Quick Look: Borderlands (PC)

I wish it had full Steam integration in the Steam version, and the UI stuff is a bit disheartening. At least it's mod friendly right?

Damn. On the PS3 you pretty much can't use 4 players on some of the areas. The framerate gets ridiculous. 
They should really do a quick look of that. Like a really quick look.

Game Spy? I never trusted those people. I still might give the game a try, but only the single player.

Gamespy?  Really?!  Now I'm even happier that I picked this up on the 360.

We got the PC version running at work today.  Frame rate is great.  As for the online, we didn't have any problems running it at work, and we're running a pretty heavy network in there.  The GameSpy thing really shocked me and our PC tech, as we thought that was a dead thing nowadays!  lol 
 
I'm curious how the back half of the game plays and whether it's as goddamn glitchy and buggy as the console versions.  If those glitches and bugs aren't there, then I'll stick with the PC version once I've hit 50 on my main for 360. 
 
I will say...this certainly felt like a port through and through.  The menus did feel very awkward, and I know this is going to sound REALLY weird...but I prefer it at the lower frame rate.  It felt like it had weight to it, which is something that many shooters lack.  The high end frame rate on the PC version made it feel very floaty, like Left 4 Dead.  Maybe it's because I've gotten used to seeing the low frame rate at this point.  Also, the colors didn't seem NEARLY as vibrant...and a big WTF to the options menus.  I mean, seriously?  No option for toggling my iron sights/scope?  No option for using standard driving controls?  No option for NOT making E reload my goddamn gun all the fucking time when I'm picking stuff up? 
 
The PC version is cool and all, but like I said...the only thing that will get me to keep playing it is if there are a good handful of folks at work to group up with...as well as the back half of the game not being glitchy as all Hell.

Waypoints on the map, YES. Also put some names on those transition stars. Near the end the world gets both large and intricate, and if you like moving instead of transporting it's a bitch to navigate to anywhere but your selected mission.

Its true, gamespy is a bit antiquated, but the game doesn't suffer from it in my opinion.  Mulitplayer runs great, and i have had no problems so far.  The game does require mush to be good looking either.  I have a core 2 Q6600, with 4 gigs of ram, and a simple 9500GT.  Game looks great on a pretty high rez, and almost everything turned way up.

Looks like a decent PC port.

This game doesn't have "full gamepad support". It only supports ONE FREAKING GAMEPAD. the giantbomb staff are IDIOTS.

I sure hope Borderlands 2 has a PC version built from the ground up. There is so much shit that either just can't be done with the PC version that every other decent PC game has been doing for ages. Mosty UI stuff, but they really need to have better textures and stuff, the game barely looks different without the resolution, especially when to get AA you have to turn off post processing.
