which is weird, because i kind of enjoy these games, but find diablo and all its kind (except for champions of norrath, for some reason...) to be super boring.

I don't think DW is a bad game, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to play more than one version of DW due to how similar they all are. Definitely diminishing returns with the DW series.

Samurai Warriors was my favorite out of the whole series.

Horses now can talk. I saw it on TV. They had to give up something to do that though.

I've seen a Japanese version on playstation live and it looked a bit more arcadey fun when the guy was using a ton of super powers racking up huge combos.

I don't think any platform can manage the Dynasty Warriors Vinny and Jeff want. Like having persistent corpses that respond to physics is really tough once you get > 10 in there.

Just look games that feature destructible environments. Your PC will already experience difficulty handling extreme amounts of debris falling simultaneously - and those are just basic, low poly-count shapes (and even then they disappear after awhile to preserve RAM and CPU cycles). Imagine what will happen if you swap them with actual dudes. No hardware can realize this.

I hope the next one is next generation only PS4 and XB1. I can see why XL didn't make it to Xbox One due to a combo of it not being out in Japan and the port work done on PS4 looks like they simply got it to run on that platform and had little time for anything else, judging by that unstable framerate.

i still love how people come here expecting high-level play, no matter what genre game they're playing...

More like, "how about a Dynasty Warriors game but for Gundam fans?" There is a One Piece DW game also.

I wish they made a modern version of the tactical (I want to say it was DW:Empires?) side of these games. Crazy top-down FF:Tactics type thing set in the 3 Kingdoms period. Anyone else play that or did I make that all up? Think it was PS2? Anyone?

@metal_mills: They played the orginal 8 on Xbox360 and KOEI never gave much a fuck for the 360 version. The 360 versions of DW are notorious for their bad frame rate.

That being said I would like to have seem they play CO-OP split screen on PS4. If you think draw distance is bad already, in my experience on the PS2 days... playing Split screen was like playing in a fog. They halve the draw distance even further.

Nothing anyone says will ever stop me from loving this series.

Also, this was probably the worst game to let two colour blind people play. The only real distinction between the fodder of both sides is the red / blue life bars on top.

Oh man, they should make a new Romance of the Three Kingdoms game with a MOBA-style battle system. I'd play the hell out of that.

Other than the fact that the touch input garbage ruins it, Dynasty Warriors Next on the Vita is really really good. Also (was) free on PS+ for a while.

e: That is a cheap job, missing lots of narrator voice. And no, even regular enemies do not stand around and not attack. They are more of a threat than Titanfall's "cloud powered" "AI".

Dynasty Warriors 8 is great. Tons of content, endless loot, and there is plenty of skill necessary on higher difficulty modes.

I can certainly understand not liking the game - everyone has different tastes and there are lots if games people love that I don't like - but I would wager a bet that 99% of the people who shit on DW8 haven't played it and 80% have never even played a DW game at all.

I just don't get Dynasty Warriors.

So these games are almost, but not quite, entirely unlike the Souls games?

Came to see Dynasty Warriors defense force in action, was not disappointed.

They have a lot of similarities. They're both mind numbingly boring Japanese-made games with insufferably obnoxious fanbases for one. Also they both have swords in them.

Anyone at Giantbomb, you guys should at least learn how to play the game before you decry it as garbage. Honestly you just went around randomly killing people. That's not the point of DW. You guys don't even know what you are supposed to do on the map. There's all sorts of stuff going on each level and you have to make it different places at different times. Depending on how you go about it certain people will be alive and thus affecting your gameplay and story. I'm not saying any DW game is deep but you guys do yourselves a disservice to not even attempt to play the game except mindlessly killing people. Imagine if you reviewed GTA and said you can only go around and kill people. This Quick Look deserves a big fat DURRRR...

I'd get a PS4 just for this game alone.

I really want to play a new Dynasty Warriors now... sunk dozen of hours into DW3 back on PS2. Good ol' beat-em-up fun in a wacky package.

Though to be fair, the game is supposed to be centered around riding from officer to officer and fighting them while getting swarmed by huge groups of mobs, and standing in one area hitting a tiny group of mobs with no officers around isn't what the game's about.

Really hope those PC rumors are true, played the shit out of them when I had my PS2 but have never owned a console since then. Technically the newer DW games are on Steam but not worldwide so idk what the fuck Koei' problem is on that....so bizarre.

They have less than flattering things to say about why people play these games and of course the series in general. Not as harsh language as I've heard them use to criticize these games in the past but fairly harsh despite the fact it seems like they didn't learn some of the core mechanics (most notably as what you should/could do on the map when ). I'm sure you've heard most of it before, but I don't think you'd like hearing it nonetheless given how much you like the series.

The graphics and art style here look pretty good. I'm actually pretty interested in getting this one since the PS4's a bit dry and I already finished Infamous. The Dynasty Warriors games are just simple modern brawlers. I'm not sure whats hard to understand or why people need to attack something they have no interests in.

Game looks good anyway so I'll probably pick it up.
