It's funny to me that Summer of Arcade is supposed to be like this great thing but in reality it just means games get delayed in order to fit into the schedule.

Wasn't the guy who voiced scrooge the voice since he was originally invented for the Disney Christmas carol cartoon (maybe longer, I dont know- I always assumed that was his first appearance as he is named Scrooge)?

I guess that wasn't much older than Duck Tales, but still that guy is probably pretty old. I know the lady who played Magica was the voice of Rocky the flying squirrel and she is really old. Shes been doing voice acting longer than most of us have been alive. A very talented lady but she is getting old so... she will sound like it. It's really a credit they can even still do it at all.

In my opinion, though, even though I love that they did the voices- the voices are unnecessary. The original game didn't have them, and I know they tried to make it more modern by giving it story and what not, but it doesn't seem to actually add anything.

Anyway, nostalgia not with standing, I think this looks fun. I never played the NES version so I do look forward to checking this out.

Jeeeesus. It's one thing to quickly look up a character, but going on and on naming characters... is boring as fuck, and somehow frustrating for the viewer. Let's stick closer to that "no phones" thing next time.

Oh shit Magica (June Foray) was the voice of Rocket J Squirrel, Betty Rubble, and Talky Tina from The Twilight Zone. Mind blown.

As well as Witch Hazel in Looney Tunes and Mama Brickolini in Lego Island! Jeff even joked about it during that Unprofessional Friday without realizing that it was the same voice actress.

Magica De Spell is June Foray. She was the voice of Rocky and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle. She's in her 90s now so its not really a surprise she sounds a little old. But, it's awesome she's still working!

Reminds me of Cold Shadow for the SNES. Wish they'd do a remaster of that game, I remember it being pretty damn cool.

LOOK AT THOSE NES FONT NUMBERS ON THE SCREENS NEXT TO THE LEVEL SELECT COMPUTER THING.

I loved the TV show back in the day, but the comics where always the best. Especially the ones by Don Rosa and Carl Barks.

Info dump:

The name of the state Duckburg i located in is called Calisota, based on California and Minnesota.

Don did a teach Scandinavian kids such as myself lots about american history in crossover stories. Like american presidents, the gold rush in Alaska, buffalo bill.

While typing this i found this crazy blog showing the whole history of the ducks, mcducks, duckburg and the money bin: http://duckman.pettho.com/history/index.html

The detail that Don Rosa created for the comic universe is amazing, here is the duck family tree:

The game itself looks good, maybe a bit basic gameplay for me.

If anyone was interested (personally, I thought it was the most interesting thing in this Quick Look) the CRT stuff Brad was talking about seems like it could be this topic: http://board.byuu.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3793 with an example image here: http://imgur.com/ugO6vLq,fbee3vh#1

Personally, I donʼt particularly care for “NTSC” filters as I grew up with all my systems hooked up to a CRT via RGB SCART. In fact, for some systems I had to go out and purchase an RGB cable to have the image display in colour. (Dreamcast in PAL60 for example)

Itʼs a real shame that NTSC users had to put up with Composite, S-Video, and Component connections.

Sure, component allowed you to use progressive scan with some later PS2 titles, but the loss of chroma resolution sucked. I ended up switching between SCART and Component connections depending on whether the game supported 480p or not.

But there are a number of CRT “artefacts” that I wouldnʼt mind seeing properly emulated. Games that use a lot of dither often look really bad without some kind of filter over them, and while I have traditionally preferred the look of consoles being upscaled or emulated without filters, some of the newer developments arenʼt that bad.

There are now some de-dithering filters that do a reasonably good job, for example, though itʼs still not perfect. Source, De-dithered. (details here)

Brings back memories of my Youth, played the original on my friends NES a lot and watching the show.

But something threw me for a loop when watching this regarding Magica : Why would a Duck need to turn into a Vulture?

WHY WOULD A DUCK TURN INTO A VULTURE?

Why would a Bird turn into another Bird?

WHY WOULDN"T A DUCK TURN INTO A FLYING DUCK?

I guess the Cognitive Dissonance of my youth has started to evaporate.

Ok, since we know Vinny loves to read the lore on things, someone needs to get him a copy of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. The comic collection is fantastic. It is a little pricy right now.

I think the Himalaya level was exactly like the NES/GB version, I seem to remember most of the areas Jeff walked through, don't know for sure about the Transylvania level though.

Also, while I understand there's not much profit in Vita games, I wish this was released on Vita. I played the original on Game Boy, and to me it feels like a game you should play on a handheld system.

Hey Giantbomb? Why don't you guys ever use google whenever you don't know the answer to stuff like "What's the name of Scrooge's nemesis", etc? IT'S FLINTHART GLOMGOLD!

Did you watch the entire Quick Look? They spent about half of it googling that, including that specific query.

Don't know where in NC @brad grew up, but in my town, Disney Afternoons was on WJZY TV 46, which later become the channel for UPN.

Jeff Johnson was the MC during commercial bumps. When I was in undergrad at Boone, I bumped into him at an ABC Store. He thought it was hilarious when I said I used to watch him all the time as a kid.
