@BBAlpert:

I was and I did. But the idea for Mecha Tengu originally came from the Japanese Anime Macross.

Wow, that's painful watching Jeff pick up units and not issue them orders. This was designed for controllers (IGN broke the news of this game MONTHS ago, for PSN and XBLA. I have no idea why it ended up as a Google exclusive, but I know you can still play it with 360 controllers at least), and you're supposed to use the dpad to issue orders while you grab units. It's painful watching him just drop tanks and leave them be.

Oh and also, i may be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain there was a multiplayer mode in Pandemic's Star Wars Clone Wars game for Gamecube/PS2/Xbox that resembled this/Herzog Zwei. That game was real underrated. I'm almost positive there was a multiplayer mode where you controlled one unit, took over bases like this and purchased units from captured bases.

EDIT: Yup, it was called "Conquest Mode" in Clone Wars. And it was awesome and very Herzog Zwei-esque. A blend of RTS and Vehicle Action...sort of like Activision's old PC Battlezone game too.

I tried out the game myself yesterday and the problem is that the in game tutorial does not teach you about those extra commands at all. I basically had to experiment to find out what some of them do by myself straight up during ongoing matches. This is not well thought out, making a player try to figure out the basic control scheme during an active match.
Sure I pretty much quickly figured out that I can press attack to drop units and make them move out forward and attacks everything on the way to the enemy base. But haven't had the chance to experiment with others.

The game is in a dire need of a manual or actual proper tutorials.
What's the difference between setting down a turret on a slot next to the base or just on the ground?
What is mechs energy bar do? (believe me with bases all over the place and it refilling constantly it was a while before i noticed it was doing anything i had to actively starve my airmech of fuel to experiment)
What does linking do? patrolling?
How does airmech carry capacity work exactly?
What are the units attack/repair ranges?
The list goes on.
I'm not saying it's impossible to learn all this shit on your own, but it's not surfaced well at all.

This is currently the games greatest barrier to entry.
Not any sort of fee.
So I was really not surprised at all, that Jeff was not issuing commands to units he dropped.
(some sort of basic story mode would have gone a long way to teaching people the ropes by slowly doling out new units before dumping them into skirmish or online matches. That's what part of the reason for single player campaigns in RTS games, like SC, C&C etc, to allow players new to the game to acclimatize)

It was designed for controllers but the default browser controls are M&K and boy are they not properly done at all.
The mouse buttons in the key bindings are called left and right triggers! the unit orders are bound to TYGH  >.<
Visually it is not suited to larger resolutions and screens at all, making it look really dated and not as crtisp as even in the QL.
This game is definitely in alpha and needs to see a lot more work done on it before being properly released.
It's a cool concept, but yeah I expect developers to at least approach something resembling a finished product before starting to accept money from people.

Frontline Assembly did the music? HA HA HA. The laughter is to cover the shame of my teenage music tastes.

I know it is a different game, but the artwork reminded me a bit ofadvance wars, is there another one of those in the works?

This game is fun for about an hour. Then you realize that there's unfortunately no one in the matchmaking system.

"Platform-agnostic" that's an awesome phrase! I'll use it in a sentence:

Most indie games tend to be platform-agnostic.
