Hey @brad just so you know, blocking is WAY more effective than dodging when it comes to the bosses. They're too fast to be able to effectively dodge, turn around, and then strike.

Holy crap this game is amazing, this quick look sells it short I assure you. It's absolutely a fighting game, skills transfer.

My only complaint is that it was a bit too easy, paused the quick look to play it, got to and defeated the final boss on my second attempt (at level 9). I'll keep playing it but I just expected a bit more of a challenge. Other than that, I recommend it!

This looks really cool, can't wait to give it a shot!

That's a pretty ass game

According to his Twitter, he played a few hours of this game when he came home yesterday. So not complete disinterest!

They didn't even get into the crazy mythology written out in the game's background. Women who turn into birds by regurgitating their organs into a bowl, warlocks feeding babies flesh to turn them into cavern guardians, Ghost Monks that are amalgamations of all the people who died in the Abyss, etc.

Chilean mythology is puppied up, man.

Is it a "Rogue Legacy-like"?.. hmmm..

Small detail I'm loving: having the key a physics object attached the characters. So damn cool!

Lost my shit as soon as I heard her. She seems to get around a bunch, voicing the female Crusader from Diablo III as well.

On the steam forums for this game the devs have started a competition for best training room youtube videos. People are post some pretty insane stuff. Apparently the firefighter character that appears when Ghost Monk dies is a beast.

Honestly I'd put it more to him having an off day. I feel generally if he doesn't like a game he will straight up say so.

I will do this the same I did The Fall, not know anything about it beyond an idea of its quality and just start playing it. ACE Team can't go wrong, even when they don't go right.

Wow, Jeff may have been joking with the Smash Bros. bubble-shield reference, but that controls guide made it pretty clear that, yo, this game plays like those games.

Which is great, because upon hearing this was built like a fighting game, I was almost unsold. Turns out, it's one of the two fighting games I am reliably functional at!

Also: Ghost Monk.

This is basically the Subspace Emissary mode in Super Smash Bros Brawl turned into a Rogue-like-like-like. This looks awesome.

Vanillaware really needs to make a game like this or Spelunky.

Looks like v1.01 was released today, which allows you to toggle friendly fire on or off.

This was a pretty low energy Quick Look, but after seeing this I picked it up anyway. So far so good!

@eternalgamer2: Jeff checked out a long time ago. I give him credit for being able to stick around as long as he has but his enthusiasm for his job has definitely waned in the past few years. You can't really blame him though, when he made his career games were breaking new ground all the time. Nowadays, aside from the indie scene, companies are rehashing old ideas in effort to milk every last dime from the public. The games have become more and more formulaic as time goes on and it is probably as obvious to Jeff as it is to the other old time games who grew up in that time.

I really like the backgrounds. Great depth and lots of things going on. Looks really nice. Might pick this up at some point.

Odd random question to pose here, but I was thinking of Rogue-like games and how much that term should probably change to be more understandable to someone just getting into games, then got thinking about basic mechanics, and anyway...

Is there a Rogue-like where you have the *possibility* to reclaim your old gear or levels or at least levelling potential by finding your "bloodstain" (the Dark Souls mechanic)? It would have to be fundamentally different somehow based on the randomness of levels. I have multiple thoughts on how to tackle that part, but i'm not creating a design doc here in the comments :P

I should also say that this game looks awesome. Jeff might have hit the nail on the head in comparing some of the movement and visual cues to Smash Bros, and I'm not sure how I feel about that (not that I dislike Smash Bros, but what has been seen cannot be unseen).

Played a couple of hours of this with my friend, really liked it and quite tough.

It's funny, this works almost the opposite of the Souls games, where you keep your equipment but lose your gold/xp (souls)

So, I'm not here trying to say I'm amazing at video games but I came one hit away from beating the Warlock on my second run through and should of had him beat. I'm not sure if I got lucky with a great run or if the game isn't all that hard.

I'd bet it was the prior. Do you recall seeing how many levels were bright pink EASY on your way down? Luck is a major factor in how difficult these games can be. Also it's not the type of game you're supposed to stop playing once you beat the boss once.
