Quick Look: ArmA III

From what I can gather the police are supposed to restrain and arrest or ticket people they find with turtles or drugs on them. So honestly, Drew was RPing pretty well as a dick police officer.

Two Arma 3 QLs, and we now have Drew the Dirty Cop and Vinny the War Criminal. I smell a procedural TV drama!

Are video games art? 1:04:30 and on definitively answers that question.

Another highlight is 1:09:35 when Drew catches sight of his "perp" and pursues, briefly glimpsing a lewd act in one of the many deserted shops of this sleepy coastal resort town, just as someone on voice chat declares "giantbomb is at it again."

Man i have to download that mission with ACDC later. some real cool missions being made for arma 3 at the moment. Love this game.

The drug deal between Jeff and Vinny + the Altis Life shenanigans make this an amazing QL.

It's not really like Rainbow Six. Maybe if you mixed Rainbow Six with Battlefield and sprinkled a ton of simulation on top of that, that would maybe be Arma.

Best QL in a long time. Anyone who doesn't know what was going on towards the end there should look up videos of ArmA II City Life. Some great emergent gameplay type stuff happens in that mod, even if it is ridiculous looking and buggy.

I can't tell if I liked their drug deal exchange or the entirety of what they did on that RP server more.

Drew totally re-enacted that part of The Shining with the dog-man.

Game does look good & the mods (if anything like the ones shown in the quick look like the cop thing at the end) looks crazy on the amount of stuff you can do in this. Seems pretty good.

Poor andyandrita, I feel kind of bad for him. He was just trying to go about his business when Dirty Cop Drew found him and threw him in the ocean.

So actual question as I sit staring at it on steam: once you get a feel for the game and understand its basic concepts, is it the sort of thing you could come back to and play occasionally, or is it one of those games that requires you to play it regularly to maintain a base skill level to have fun (this coming from dedicating way too many hours to competitive CS in my youth).

It seems like it'd be the former, since it seems more about the tactical aspect than any twitch skill, but I'm curious whether I'm right about that. If so I may give it a shot; I've always wanted to with the series and this'un seems more...attractive? I dunno, I love the sound design and it looks really nice, especially in comparison to the last iteration

Theres really no skill level for the game since its more of a sim than anything else. You can play it every once in a while, or you can get real deep and play it regularly and it really wont make that much of a difference. If you do have the game and want to try it out with people who are dont really go too down the rabbit hole that is Arma, you can join the gaming hub and play with them/us. We have a mumble that we use for the game, and other things, and Ive found that playing with people is really where the fun in this game is.

Hrm, interesting. No yeah I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy it and give it a shot. I don't really mind the initial outlay to learn something super dense, and I have a good enough love of military tactics that it fascinates me.

It's just down to gathering up enough to buy it, but once I do I most definitely'll try to join up at some point. I think I'm actually already in the PCGH (I see ARMA 2 gamenights pop up on the regular, assuming that's related?). So yeah, once I gather the money and time, I most definitely will. Also, thanks for being so damn inviting. Makes the whole idea way more appealing.
