Quick Look: EX: Dance Central 3

And still...the game itself looks like a giant snooze. Granted, I do also have an intense dislike for modern dance music and the spastic dance moves it brings about.

But still, why is this so goddamn popular? Is the Kinect really that much of a wasteland? (rhetorical alert).

So can I dance off against Slash in this or what?

And I have to echo, the look and feel of this game is extremely similar to Saints Row 3. The exaggerated body features, the insane amount of purple, the psychotic storyline, etc. Might as well be made by the same dudes.

One of the leading QLEX-compatible developers, glorious secret Jeff appearance, John Drake and an excellent Annette main dancing performance (is she the community manager, did I even spell the name correctly - questions, questions...). What more could anyone want? Oh, and of course there's the time travel plot!

I do greatly enjoy the content provided, but the EX least so. If the developer is down with the format it can be a treat. The reason I come to GB is to hear dudes talk about games. Sometimes the EX feels less genuine.

It's either EX or nothing in a lot of these cases, im sure. I would always prefer more content to less. So either DC3 EX now, or regular quick look when it releases TWO MONTHS from now.

I feel EX's step on the staff's expression of themselves and the GB exposition of the game. That's how I feel., with these caveats;

One, at least the ql mechanics will be done right with knowledge of and in context, ie, a certain staffer will then know about those health packs,...

And two, sometimes the pp. doing the EXing are pretty damned cool and informative. Especially that Brad dude, for example.

So, I understand and accept it, it's not 'fir or agin' in my book, but straight QL's are always first consideration, if possible.

BTW, Watched some of this and thought it was hilarious. Not my kind of game in the slightest but pretty cool...from a distance.

Yep. Most of the time, I get kind of bummed when I see an EX because I want the game to speak for itself, but there are some developers that make it so much better. Like Harmonix or Double Fine.

Giant Bomb Quick Looks in the past were synonymous with honesty and genuine feelings of a game coming in only briefly researching it before playing it (though that lack of research and experience with the game draws ire sometimes).
 
You get to hear how a video game reviewer actually genuinely feels about a game with no fluff at all, this is why Giant Bomb has been successful and drew so many fans with their Quick Looks. Honesty in video game journalism is something that is hard to come as I am sure many people know.
 
Quick Look EX represent the complete opposite and essentially the perversion of this. Quick Look EX's are the reason why Quick Looks needed to exist, and why they became popular in the first place.
 
They are complete fluff and show absolutely no honest personality. Quick Looks are about eliminating the BS and getting to how the reviewer actually feels about what they are experiencing, you can't do that in front of the game's PR staff right in front of you. 
 
Even if they could, it wouldn't be respectful.
 
They really need to stop naming these "Quick Look EX" because it is like naming them "Honest Lies". I understand that they are trying to ride the popularity of their greatest content by using the name Quick Look, but they should try to define clear lines between the PR Fluff visits from game developers and publishers and actual content where they get to voice how they genuinely feel about video games.
 
There are many other websites where you can view Fluff videos like this. I come to Giant Bomb because I want to know how Ryan, Jeff, Brad, Vinny, Patrick, Drew, Dave and Alexis genuinely feels about the game they are talking about.
 
It is biggest reason why Giant Bomb is so respected in the first place. But I can see how hard it is to be honest without having Video Game Publishers and Developers cut ties and blackballing your website :(

Oh god. If you have a problem with the EXs because GB can't be "honest" with their opinion just don't watch the EX. It's really that simple. An EX never henders GB from doing a QL later on the game and giving their opinion in full. EXs are a way of seeing games earlier than normal. EXs are demos that used to ONLY be shown to GB and they couldn't talk about them for weeks/months. Or best case they had to try and describe to you what they saw. With EXs you're getting the demo as GB is getting it. Yeah, they can't shit all over the game infront of people, but your own eyes don't lie. You're all dumbasses. Also, that lead developer is a douche, go cut you're stupid ass hair.

I'm not sure I understand the EX complaints... it's either a QL EX or no QL at all. If you'd prefer the latter, simply don't watch.

you are not forced to watch this my friend but you can also watch it at another time if there are to meny ex's for you leave it for when there aren't as many quick looks.

After watching this all I could think is, "I'm sorry John Drake but Hqppy Action Sequel Dubstep is 1000x better than anything in this game."

First of all complaining about Quick Look Exs is stupid. Second of all... What happens to Harmonix when people get sick of Dance Central? Go back to Rock Band? I love Harmonix... Don't get me wrong... I'm just worried their future is a rocky one, no pun intended!

Felt a bit forced, but good job on Ryan trying his best. Early on that guy joked about how he's just going to ignore Ryan and keep talking about the game, so yeaaaah.

Nothing makes me happier than watching John Drake dance. My god, I just feel terrific.

I couldn't care less about Dance Central, but I love me some John Drake.

Not entirely true. A quick look EX is still going to put the product through a decent amount of scrutiny simply because it's on show for 30 or so minutes. I mean to think of a recent example, watching the QL on that persona fighter and having the guy surf through an absolutely absurd level of text. Yeah the guy was there chaperoning the quick look, and yeah everyone involved was polite about it... but it was still very clearly way to much nonsense to sift through.

John Drake still has a knack for PR. Great guy.

However, 3 Dance Central Games in 2 years? The quality is there, I guess, but I feel like this is the same situation Guitar Hero was in. Release as many sequels as possible before the fad is gone.
