After years of rumors, it's official that Brad has left Giant Bomb. I for one, will miss him.

I really think the books containing the multiple quests and achievements is the most important thing this game has added. Rather than being at the mercy of RNG you can complete those and get armor and rewards. When Brad quit because he saw Dave Lang get every raid drop in one run and he got nothing--that has happened to me more than a few times. Systems like leveling the new book--which guarantee drops--makes it feel like you earn drops instead of getting them by chance. Doing it that way makes it easier to find stopping points. Sure, you will need drops to infuse them past 340--I'm not saying everything is perfect now--but having these systems in place gives you direction and goals in a way the game hasn't really had.

Just my take. Feel free to agree/disagree.

Caffeine isn't a stimulant and doesn't do anything except cause anxiety. Scientists say either always drink coffee or never drink it because Jeff is absolutely correct, all drinking coffee does is return you to how you would've felt normally. It was on QI.

It's a shame they didn't look over their desks and ask someone at Gamespot for a crash course, or even sit in the quick look. I guess that's only for their best friend Danny.

@eskimosnow: Caffeine causes anxiety because it's a stimulant. I've seen similar studies to what you're talking about, but the overwhelming trend of evidence generally points to caffeine having a experimentally verifiable, non-trival, effect on wakefulness and focus at the very least (compared to a placebo).

As someone who hasn't kept up with Destiny since Vanilla Destiny. Have they done anything interesting with the Cabal in any of the expansions, I always thought they were one of the more interesting enemy factions in the game.

After watching this QL, I want a Danswers episode featuring Dan and Jeff talking about drugs (or what they know about drugs).

Also, that pistol is straight up a Glock.

I really want a podcast where Jeff just guides Dan through life.

And missions are STILL just "go through checkpoints, kill enemies, hold Square at terminal, Ghost spits out gibberish, shoots enemies that ambush you, win." Cool.

Jesus, they're still recycling the same maps that were in the Beta for "new" paid content? I never played the retail version, yet I still recognize the vast majority of this and thought it had gotten old even then with all the repetitive patrol missions.

Definitely saw the uncommon armor pop up and thought they added a brown item grade to the game...

Boy, this sure seems like fighting through the same areas from year 1 with a snow texture.

Remember how when Taken King came out they distinguished between year 1/year 2 gear and you couldn't upgrade the former to be as good as the latter? Have they done away with that for this expansion? Because I had some cool exotics and I have zero interest in getting back on the Xur grind.

@wagrid: That's not a thing here. There are no "year three" items, so you can just keep upgrading all the stuff you liked from year two.

@blacklagoon: The Plaguelands, the new destination in the expansion, includes a few areas from The Cosmodrome in it (and they've been mostly populated with new enemies), but there's a whole lot of totally new territory they didn't get to in the quick look. Most of the new content takes place in the new areas.

@aronoah: Not as much as I wish they would. The Cabal play a roll in The Taken King, and you can get a liiittle bit of their backstory there, but they haven't gotten an expansion focused on them the way the Fallen and the Hive have.

I'd say judgement is the entire point of the Quick Look. I'd rather have Jeff doing the QL because he has had fun with Destiny before, but doesn't let that get in the way of giving an honest assessment of this expansion.

They're right, all the silly dance bullshit makes the game worse.

@coldhands0802: Oh THANK GOD. I'll probably pick this up then - happy to play new content, would have been less happy to shove Tlaloc, which took me a month to get, into the vault.

Does that mean I can also go back and infuse year 1 items? I'm guessing no, but I kind of never let go of Ice Breaker.

When vaping first came out, I actually considered it, but I realized it was desire for nicotine still from a habit I put down decades ago. Nicotine is a player in the brain's reward system, just not as out front as heroin. It digs in though.. caffeine, not as much.

I think Jeff is getting confused with the DLCs. Taken King added a shit ton of content, I think he meant House of Wolves.

This video makes me want to start playing destiny again.

I don't think Jeff or Dan's opinions in this quick look are somehow wrong or invalid, but personally I would have liked to see someone who was a little more informed on the happenings in Destiny over the past year to sit in on this quick look. A lot of this quick look amounted to the guys going, "What was that again? I don't remember".

Is there any point for a new person picking up Destiny? I've always been curious to play through casually from the start with one of the bundles, but not sure if all the first two years of content are dead/irrelevant at this point.

Wait, when is this game set? There seems to be a bit with loads of scrap hatchback cars somewhere in space.

Not often I give up on a quick look, but this just seems counter-intuitive. I really don't want to be "that" guy, there's enough of "those" guys out there, they swarm the hills and Shenmue ER comment sections.

But what's the point of this? It's neither fun nor informative. If it was a minor game, I could understand the confusion on their part, but when there are dozens of 5 minute youtube videos, that detail all the changes made, that would have very well prepared them for this nearly hour long quick look. It just throws me a bit.

And I'd be totally okay with them going in blind, if they at least went in with open minds as well. This just seems like something they wanted to get done with and move on.

And you know, hey, maybe that's what this game deserves, just seems to me like it was decided ahead of time.

Anyone else not able to play or download any videos on the site right now? Its telling me there are server issues.....

I get that different people like different things, but let me put it this way - if you played an 8 hour raid and quit just because you got bad rewards, do the rewards even matter?

At that point, why not stop playing the game cause the 8 hours were obviously not fun for you.

I honestly got crap for my first run of the raid. But the process of getting there was fun as hell. And finally beating Oryx was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I've had. Gun and armor rewards cannot compare to that in the slightest.

I hope they do the raid at some point - watching someone play through those things is about as enjoyable as Destiny gets for me. Certainly not going to play it again. Perish the thought.

People used to use the tower to find pick up party memebers for slumming raids when their main was locked out for the week (you could only get drops from one raid per character per week).

Also the Hive are crustaceans that are infested by evil inter-dimensional worm things (like Stargate symbiotes). The crustaceans were formerly a protected by the Traveler (that giant white orb) until the evil worm hive took over the crustaceans and destroyed their world. Now they live in pocket dimensions each controlled by one of the 3 original crustacean/worm symbiotes. The Taken King was one of the 3.

I'm in the same position as Jeff, in that I have little icons everywhere on all the maps because I didn't complete everything as I got through it. It just looks messy and it's not worth going back through and doing the low level content.

Can we get a weekly Destiny and Vape feature?

I would pay good money to see Dan smoke some weed

ROI is short. ROI is great. Also, like all Destiny expansions, there are parts of it that are frustrating and dumb. It's still fun, though!
