I will never find something as innocuous as skimpy clothing and sexualization "gross".

If there was a gay (or female-aimed) fighter using the same ideas using men I'd be interested to see how many users here would find that "gross". It's also a Japanese game clearly made with Japanese culture in mind. There's TONS of games like this (speaking of the DLC model) that come out all the time in Japan.

I would never download any of this DLC but I will fight for its right to exist any day. I don't find sexualizing any gender scary, and I don't find it outright exploitative.

If they could do this for DOA5:LR that would be great. Not saying they should buy the stuff like they did the last time, but an explanation about what the F is goin on here. Holy guacamole sauce.

That Alpha-152 clone kept reminding me of Alma from the FEAR franchise. I suppose if an already unstable psychic killing machine was tortured with a seemingly endless stream of anime videos, softcore porn, and cheesy 70s/80s Kung Fu movies, this would be the end result.

I know very little about DOA outside having watched the fighting, the presentation, and QL's of DOA paradise Island.. But I get this much; The fighting is good, well put together and balance in the main. It is a primo fighting game. Also, it is supposed to have a soft pandering side. I think the developer is very up-front on this. The physics in DOA Paradise Island and Volleyball, either an outright joke or a self aware slap on the shoulder of the player. Team Ninja would not do the boobs any other way. It is meant to be as ridiculous as it is.

It's up to the player what or what mix he (mostly) wants to get out of DOA. Myself, I do not do fighting games. But I always have a few favorite ladies I like to marvel at for about 5 seconds.

I love a game that knows exactly who it's trying to appeal to and is still a solid fighting game on top of it. Don't like it? Don't play it.

I downloaded core fighters and looking through the European DLC page I can't even find an option to buy "retail" game. I can only find piecemeal content. Also everything apart from versus says its "installing" including the store, which, I'm not sure if thats how it's supposed to work?

Unfortunately, this game is still so broken on Xbox One. I really want to love it, though. But, let's face it: this game and its DLC plan is more or less proof that the gaming industry is more or less dead.

I have to say that Jeff and Jason are truly the perfect pair for these fighting game QLs.

Also, yes, the DLC is stupid, but honestly who cares? Almost no one will be dumb enough to buy all that shit anyway.

I dunno, for some reason the DLC isn't bothering me. I guess it's because it's all cosmetic shit? I mean, yeah there's a lot of it, but I generally play games because I like the gameplay, and how my character looks really doesn't affect that. I guess fans of the series might be pissed that cosmetic options have to be bought, but for me, if I was playing DOA, I really couldn't care less. This isn't like Forza where actual cars were put up as DLC.

Though I will say that if I was into cosmetic stuff, those prices do seem pretty damn high.

Fame Douglas, never forget!

Also it's still crazy that a game like Virtua Fighter would collude with Dead or Alive in anyway possible. They seem like they're on such opposite ends of the spectrum. Although I would be pretty excited if they put Lei Fei in there.

"This is ridiculous! What the fuck? No! Don't do that!!! WHY?!

...

Should I by the season pass?"

-Jeff Gerstmann

Anywho.... Yes, please give me cosmetic DLC. Give me ALL cosmetic DLC. I'll take all of that over DLC that actually contains or changes the gameplay. Cosmetic is about as a totally optional purchases as you can get.

As a side note, how long till we have a fighting game that sells like health or damage boosts for their online play. Think MKX will have it? I think that would fit REEEEEEEEALLLLY well in their faction war stuff. And WB is no stranger to F2P pricing structures! That would be enjoyable to watch. The backlash would be incredible

I only play two characters and I bought a handful of costumes for each. That was perfectly reasonable for me.

And for people who don't want to spend any money on DLC, there are actual unlockable costumes. Which is cool considering how few games do unlockable content like that.

I really could give two shits about the costumes. There's a good chunk you can unlock in the full game, and that's good enough for me. The mechanics are solid, the women are sexy, and the men are hunks. Pure mac 'n cheesy fantasy. Everything else is just fluff, and they can charge as much as they want for it.

However, I would kill a bus full of nuns with a butter knife if Team Ninja added the ability to Flair Flop during a match.

Considering Jeff doesn't care about cosmetic stuff in video games, he sure is getting mad about it.

I won't say that store layout is good, it is quite confusing, but you can see what you have and don't have access to if you look at your characters costumes.

Also, and this is unlikely to change, i know everyone has their favorite fighting games but there's a tendency for all the staff on GB to shit on games that arn't their favorites "(Sarah) she's been in other games, better games". What was that about Jeff? To each their own.

Edit: I can't stand to watch this any more, the level of unwarranted hate is a shame.

Yeah, I really like this DOA game (I didn't play much of the series since 2) but the way they handle DLC and costumes is kinda disgusting.

And you're both really bad at it. This entry isn't actually as mash-friendly as DOA used to be, I can beat my scrubby friends pretty reliably with characters I know. I'm not particularly good at fighting games either.

Is it weird that I've actually grown like it when games have cosmetic DLC even though I have no interest in buying it? Sure, it's slightly gross and exploitative to sell skins that used to just be unlockable bonuses. But since I don't give a shit about the cosmetics, it just means that the developer is getting extra money from other people who are willing to toss their money at the DLC with no cost or impact on me.

Compare that to gameplay-relevant DLC where it's likely the dev is holding actual parts of the game back or selling boosts in a way that compromises the game design. If devs needs DLC to survive and keep teams stable, then I'm happy to see them do so by selling weapon skins or creepy costumes.

DoA's fast become my favorite fighting game series. For years I assumed it was all T&A and fanservice slapped on top on something that wanted to be Tekken, but after Itagaki left and they put out DoA: Dimensions on the 3DS, which I picked up at launch on a whim, I was blow away!

Itagaki is a cool dude, but prior to Dimensions, there was this whole snobbish attitude around the series, like, "fuck you figure out our game yourself" that kinda left with him. The story/tutorial mode in it was excellent at explaining how the counter system worked, why it worked and when it worked.

Other fighting games like Marvel vs. Capcom and Tekken are all about execution... Like, if you capture an enemy in your combo, there's hardly ever any way for them to get out, unless the combostring is finished or dropped.

With the countering system, there's always a way out and it becomes a lot more about the strategy and mind-games that Jeff was thrilled about in Divekick when that game came out.

The system also prevents impossible matchups against opponents who can just spam the same cheap moves over and over again and it's why DoA can so easily have a tag mode in it, that games like Tekken have to be completely rebuild around from the ground up in order to be fair.

Also, that Power Move can be used when your health is below 50%
