Quick Look: Destiny (PS3)

Is it just me or does this still look good! I think the PS3 is still doing a great job and see it being played for many years to come!

It does look pretty good. The ground textures are pretty ugly compared to the next gen versions, but otherwise looks too close sadly. I would have hoped the next gen consoles would show more strength.

@pinner458: You're forgetting Watch Dogs, Dark Souls II…

This game looks fantastically boring.

AAA Game or Agonizingly Average Action Game

I asked this question to Jeff on his blog. Why doesn't the game have a broadband required label on the front or anywhere other than on the back in super small text?

@dithre: man I had a ton of fun with both those games but this is a struggle. I've found some sort of enjoyment in the multiplayer modes but single player is just ugh.

You know, with all the fanboy squabbles about an extra 100 lines of vertical resolution watching this makes you wonder why. Looks perfectly playable to me.

Y'know what? After seeing the current and last gen versions, I don't think the new versions actually matter that much. For what this game is, the new console doesn't do that much for me. It was probably the same for last gen except that there weren't so many cross-gen games to pull back the veil.

I also tested this myself, the quality was really surprising switching back and forth. After a couple of minutes, you kind of simply don'nt notice - it's more about the game in the first place. The PS3 quality is surprisingly good.

The fact you can quit the PS3, wait about 60 seconds, fire up the PS4 and play there from where you left off is AWESOME. I really hope this same kind of feature is added to GTAV TBH.

@pinner458: There was no "official" review of Dark Souls 2 by the Dark Souls fans (Patrick, Vinnie and Brad) and I'd say it's for good reason.

I'm no Destiny fanboy, not even close TBH but I can assure you, DS2 ........... that's definitely deserving of the title (thus far)

@jaina_solo_: Oh, I didn't know there was a new one after Xillia. I've only ever played that and Vesperia for Tales games. But i'll totally play more of them, I've really enjoyed the few I've played so far.

This game would be way better if when you reloaded with the clown cartridges it made a clown horn sound.

It's not half the frame rate at all...both are locked at 30 with some occasional dips below that, but never higher.

Over Watch_Dogs though?

I think so. Watch_Dogs is an open world game from Ubisoft where the hype came from the E3 2012 showing where it looked amazing, I don't think people were too hyped about how it played. Destiny on the other hand is the next big game from Bungie aka the duders that made Halo aka the game a lot of people look at as the first truly great console shooter and it has gorgeous art direction but a lot of the mission structure is go to X, let your little robot buddy do his thing and you shoot things in the meantime.

@skippersonne: I feel like Jeff's attitude towards Watch_Dogs was more "My God this is fuckin' mediocre" and Destiny was more "They really dropped the ball here", plus they were definitely more hyped for Destiny's potential than Watch_Dogs.

Watch Dogs also plays really well and has an enjoyable action/stealth gameplay loop. both have a bad story but at least Watch Dogs' is coherent.

Destiny has great combat but the lack of map and gun variety might push it over the edge.

You're forgetting that DkS2 was fantastic, even if it is the 'worst' in the series, Brad and Vinny still loved it, and the DLC is some of the best levels that the series has ever had. Hardly in contention.

The European PS4 version has "Online play only" or something along those lines on the front cover. Can't speak for other regions/versions though.

@a_e_martin: yeah on the US it just has a small box with the ps3 exclusive stuff.

I'm happy with the PlayStation 3 version until I get a PlayStation 4 next year.

Hrms...faster load time on the PS3 is tempting. Especially since it looks like I won't be getting a PS4 until late 2015. I do wanna get my Destiny on.

I kind of wish I had been playing this since Day 1 just to experience it before all the updates.

Last gen version looks pretty solid.
