Quick Look: DuckTales: Remastered

@topgunmv: I agree, I tend to lean more to the viewpoint of Jeff on overall objective assessment of this game but in terms of entertainment the Game Informer video was more worthwhile. I was disheartened by his panning of voice work while I personally don't have a problem with it. Seeing the good in anything and crediting for what it is seems to be in short supply these days.

I can't bring myself to be critical of this game. It's different than Castle of Illusion where they've already tried many times to recapture what worked, and continually fucked it up worse each time. Flaws and all, I'm still glad they tried. Still glad they're messing it up by putting too much story and too much one-take voice acting from the original cast in.

Because both the show and the game should have been brought back a long time ago.

Plenty of truth in that statement. I would rather be able to appreciate and enjoy more things in life, than to limit myself by being overly picky. (Though critical analysis is obviously still important.) For my part, I try to judge remakes against the games from era the original was released in.

Pay Day 2 is way better value then this short game. I will think about buying it on a steam sale for under $3! Maybe....

Sorry but I can't understand why any adult, or teenager for that matter, would want to play this game unless they have some very high level of nostalgia reverence. It just looks like an incredibly simplistic and boring kiddie side scroller with nothing special about it in this day and age. There's so many cheap side scrollers out there these days with innovative, creative and fun mechanics as well as better production values/stories/characters/voice acting than this. Watching a guy just jump around on baddies heads and platforms, collect coins and pretty much nothing else doesn't cut it for me at all anymore. I'll never understand why so many people value nostalgia more than actual fun gameplay, I personally am perfectly willing to let go of the past, but to each his own I guess...

Someone mentioned Gummi Bears; that could translate well into a game. Its got Gummiberry Juice powerups and bouncing looks fun.

Damned, I'll join that club! Had to google up some images and I totally remember seeing lots of those in the past. Played it at a friend, probably, or rather watched him play, because I have no memory of the gameplay itself...

John D Rockerduck was the nemesis I was thinking of when they were discussing it. Never watched ducktales though.

There's something about the 3D backgrounds.. I don't know. It's making the world feel smaller in some odd way. Not a fan of the lighting either; it definitely doesn't mesh well with the sprite work half the time.

It does seem like their hearts are in the right place though. Getting the original VO must have been a monumental task. I'm just not sure what to think of this product as a whole.

When i was a kid they had this game where you called in on the phone and played a video game by saying "PIX" when you wanted to shoot.....i think it was a space ship firing at other space ships, or something.

I grew up loving that channel. Great Space Coaster ruled!

It was out of New York i believe. I was in the Lehigh Valley, in PA and it was channel 11 for us.

I'll get this game later on when it's a bit cheaper. I liked DuckTales well enough and I never played the original game.

Also, I thought the voice acting was fine. Everyone sounded more or less the same to me and after looking it up, it's because it's the same voice actors. I don't know what's up with the crew.

God this looks just....not great.

They was all being kind of grumpy jaded old ass holes during this quicklook more than usual.

Then again they are in the same building as Tom Mcwhatever so I would guess some of his powers of senseless bitching are rubbing off and being transferred by osmosis to giantbomb.

Maybe it's been awhile since i've seen the cartoon but i think Scrooge McDuck sounds good. Especially for a 93 year old actor.

And yeah, I gotta agree, the world needs a Darkwing metroidvania.

Alan Young (who also starred on Mr. Ed) was the voice of Scrooge McDuck on the TV series and is listed as the voice of Uncle Scrooge on this 2013 game.

Alan Young is 93! Of course he sounded different than he did 25 years ago. I'm amazed he's still alive. If he or June Foray were mentioned in a game of "Dead? Or Still Alive?" I'd have lost before this update was announced.

I cracked up when it crashed

This Quick Look was pretty much going to end at about 30 minutes (Jeff starts to summarize his thoughts on how there are things to like), then it suddenly just keeps going for 7 more minutes as they play the Himalayas level.

The preview image looks like a woman's body.

Getting a very Sonic Adventure vibe from the music...
