Also, the QL of DW 8 was on the 360, so that's why there's no saves :)

I loved DW8 on PS3 and will probably pick this up for PS4 soon.

I'm not going say this is a great series. It's probably the laziest game series of all time, but you're really only supposed to bother killing the guys with the names above their heads. It's a better game when you stick to that. Not a great game, but the fodder enemies are just set dressing to make the game look more exciting.

You know... all the infantry in this series are useless. They don't seem to do much damage or put up much of a fight really, but I guess I can't really blame them since they are fighting against superhumans. My question is, why don't they just leave the infantry behind and let all the generals, or what ever they are, with all their superhuman strength and abilities fight it out in DBZ like battles?

I'm going to say this is a great series.

I am a fan of the Warriors games (Though I hold out for Empires). But I am a bigger fan of Jeff and Vinny shitting on the things I love.

Dynasty Warriors games are fun.

So many characters with unique specials.

Each weapon set feels different.

I get why people shit talk it. But I find progressing through these games, getting new weapons, leveling up, to be really satisfying. This has the same appeal as earth defense force to me

I have high hopes for dynasty warriors 9 being a true step up though.

You know I'll give them one thing, the PS3 version they did a QL of had AWFUL framerate. This runs smooth at least.


They should make a Dynasty Warriors 3rd person MOBA. This series would actually be way more fun if it had all the craziness and the thousands of AI guys mixed with 5vs5 competitive.

Horses can't run on water. Sometimes I really do wonder if these games are historically accurate. I know it was cowboy times and all, but that doesn't mean a horse should be able to do something a modern horse can't do. That would be devolution, not evolution. Darwin's theory states that animals evolve with time, not devolve.

I know little about these games, but it is slowly sinking in they are not quite serious. I kind of get part of it is the spectacle.4

What's funny is that if you watch the 360 quick look this does look way better visually than that and runs at double or triple the framerate. Like compared to other PS4 games it may look bad, but it is quite a massive step up for the franchise in several areas from a graphics standpoint.

Ask yourselves why people like playing Diablo and Diablo-like games and you'll be coming close to what it's like to like Dynasty Warriors and other mass-brawler games. It's killing and loot and mastery. I genuinely hope Vinny and Jeff's incredulousness at how anyone couldn't possibly share their taste in games is feigned for the audience.

The only real difference is that Blizzard doesn't make a new Diablo every year with an "Xtreme Legends" expansion pack 6 months later. If that were the case, I'd bet a Bai Ze that they'd be asking the same questions about Diablo, too.

The Warriors games do get more demanding on the higher difficulties, where you have to be more aware of what your various attacks do and which ones you're using against which types of enemies. That said, my favorite "Warriors" game is Capcom's Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. Better combat, more interesting characters, more distinctive levels, etc.

Wish they'd bring Sengoku Basara 4 out in the west, especially if they ported it to the Vita or PS4. Sadly, it doesn't look like that will happen.

I was going to go with Luis Bufu, but like Jim Sterling's Lu Butiful better. 4/5 stars? Really? Reeaaallly?

Seems like these games are just agin out a bit. I think they could super crazy action game and fill the screen with nothing but crazier enemies and graphical effect.

OR they could go the opposite direction and make it a MOBA. It's almost there with the equipment, volume of characters, map control points, and even creep waves.

Makes you think, not much, but just a little.

Good to see the PS4 now has its own zombie game.

Jeff's continued attempts to pretend that no one can possibly like these games for any valid reasons is getting real old real fast.

@unangbangkay: This maybe being the laziest video game series ever in terms of how many games has been released with just minor differences is a huge part of why this series is seen as a joke by many (also: These games are technical messes), I imagine. I understand why some people like it in the same way I like the Diablo games, but the "Should I play Dynasty Warriors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 before playing this?" jokes happens for a reason.

Lazy rehashes of the same game over and over again is only half the problem with dynasty warriors. The gameplay and technical stuff is just bad. Look at what Jeff is doing the entire time in the quick look. Pushing random buttons against hordes of enemies that all look the same and boss characters that just stand there and take it in the blandest environments you could possibly put in a video game. There is no real situational awareness or interesting loot comparisons necessary, the production values are abysmal and the story and characters have been the same for 10 years.

Dynasty Warriors is like a fortune cookie, now that one's come out for the next-gen consoles it means good fortune will bestow these consoles this holiday season

i don't know. i do enjoy these games. there's something very satisfying about running in and destroying hundreds of guys in a few minutes.

though they all seem to be exactly the same, at least to my eyes (though i don't claim to actually be any good at these games, so maybe that invalidates my opinion).

that said, even i recognise that there is a lot more to them than random button mashing.

I can totally see people playing these games while doing something else, that's mostly how I played something like Borderlands (which lead to revelatory story epiphanies when I played the sequel with actually paying attention to the story.)

That said, this is the type of game where I feel like an arm-chair dev, thinking some really simple changes and additions could improve this series significantly.

What's the game that plays similar to this but has a Gundam-like suit you fight with? This reminds me of another QL Jeff did a while ago but i forget the game.

If only the intro cinematic was an accurate representation of the games.
