I am beginning to think Dan doesn't understand anything until he has someone explain it to him.

When it comes to Metal Gear, for sure. I still don't understand myself how it's one of his favorite series yet doesn't understand or know the story for any of the games. Drew seems to have a better handle on the series then Dan.

That's our Dan though .

@stordoff:I feel like the game itself clearly shows that multiple people touched that story. Especially Wolf eventually making his own decisions felt very much like a typical Platinum storybeat, while the use of historic quotes in a new context is very much a Kojima thing. The excessive swearing and ranting that Armstrong did also seemed more of a Platinum thing. Even Volgin and Liquid, the most raging bosses in Metal Gear don't swear all that much. Finally, the whole 'bad guy wants peace in the end, but does it in a backwards way' is very Kojima .

The story in general also betrays that it's messy. It's clearly taking a backseat to the action and doesn't make all that much sense. Yeah i know some people feel the same thing about other Metal Gear games, but those at least try to connect the dots. Metal Gear Rising has story stuff happening between chapters that you just have to accept. Suddenly you're roaming the subways looking for a lab, without any prior mention of it. Luckily the overall game is good enough that it doesn't really matter, but to me it's pretty clear that Platinum wasn't handed a fully written story and only had to put the gameplay on top of it.

After hearing Jeff and a handful of forums talk about Armstrong for years, my expectations were met. What a fun villain! He is a worthy final boss in the Metal Gear saga.

So glad that they were able to do this, just a bit of a shame that they missed a lot of the codec stuff. Blade Wolf talking about his past or Sunny mentioning Otacon where two parts I really enjoyed.

Either way I'm also glad that they played on Easy. It seemed just lenient enough for them to breeze through it without much frustration. I remember some of the parts that I got stuck on, Monsoon and Armstrong specifically, that could've been hell for them.

Thanks again guys!

Man that last fight is a joke on easy. I probably should of just played the game on easy. I was so frustrated with that fight that it sort of put a bad taste in my mouth on the game.

man this game needs a giant text box at the beginning that says "YOU CAN PARRY EVERYTHING"

most people i've shown the game to dont even try to parry attacks that aren't from human shaped enemies.

Watching Drew's reactions to everything involving Armstrong was perfect. Great playthrough guys

@sonto420: I get that you can definitely parry a LOT more attacks than you might think you'd be able to, but aren't there still some specific un-parry-able attacks? I could have sworn there were a handful of things the bosses throw at you that can only be dodged.

I wouldn't listen to this soundtrack outside of the game, but it works pretty well in the game!

Thanks for a fun series, I hope Drew gets to at least co-star in some other long-running feature one day.

The only physical attacks you can't parry have that yellow glow to them, and most of those are grabs.

If its gold you cannot parry it, that is the rule. Things like the armstrong charge and AoE and those gorilla's and hammer dudes do one as well.

Tenderizing meat with a mallet softens the fibers, making the meat easier to chew and to digest.

I'm 59 minutes in and this is the greatest thing on this site. Thank you.

@ponyexpress: Though, technically you're supposed to puncture the meat. Since the mallet really only compresses the fiber, drying the meat out and making it tougher to chew. Also great for marinating and infusing flavors in meat. It can help turn a crappy piece of meat into a slightly better meat since it simulates higher quality slices that tend to melt in your mouth.

@drrocktapus: I don't think you know what fascism is, actually pretty sure you don't. It's a form of extreme and militant socialism. Popularised by Mussolini and adopted by Hitler. Now if you want to go down that route, then his opponent was a great example of that, spreading lies and using media, celebrities and minorities to shame a group of people through terroristic actions, but you know, people throw around buzzwords without actually knowing anything about the words they use. Problem when you rely solely on memes and celebrities for your knowledge. After all, he didn't blow 1.3 billion on an election.

This was definitely my favorite no-weapon, no-lock-on, constant-ninja-run gimmick playthrough of this game. :V

Seriously, that was fun to watch, and if people are at all interested in playing it, the combat system is really satisfying if you have the interest in learning it. It's a shame the game does a terrible job of teaching you.

It's kind of pointless to mention this seeing as they have this series wrapped and done, but a red light indicates a move that can be perfect parried, a gold light (Like on MG Excelsus's blades) indicates a move that can be blocked with chip damage, and a gold glow is a grapple/unblockable. It was also mildly frustrating not seeing Drew lock on to enemies, but to be completely honest, the game's biggest weakness is it poorly tutorializes most of its mechanics.

It was nice to see this game all the way through again though. I have been learning the New Game+ Hard speedrun of it, and not only are cutscenes skipped, but major sections are passed over with out-of-bounds tricks and the bosses have strategies the pretty much trivialize them, so it was rad seeing someone play it the way a normal person would.

it baffles me that people like you still follow this site when every member is clearly disgusted with what has happened in this country. Like drew is almost physically ill at the end of this video, even if he found some bits of armstrong entertaining, the character is repulsive and that people somehow relate to him is real gross.

I like video games.

Man, the Sundowner and Jetstream Sam fights are just not that interesting on easy. The others have spectacle to fall back on, but those two are purely about using what you've learned throughout the game. On easy they just become mash fests and not much else.

"Let's Make America Great Again" was Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign slogan. Kojimo doesn't exactly have any love for American foreign policy in the 80's, so that's where the Senators lines are coming from.

@rccrf: Italian fascists would place themselves on the right of the political spectrum: "We are free to believe that this is the century of authority, a century tending to the 'right,' a fascist century."

You can find this quote in Mussolini & Giovanni Gentile's book The Doctrine of Fascism.

I'm happy that Drew finally played it to cap off Dan's reign of terror on the best coast. The one downside and I saw this as someone that finished it on normal is that the boss battles don't have the same level of terror on easy. When Armstrong is recharging and turns green it's a necessity to slice his back. Easy mode doesn't even make that a factor. Other than that it was great to see Drew experience Armstrong's speech (what a reaction!).
