I don't think he's that bad, but I like it as a running joke.

If I was tech savvy, I'd make a super cut of someone playing Mario Bros, and insert a clip of Dan being confused every time Toad shows up instead of the princess.

I saw this part first because it came up first for me, watched 01-02 also and gonna watch 03-05 tommorow.

Since the final boss is the best part I think quite a few people are interested in watching the last parts first here. Drews reactions made it worth even for those not going through them chronologically.

Dan and Drew, It is called a minigun because it is a smaller version of the Vulcan.

There's two good lines in there that'll make your head spin.
One because it's Metal Gear as fuck and the other because... fuck.

I know in the end it didn't matter in the least since it didn't hamper him and it's impressive that Platinum made the game(or at least easy mode) in such a way that you could ignore it. But it's a little bit crazy how little Drew actually learned how to play this game.

Never learned the parry system and when to recognize it, never learned the arm obtaining thing, didn't really do any of the moves he ended up buying with BP, and I don't really get the feeling he learned when and why you could Zandantsu an enemy.

Just non-stop ninja running, slide kicking, and blade mode.

Honestly i skipped to the bosses because killing generic trash enemies are not why i play or watch this game. It is all about the insane set pieces and bosses.

He doesn't have a very developed self-effort to understand stuff is all, he just sort of asks people things and hopefully they give him the right answer in a way he can understand.

Couple things about Armstrong

-He is a monster at higher difficulties, not only you most likely have no nanopaste unless you played before and knew this bastard was coming up but higher difficulties drain your blade mode a lot faster. This means you have really little time to do all the cuts required for this fight.

- At very hard and the final difficulty this dude's first 2 stages are insanely hard. Even if you parry him like you should lose hp till you drop till 0.1 and he will AoE a lot. The best way to dodge this is actually learn to use your slash dodge which makes you invurnable.

- To stop his healing you need to go behind him and use blade mode, then you can target the location where the healing comes form and stagger him, calling your peeps in codec actually hints at that.

- If you haven't until now you WILL parry because anything else will cut your life really fast.

Hey I just wanted to say, this game's a hell of a lot more fun when you learn to play it for real and don't go through on easy automatic. Like, you're honestly doing the game a major disservice playing it this way.

This was a satisfying finale to the Metal Gear Scanlon saga. After Metal Gear Scanlon V, I was concerned that Giant Bomb's greatest series would be going out with a whimper - I think it's fair to say now that it went out with a hell of a bang.

Greatest final boss in video game history? Who says video games can't say things about society?

Thanks for one last Metal Gear Scanlon. Been a heck of a ride! Glad you guys decided to do Rising, and that Dan came around on it.

Thought I'd like to mention that "Make America Great Again" is a quote from Ronald Reagan, not just some disastrous coincidence. Overall, glad I got Premium to binge watch Scanvengeance, with how great this game is. Thanks for one last MG ride!

As a Libertarian I find Armstrong to be the true hero of this game, if it wasn't for the whole kidnapped child soldiers brain thing i'd be pretty much 100% in agreement with him.

Dang, I was kind of hoping they'd do the Bladewolf DLC, the boss in that one is weirdly great and unlike any of the other bosses in the game. Ah well.

Damn, watched all of it, what a ride. Next time I try to watch the whole of MGScanlon to try not to skip anything. Rising is certainly a good way to close the 2.5 year odyssey of Dan and Drew.

@dinosaurcanada: Some of the best video games ever made cut on a political topic but Kojimas games are sort of willing to tackle this stuff more directly and a little bit more "realistically" though.

While "make America great again" is a Trump slogan, the similarities between Trump and the senator end just about there, politically. The senator is more of a radical Libertarian, and Trump is a fascist.

Drain the swamp Armstrong

Every time Dan and Drew start discussing ripping and the music, I can almost hear Dave chiming in with "Featuring the music of Blue Öyster Cult!".

Edit: Metal Gear Excelsus reminds me of Shadow Yosuke, especially as they both shout "How long can you survive this?"

I don't think i've seen Drew so mindblown before, that was awesome.

I remember spending a hefty amount of time on Armstrong on hard, it was a really tough fight. Totally forgot all the anime-bullshit he said during it. Interesting how it ties to the real world.

This is my second favorite Metal Gear game. The first is either 3 or V, depending on what day you ask me. But Rising is always second, because I simply cannot imagine placing more than one game above this.

The music, the story being much more self-aware action movie than self-serious action movie, the likable original characters and restraint shown towards cameos and references, the total insanity of the boss fights, and just the way it plays... it's damn near perfect at what it's trying to do.

And it's also the most prophetic Metal Gear game this side of 2, so like.

We live in interesting times.

After watching all of this all I could l think of was, "If I did this, would it mean anything to you?"

Dan and Drew keep saying this game isn't canonical...... but the script was worked on and finished by Kojima and Kojima Productions and handed off to Platinum who developed the game around it. I am pretty sure it is considered canon. In my head everything Raiden does post MGS2 is exactly like this game and we just don't see it, they should make a video where Raiden and Snake compare notes about their goings on and are just massively confused at the differences in tone.
