymcman I think voices are so hard to "re get used to". I had just played MGS so many times before Twin Snakes that I could never prefer the TS voices. I'd be like coming home to my mom no longer having an accent. She'd be easier for others to understand but damn it would be weird and off putting. Some of the acting is better in TS but my mind just can't handle the tonal differences.

Also another vote for using the analog stick, it's really not bad in MGS. Might make approaching those soldiers from the back a little easier.

Now picture yourselves back in 1998 experiencing this for the first time knowing barely the two 80's Metal Gear titles beforehand. SO GOOD.
