I've been waiting two years for this. It's good to see my patience rewarded with feelings of excitement, and not disappointment! =D

This looks very interesting to me. I realised recently that there seems to be a lack of games that delve into programming and the technical aspects of game design as a gameplay mechanic, hopefully this is starting to change.

I dream of complex hacking mini-games replacing the current standard of connect the dots.

It may just be me, but the idea of changing variables and such kinda stresses me out. When he starts talking about the stuff you'll be doing in later areas, my brain just tells me to run away. The art is kinda blowing me away though.

Looking forward to speed runs of this. Imagine all the glitches and bugs to exploit without actually "breaking the rules".

Imagine the breaking outside of the inside baseball rules attributed to the gameplay itself? A beautiful medley of broken stuff you're allowed to do and broken stuff you just broke legitimately.

If they deliver a final act that goes head-on into subverting anti-cracking countermeasures and self-modifying code I will be absolutely blown away. That is so incredibly awesome and ambitious.

Kind of a strong Eyvind Earle influence in the art. Not that that's a bad thing.

looks awesome. Unfortunately as far as early access goes I feel like given the linear nature i'd rather pay for the finished experience as I dont see it being something I could play through more than a few times.

That said I'm happy to pay early access and let it marinate. Paying to play test it for them though - not keen.

Double fines art and character design continues to be some of the best in the industry.

This tends to be my problem with early access games in general I won't play through them multiple games I'd rather come to it when I'm good and ready and it's finished.

Actually do like the look of this they did a good job of sharpening it up I didn't really enjoy the prototype.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I got crazy flashbacks to using cheat engine to get through the last half of Evoland.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of the QL EX, (mostly bc it lacks the critical bite of the normal GB features), but this makes a lot of sense. Very interesting game with cool, novel concepts And I actually appreciated the developer commentary!

I hope this manages to make it to a console one day. My PC sucks and I greatly prefer playing consoles on my TV. I might go ahead and get it for PC when it comes out, though, if I can make sure my PC won't run it like complete trash.

I finally took some time to figure out what Hack 'n' Slash is all about. I'm glad I did - can't help but be very, very excited due to all the promise on display here. The ideas sound almost too good to be true but, man, do I hope this'll be amazing.

This seems awful. Not only are the visuals hideous, the writing terrible and the puzzles utterly boring, but the basic concept is fundamentally anti-immersive. It's like it never occurred to these guys that there might be a good reason why video game designers go (and have always gone) to such great lengths to hide the inner workings of their games.

@icemael: I'm inclined to agree with you, but remember that he said that the sword "broke" and there was a way to fight, or some sort of real combat. I'm not sure how much that can add but it's called Hack and Slash .

The '60s cartoon style is great! I really like the concept as well; it seems like a call-back to games like Thief, where solutions are fluid. But I'm unsure if the gameplay would stay engaging for more than an hour or two.

I can think of plenty of games that don't at all bother to hide their inner workings. Any game with visible character stats or damage numbers on weapons is baring its own mechanics specifically because that's what some players like about games. Plenty of games give the player patrol paths and vision cones without some kind of magic hat to explain it away. You're acting as if nothing great ever happened because someone thought to subvert the usual conventions, when in my experience, the trend points to the exact opposite.

Not all games are about making the player feel like they're in another world. In fact, I'd say very few even bother to try. That's okay, because they can still have fun mechanics.

The concept seems really cool. Not a huge fan of the aesthetic though. They really need to make some of the stuff like the password entering and some of that type of stuff a little more streamlined.
