Quick Look: Crimson Dragon

ZZZ, that is my constructive feedback.

Ugh, this microtransaction crap is disgusting. Credits to play levels? Random item packs you buy with real money? Massive amounts of practically required grinding if you don't wanna pay up?

Game looks like crap too. All in all watching this just makes me want to fire up one of the real Panzer Dragoon games, or Starfox 64 or Sin and Punishment 2...

Uh, what about Panzer Dragoon? Not only was that a launch game for the Saturn, it was the only one people actually gave a shit about.

This microtransaction shit in a game you have already paid for needs to stop.

I guess I'm too young, but I never played any of the Panzer Dragoon games, so I don't know what I expected.

Regardless of your opinion of Patrick, this game isn't giving people much to love.

Good lord I hate this trend of microtransactions in console games. I get it put them in your free/99 cent ios games, that's fine but not in console games. My opinion is pretty outdated I suppose, I don't like DLC and add on content, I don't like microtransactions. You should pay your $60 dollars (or whatever) and EVERYTHING should come in the box (or digital.. box?). Maybe I'm just crusty.

Sooo, I'm kinda new to this site, at least compared to how long it has been around, and I don't want to make anymore of a thing out of this than it already is but... can someone explain the Patrick hate to me? I first found this site late 2012 so Patrick has just always been one of the duders to me, maybe it's one of those "I hate change" things?

Seems weird that on a site where personality and unique perspective are the main selling points one subset of users would hate on one specific member because he has his own opinions.

I mean dislike is one thing, but hate? Where is that rage coming from? Patrick seems to take his job seriously and there were times where he produced a large part of the content on the site, content which otherwise probably wouldn't have happened.

Yeah sorry, wasn't talking about you specifically, feedback is a good thing obviously. I just end up watching a lot of the GB stuff on youtube and it struck me as a little weird that every QL Patrick is remotely involved in ends up with a big number of downvotes and curiously aggressiv comments.

I'll never understand this. No one is forcing you to pay real money. You're always going to be grinding for levels, skills, loot, etc. anyways. I honestly believe people are being way too hard on this game. It looks fine, and seems to be a ton of fun. Man gamers these days...

Have no nostalgia for the Panzer Dragoon series, played Orta and didn't care for it and people who have nostalgia for those games will never have a new game that will magically revive the series.

No one is forcing you, sure. But it's undeniable that this game is specifically designed to get you to spend more money just to be able to play it. As someone who loves video games, that idea is absolutely disgusting.

And it's even grosser when others defend it.

Don't worry a communication professional/Journalist know how to handle it, the same way he knows constantly interrupting people is probably rude.

When designers don't know to make their projectiles have impactful sound effects, you know they're fucking clueless.

I don't see a problem with options. If there were ads flying all over the place, or if it was real in your face about it sure. It's just off to the side somewhere.

And I've always known this game was grind heavy. That's part of the allure to me. Replaying levels, getting exp for dragons, etc. Obviously this won't be for everyone, but I see a lot of replayability for a $20. Different perspectives I guess. I just don't get up in arms about things like most do.

Oh btw @patrickklepek you can get EXP for your other dragons if other players use them as wingmen I believe.

I think Vinny put it best on the podcast this week. I am remarkably uninterested in everything that is going on here. The game seems like a soulless husk.

I want to be intrigued by anything in this game but I'm finding it alarmingly challenging to even pay attention to the Quick Look.

Pretty sad that it looks worse than last gen.

It seems to me that Patrick is completely over-convoluting the whole unlock system in the game, and mostly just from what he's "heard". Also, as far as I noticed there was nothing in the game that could only be purchased with real money, so it's just a basic booster system (which we see in a ton of games these days).

The whole thing just seems to be what you'd expect from a small arcade game, replaying levels over and over and trying to beat challenges to unlock more stuff.

All i could think of is a GIANT Turkey leg.... for the last 1/3 of the video......can you even get those outside of Renaissance Fairs and Disney Hollywood Studios?

This is no Panzer Dragoon but this is also not a game. A game shouldn't be forcing you to pay to make the game better when you already paid for the full game.

Yes that the thing with this game is that it soulless. No impact with the shooting mechanics, no interesting story or world, no substance.

Then it needs to pick a lane and stay in it. That's my problem with micro transactions, really (can't speak for the guy you're quoting). There's a grey area where shit gets ugly. This game isn't even as bad an offender as we've already seen last generation. Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and Dead Space 3 had some gross micro transactions for being 60 dollar games.

With the free to play model, the barrier to entry (financially speaking) is nonexistent. The developer/publisher makes their money from people who either get hooked or invested (via enjoyment) into the game. There's a tradeoff happening with that model, and it makes a lot of sense. Why buy the whole thing when I can get it piecemeal (assuming that's what I want). Here, and with other worse examples, the publisher is having it's cake and eating it too. It's just comes off as being greedy.

We've essentially blurred the lines between buying in with an entry price to get all of the content, and buying a model with no ceiling. They've created a Frankenstein monster of payment models, and I'm not too jazzed about it. That doesn't mean it's time to whip out the torch and pitchfork. I'll just keep continuing to not support such models (and infrequently sharing my opinion about it on the interwebz).

Less Pokemon, more Bahamut Lagoon.

This game looks awful and boring.The actual levels themselves, amount of enemies, etc. don't seem challenging or engaging. I was hoping to see any sort of big crazy boss a la Panzer Dragoon Orta (like a giant battleship or evil statue with lasers!), but nothing of the sort, sadly.

And all these convoluted currencies and barriers to entry requiring you to grind through old levels only seem to exacerbate the problem.

$20 "Free" to play garbage. Rejoice! The next generation of microtransactions is here!

"How to train your player". Sounds like something whoever monetized this would have picked up to read...

what really sucks is that these powerups and other good stuff would have been rewards for playing the game well once upon a time. Now pay money or grind easy levels until you get bored and quit.

This particular game also looks like SWAMP ASS and I can't imagine anyone willingly pay $20 for it.

That is exactly how I feel after watching this...I have been looking forward to this game for such a long time and seeing this just makes me incredibly sad. I hope this is not the last Panzer Dragoon game we ever get....

Wow, what a bummer, I almost want to nerd cry. I am a huge, huge fan of panzer dragoon and when i heard noise samples from the original game I got giddy for a bit. But now quick turning, useless rpg garbage and micro-transactions for a single player game you paid 20 bucks for? God dammit microsoft... god fucking damnit.

That free-to-play junk would be understandable if the game was, you know, free. Though in all fairness, I'd be just as uninterested either way. There are plenty of games out there not designed to trick me into buying virtual money.

Also, "this new marketplace of ideas of how we exchange currency"? Huh?
