They've done Vault of Glass and King's Fall. They need to do a stream of the new one. They were hilarious last time.

There's a lot that Jeff gets wrong in this quick look, which is fine because he readily admits that he plays the game just casually. But as someone who's put near 1500 hours into it now (yeah I know I'm crazy) listening to him mess up some basic stuff is a bit maddening.

As for DAN, if you want to run the raids, my friends and I can probably take you through the first one in roughly an hour, the second one in about 20 minutes and the third in about an hour again. Hit me up if you're interested.

Also Jeff, there's almost no chance that you'll be raid ready by just completing the story. That will put you at roughly 340 light if you're lucky and the minimum light for the raid is 365.

It's a great expansion so far, but definitely catered towards the hardcore community. Not as big as TTK, but not as expensive. Bungie has a GREAT pulse on what they're community wants. It's easy to jump in and criticize this expansion I think, but most of the community is having a blast so far. Here's to hoping the new raid is on par with VoG or Kingsfall!

Also, the dances are great haha, the community loves it. They can have their opinion about the dances being dumb but the rest of us are enjoying it in the meantime.

ALSO, sorry for the comment spam, but the competitive multiplayer is great in Destiny; that's where I spend the majority of my time. I get that it's not for everyone, but there's an amazing positive community surrounding it. I recommend anyone to check out /r/crucibleplaybook if you're interested!

Not often I give up on a quick look, but this just seems counter-intuitive. I really don't want to be "that" guy, there's enough of "those" guys out there, they swarm the hills and Shenmue ER comment sections.

But what's the point of this? It's neither fun nor informative. If it was a minor game, I could understand the confusion on their part, but when there are dozens of 5 minute youtube videos, that detail all the changes made, that would have very well prepared them for this nearly hour long quick look. It just throws me a bit.

And I'd be totally okay with them going in blind, if they at least went in with open minds as well. This just seems like something they wanted to get done with and move on.

And you know, hey, maybe that's what this game deserves, just seems to me like it was decided ahead of time.

Agreed. But that's how they do things sometimes, judge them before they've seen or played it. As someone who loves the game, it was a little weird and off putting to hear them get all types of shit wrong. Not trying to be an elitist there, it just seems if you're going to bash a game for having certain faults, you should be sure you're actually correct those faults are there... shouldn't you?

Also why is it bad for them to talk about things THEY don't like? The are not here to represent what the community likes/thinks. They are here to talk about what they like or don't like. *shrug* never understood your viewpoint...

I played Destiny for a month when it first came out. Did the single player campaign, a few dungeons and patrol missions, and quit after about twenty hours. Just way too much wrong with that thing, but what I remember most clearly was all the content recycling. Starting at the same point in Venus and having to run through filler areas to reach missions that were ten to fifteen minutes long at best. A dungeon on the moon that required going through an alien base I'd already seen way too many times, but now a door was open that led to a big room with an ogre. A dungeon on Mars that just repeated a Martian hotel single player level, but a random door at the end now opened into a hangar with three sub-boss pricks to shoot. On and on. So little to do, stretched on forever.

Rambling? Yeah, but in the midst of Jeff and Dan's marvelous caffeine / vape bit (around the 19:30 mark,)... I realized that the new Rise of Iron level they were doing was re-using the first level of the game in reverse order with ice textures! The first level from 2014, just in reverse order with a winter theme. What the hell is wrong over there at Bungie-land? That's just inexcusable. I've heard that the entirety of the new story missions can be completed in three hours, and they're recycling two year old levels within that three hours? Gods... look, I know about the reports that their tech is unwieldy and miserable when it comes to making new content, but that's no excuse for this level of laziness. They've had two years to fix their tech and improve their content pipeline, and this. I'm glad I quit Destiny early on. I will not be buying Destiny 2 either. *grimaces* Just sad.

I'd love to see them stream the new raid again like they did last time.

Edit: Dan's never done a raid. Would love to see them somehow organize the GB crew running through all four raids.

Brad quit because he saw Dave Lang get every raid drop in one run and he got nothing

I get that different people like different things, but let me put it this way - if you played an 8 hour raid and quit just because you got bad rewards, do the rewards even matter?

At that point, why not stop playing the game cause the 8 hours were obviously not fun for you.

I honestly got crap for my first run of the raid. But the process of getting there was fun as hell. And finally beating Oryx was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I've had. Gun and armor rewards cannot compare to that in the slightest.

Well to be fair, he re-downloaded it the next day. I honestly probably share your enthusiasm for the game but I would never tell you that the grind is fun and can often be frustrating and just a waste of time.

That intro video they had is the game I wanted, not this cartoony Borderlands Grind game with no content. Everything they do bring out they just reskin stuff and copy and paste... though it shouldn't be surprising as that was their Halo tactic too.

If you'd like to make up your own mind, you'd play the game yourself. So when someone who doesn't know much about the game is trying to explain the game to someone else (which is what a QL is all about), then don't be surprised when people who do have knowledge on the matter call them out for it.

It's really incredible how much Bungie/Activision dropped the ball on this game, the gunplay is solid everything else is just shallow, it still blows my mind how proudly people proclaim that they dumped absurd amounts of hours into this. When the game launched the storyless campaign was over in a few hours and the first raid wasn't even there, once I finished that raid what the hell did everyone else go do? Play the one hit kill fest that is the competitive MP? Replay the same missions over and over or wander the same small maps grinding pickups forever?

They sold everyone on a Halo/Borderlands MMO and came out with a shitty Halo game with a terrible campaign with no story. Within 1 year my $60 dollar copy of the game was completely worthless, I either had to spend $80 to download all the DLC (You could not just get TKK) or go spend another $60 dollars on a game that I had "finished" in less than 20 hours. I really don't get what you would be doing for that many hours unless your just obsessed with the (awful) competitive MP.

I feel like everyone who defends it never played an MMO so this seemed like some kind of revelation on consoles.

Destiny is one of the most disappointing games ever released. I got a PS 4 and as my "one game" to get me to stop playing PC games all the time I got the taken king and a XIM 4 thinking that I could play it with mouse and keyboard and it would be better.

Well, I got to max level and was like "this is cool" and then I was like "there is nothing to do" and after grinding max light WITHOUT even raiding I was like whats the point? This game isn't very fun.

Then this comes out. I am like ok maybe they learned their lesson. Maybe like WOW they breathed a shit ton of life into it with tons of content and then ... this ... what the hell how can you make a game where all you do is sell dances and have NO FRICKIN CONTENT at max level? How can you release an expansion that is literally just DLC and not even close to what is considered an expansion.

Destiny is just upsetting. It has so much promise but they refuse to make content for it.

@liquidprince: the only problem with this game is that like I, don't have friends that I can rely on to run it. You almost have to treat it like WoW and be on religiously say tuesdays and thursdays at x o'clock. I wouldn't mind that or to have people who are reliable.

I'll roll with because I had a great time with Destiny just no one to continuously play with.

Having a blast with Rise of Iron so far. The lowest part is that if I want to have a high light level as soon as humanly possible I need to run on that loot treadmill super hard. I don't mind the grind. There is usually a friend online playing Destiny I can run strikes with, which makes the grind less apparent because we just usually talk about other stuff while doing strikes. If we get bored, we can just have some fun in the Crucible. It's a nice game to play with friends.

But ... what if someone didn't think it was a fun game plain and simple? Which I can tell you right now a lot of the destiny hate is coming from the fact its a bad game not the fact that people simply dislike it because they are crazy or whatever you think is going on.

@kendoebi: It's always interesting to see someone appear on the site when they're a bigger fan of the subject matter than the commentary.

I'm getting gorillas on Bungie net right now or I'd quote my playtime at you, somewhere in the region of 20 days.

The staff do genuinely enjoy this game, at its best, but they aren't the sort of people to clock in on the regular to grab their weekly spektar drops or whatever the reward loop is this season. In terms of raw, structured content which doesnt reuse the map there are maybe two and a half CoD-sized campaigns worth of story in Destiny, spread over the initial release, two weak DLC, a solid expansion in TTK and RoI which sure looks like a chunky version of House of Wolves.

There are some genuine great aspects to Destiny, but when you compare its merits against other shooters it comes across as confused with some real structural flaws.

P.S. Bring back Dinklebot.

Despite its flaws, I loved playing Destiny through The Taken King but stopped just after finishing the raid, about a year ago now. I don't think I'm up for more, though, at least until I see what they do in Destiny 2. I'm ready for a fresh start.

Doesn't that mean you imply you also don't care about this Quick Look and Dan and Jeff's opinion though?

Either way, the problem is there is loads of stuff they are saying in this video that just isn't true: not a matter of opinion. Personally, I couldn't care less about any Quick Look about main stream games anymore. It's just never useful. They very rarely have basic information on the game. At least Quick Looks on lesser known games are still good because they enhance my game discoveries.

@deathpooky: Honestly I think now is the best time to be picking up Destiny. You get the base game and 4 expansions for the price of the base game at launch. It actually feels like there is a good amount of content now. Outside of the raids, the rest of the content plays well enough solo that it doesn't matter whether it's "dead" or not.

@do_the_manta_ray: I'm in somewhat the same position these guys are in, I haven't played in many months and I don't remember all the systems anymore. I knew that this wasn't the video to bring me up to speed or summarize the new additions--this isn't my first Quick Look--but I figured it would be fun listening to these guys muse about Destiny for a while. This is just about what I expected.

I like this game more than Jeff or Dan, also I like the PvP way more than the PvE, which is kind of an endless chore, but where I definitely do agree with them is that the dancing is the absolute worst. Everyone who paid money for that Drake shit should be sterilized.
