Quick Look: Dead Rising 3

After watching this whole thing, I kind of wish someone besides Brad was doing the review.

Of all the launch line-up titles, this seems like the most solid; like something I would actually want to play.

Still no desire to nab an XB One, but this looks great for a launch game.

Brad's ADD was really bad in this quick look. Half the time I couldn't understand what he was talking about because he kept interrupting himself.

Something about the way the games in this series show just feels deceptive, for some reason. It always looks silly and cool, but when it comes to actually trying to play and accomplish anything it's always been an incredibly frustrating experience for me.

Mowing down zombies looks fun and silly, but I want to do more than that for just 8-12 hours. Having to travel through the sheer number of zombies in this game looks incredibly fun right up until the point I actually have to do it myself in an actual objective.

But what if that system ends up having a majority of games you would want to play? Technical prowess aside, I'm getting a PS4 next week and honestly there is nothing I want to play on it and now I'm scared that it will brick out of the box - but the XBO isn't launching in my region and I want a nextgen console so what are you gonna do.

Gonna wait for a price cut on the Xbone. Maybe by then this game will be on GwG. Either that or it will be cheap.

@alucitary: Yeah, definitely felt that. He explained things in such a roundabout way too...At least Vinny and Brad were trying to keep Brad on track.

PC has made me wary of locking myself in an ecosystem (although I do trust Valve more than Microsoft). Also I'm never paying $500 for that system and I'm just about done with paying a fee to play multiplayer, but like I've said before, having a strong PC makes it extremely easy for me to ignore what consoles offer.

So how can it be that the framerate is only bad in the one section (promise guys) when earlier Brad said that he had not played the whole game.

Is this a joke?

This looks great. Loved the other two and even though there's some changes, I'm looking forward to playing it!

@colourful_hippie: PC's have a slew of their own problems, many of which personally I've grown tired of dealing with.

But few, it seems. Also, these are launch games.

I never "got" the Dead Rising games and while this does look like an improvement, I still can't see this being fun for more than a couple of hours. I have to agree though, it does look like the most complete game for the new generation of consoles, at least among the exclusives.

@rekon: Stripping out the story wouldn't suddenly make the game cheaper. That's not the expensive part of the game's development, especially since the story segments have always been few and far between in the DR series.

Also you're not going to find anything about the launch titles that seems "next gen" those type of games usually don't come around until a year into a console's life cycle. For example It's not like this game could have really amazing graphic fidelity given the number of zombies (and other crap) on the screen.

@the_nubster Maybe, but now there are other games aside from Dead Rising that fill that specific niche or style of gameplay, like State of Decay.

How could the graphics look better without the frame rate becoming worse? A game like this couldn't have insane graphic fidelity while rendering all the stuff on screen that it is and still keep a decent frame rate on the Xbox One. Even high end PCs would have a problem with this game if it had "next gen" quality graphics.

The framerate really kills it, seems really sluggish at best whenever action goes on.

Wish this was out on PC.

@peritus: Why not? It has a free beat em up and a cool zombie game on day one launch. Gotta be better than the mediocre (at best) launch of another console out there :)

Man I hope this is an exclusive like Ninja Gaiden II was and out other places in six months, because this looks awesome. The changes are disappointing, but it looks like it still has a lot of that same goofy charm. That might be all I need.

If only there was some kind of platform where microsoft had the majority marketshare and that could support the huge amount of zombies on screen and 1080p/60fps.

If only that platform existed.

Having Patrick on this and the KI quick look reminds me why I miss him at the office.

On a more positive note; DR 3 looks pretty good.

When I started the video I checked to make sure my video card wasn't stuck downclocked. That's how choppy the frame rate is.

Looks fun for sure. Someone remind me to fish it out of the bargain bin in a couple years when I actually own an Xbox One.

It's like your purposely ignored how Brad said only that one street has frame rate problems.

@qawsed: When watching the downloaded file on my poorly configured or just bugged out VLC media player it's a choppy mess. Watching in something else like Windows Media Player it's smooth and looks like it's a GTA5 quality 360/PS3 game that happens to have insane amounts of zombies on screen.

I've never played a dead rising game, but I must admit that this looks pretty fun.

Brad is obviously an xbox fanboy saying that game is great, I can't even tell you how boring that game is.

One of the last things Brad did was picking up the purse.

Improved graphics? check

Smooth framerate (not just fps, but the consistency of it)? check

Interesting Kinect support? check

Still the same old zombie busting gameplay? check

The next gen has finally arrived, I guess.

I don't trust Brad's opinion of Dead Rising games at all.

This. The idea of a game where you do nothing but mow down zombies always sounded fun to me, but it never is as good as I imagine. Atleast my experience with these kinds of games(dead rising, Nazi Zombies in black ops) never is as fun as I would imagine. It is always monotonous.

Maybe this game offers more in the actual missions, but this quick look showed nearly none of that so I have no clue.

Yea cuz the console makes a game more fun...This statement is beyond stupid.

I found this quick look informative and fun. It was funformative. Good work, Brad. No plans to get the Bone for now, happy with the PS4, but this looks like a genuinely good time for my Xbox One-purchasing friends.

Here's hoping for a successful launch so we can all enjoy our respective game boxes and avoid this my-game-box-can-beat-up-your-game-box nonsense.

That frame rate isn't worth $500 plus $60.

I have no clue how this game doesn't get boring after an hour. Seems like there was nothing but fighting a giant group of zombies mixed in with a few missions to collect stuff. Might as well be playing Dynasty Warriors.

I can't tell if I'm trolling or not either by writing this.

at around 22 minutes... Did that zombie just shoot at brad?

I feel the same way about Dead Rising (though I did enjoy the first game for the novelty that it was), and I think I've narrowed down why. They give you all these cool toys and ridiculous weapons to kill stuff in crazy ways, but beyond pressing X to initiate a canned animation there really isn't much interactivity involved in the zombie slaughter. I never feel like I'm actually doing anything besides "testing" out the different kill animations - once you smash a zombie in the head with a sizzling frying pan, you've seen 100% of what that weapon does, with no variance due to physics or hitting them in different ways thanks to the way the animations work.

if anything it makes me want to go buy Dead Rising 2 (or any of the alternative versions) as I can get the same experience (graphics and gameplay) as what I saw here

While I will agree that the amount of zombies on screen is a little larger than the previous gen DRs it looks and plays just as the previous DRs with sub-par 30 framerate and horrendous pop-in

Plus the facade of the number of zombies is lost when you can clearly see zombies that are "animating" at less than 5-10 fps

Looks like fun. That framerate is kinda rough though, even with the heavy motion blur.
