Seems like there's a decent amount of interesting stuff going on here...but it's wrapped in a bad art style and interface.

Exactly. The developer, Arcen Games, really needs to hire even one more artist. I'm not joking - literally just hire one dedicated artist. Even one would make a world of difference, because right now I get the impression they have zero artists, and it's all programmers and game designers doing the art and animation.

I like the design ideas, but they need to hire some art/animation/UI help and throw this back in the oven for a bit. Looks like a game made with placeholder assets. Music is kinda funky though.

Watching this gives me restless leg syndrome... o.O

This game looks crazy, and the graphics are pretty terrible. Real placeholder looking.

I don't know if you meant for that to be an example of a worse game than this....but that Revelations game looks ten times more polished than this.

Visually, this game comes out of the least appealing parts of gaming's past, the first CD games. Other than that, this game just looks really odd.

This game has such interesting ideas. Pity it's a bit of a jumbled-up mess.

And where the hell did Brad get Dark Souls from when describing this? I love me some DS, and this is not like it in any way, except maybe extremely broad, vague ones like "they're both games". The game doesn't even really have permadeath. Yeah, you're dude dies, but you respawn as another and keep all your stuff, so... not so much permadeath.

Agreed. They seem to be trying to hide shitty textures by applying gaussian blur filters to everything. Plus the moving fog of war thing is nauseating

This game seemed weird so I bought it right after watching this.

I know people probably worked hard on this and some people may like it, but this game is one of the worst looking games I've seen in recent history. And whoever allowed that dumbass one foot animation and then put it for everything needs to be punched in the face.

Yeah, I'm quite a big fan of pixel art - I think it's kind of timeless when done well. This just looks old and bad.

This game looks terrible, and man...Brad is the worst when he's trying to explain things. He seems to have the memory of a goldfish, and all his references are games that came out in the past 3 months or so. "Minecraft and Dark Souls"? C'mon man, can't you be more mindful of THREE DECADES OF GAMES before saying things so dumb? Besides that early part, this was a fun Quick Look for a bad game...even though Brad kept learning things on the spot. IGN did a better job of explaining it in their opening paragraph - it's just a platformer with procedurally generated worlds.

You guys should Quick Look Monster World IV, since it came out on the Wii Virtual Console this previous week and it's the first time it's been translated into English since it came out for the Genesis in 1994. And, of course, it's a FANTASTIC platformer with RPG elements. Vinny mentioned that this game briefly reminded him of Zelda 2 and Castlevania 2; Monster Quest IV is that type of game, except done much, MUCH better.

Calling it a rogue-like is a misnomer from what I've read. Yes, your character will die permanently but they will be replaced by a charactwer with another name who has all your same skills and maybe your same gear so it's effectively a reload in most ways.

Wow, really? I haven't played either so I'm only going of of videos I've seen. Maybe I just have a bias against 2D vs first person polygonal games :P

@Slab64: It's horrible. It's an awful L4D2 mod with horrible, confusing and ugly level design, incredibly badly made character models with awful voice acting, a story that makes no sense and is impossible to follow, a single weapon that looks and sounds horrible and is incredibly uninteresting to use, awful bugs, one of which invite every single person on your friends list into your game when you star the game and is made by a team that's made up mostly of one family, most of which are people who don't play or like video games.

@simkas: WELP. I wasn't planning on buying it anyway, but with Steam sales the way they are, you never know...thanks for the mini-review.

@delorean99947: Agreed. I honestly thought this looked really neat and games like this really don't interest me that often. Picking at the artwork for a low budget game is just elitism to me. Especially considering it is better then what a lot of people can probably draw.

Sort of reminds me of what the early bastion builds looked like before Supergiant brought on Jen Zee. Or you know, any other game without an artist.

Huh, I'm kinda surprised how much people seem to be hating on the visuals. I think it has a sort of weird charm to it. Seems to fit well with how insane and disjointed this game seems. It's certainly a unique look, which is more than can be said for most games that come out these days.

Maybe I just have a thing for games that go all out with their craziness.

At least Minecraft's visuals were done were done for a reason. This game just looks like it has a terrible artist.
