looks cool

Edit: Looks really cool.  The art is awesome, you can tell their quality standards are pretty high in that regard.  Hopefully the rest of the game comes along well.

@Ravidrath: I dunno man, they were kinda lambasting him at times for not understanding all the fighting game terms, which seemed a little bit rude. Kinda demonstrated the elitism in fighting game players.

@BassmanPaul: OK, I can see that.

Brad knows things about fighting games, too, so if Brad was asking a question that sounded "dumb" to him, it was really asking for the benefit of his audience, so he shouldn't sound annoyed to answer those kinds of questions.

Communication style aside, though, I think it's much better that we heard about the game from Mike rather than some PR feeb trying to recite bullet points.

Well, it's not BlazBlue, but it looks pretty decent at least.  I really like the art style IF they clean it up and render it a bit better (it's early, I'll let it slide for now), and I'm thrilled to see more non Capcom 2D fighters out there.  I dunno if it's gonna be as deep as ArkSys stuff, but it certainly looks like it could be fun enough to make it worth a download.   The backgrounds and UI of course, need tons of work.

That said, the guys showing this were kinda douchey.  Do they not realize Brad is asking questions for the benefit of the viewers?

Amazing art style, indeed.  They do have some great artists working for them. Reminds me of Guilty Gear, style-wise.

Not sure how I feel about the whole hair-transforming thing. Especially the huge hulk-arms...

The developer sounded very dickish.  There were also a lot of self aggrandizing going on as far as the "AAA quality" of the game.  The fighting game lingo got old too - when Jeff does it, it seems less obnoxious.  But this dude just had zero charisma and wasn't doing his simplistic looking game any justice.  I HEARD a lot about the "systems" but what I saw was a fighting game that looked 10 years old.  Sorry.   (and yes, the artists are clearly talented and I'm sure hard working.  I have the utmost respect.  But I'm sorry, it looks unoriginal and not SUPER smooth)

If their goal is to sell a user friendly "intro" to fighting games with a unique art style, they SHOULD have had a PR guy come out and explain it.  Also if you are trying to cast a wide audience net, maybe throw in characters OTHER than creepy anime girls?

Good for them for being independent, but really?  Is this what we need right now?

So many snobs in the comments. If this is too risque for you then you must be new to video games.

I stopped back into this thread to post this:

 http://www.skullgirls.com/blog/2011/04/05/skullgirls-artistic-origins

Which should shut the "OMG they're just copying anime" imbeciles right the hell up.

Who am I kidding: that would require at least a double digit IQ.

Now that the game is about to release, it seems fantastic. Yeah, it would be nice if the characters didn't have embarrassing panty shots (never found those sexy in my life) and there was some male characters to spice it up, the game itself and the feature set, so much of the design seems so intelligent. Not saying it will change the world or anything, but I am glad it is finally coming out.

There's at least a few males as DLC anticipated, in fact Big Band, Le Duc, and Panzerfaust are all background characters in some of the levels.

The fanservice shouldn't be an issue unless you're also going to complain about nearly every single other fighting game on the market as well. There's like four or five with no fanservicey female characters whatsoever, and most of those are exclusively Japanese(the Touhou fighters, for example). Skullgirls takes it to a hammy extreme.

@CaptainInvictus: Yeah, I guess to the degree this game does it it is at least a bit jokingly.

Have you seen any of these male characters? Any art you could point me too? Only additional characters I have seen are some Squigly and Umbrella art, and some old Double stuff.

Here is a compilation image showing many of the concept art designs, most of them for potential Skullgirls characters. http://i.imgur.com/HF613.jpg

Some of them are not, like Marin or TJ Maximum, but most are. Also, to give you an idea of the "jokingly" this game takes the sexualization, male characters will supposedly have their OWN "jiggle physics". And all that that implies. But yeah, potential male characters include Big Band, who looks like a giant anthropomorphized saxaphoneman, Panzerfaust, who is a huge subordinate of Parasoul's with a tank for a fist(hence the name), Le Duc who I don't know anything about and can't really make much detail on, Brain Drain who is one of the Big Bads of the Skullgirls fluff, Needlehead who looks like some kind of Kingdom Hearts Heartless, and 4Head, who I don't even know if they're a dude or not.

Anyways, there's a ton of thought put into the character designs, and almost all of them are refreshingly interesting. My favorites are Panzerfaust, Big Band, and Sabine(zombie pirate chick with a chainsaw),

@CaptainInvictus: Yeah I might buy this game twice just to support it so Big Band can become a character. Mike Z gave a tease last night saying he may play like Q but good/not crappy.

I am having trouble playing this video. It would occasionally skip ahead or outright reset to the beginning.

Incredible to see how far this game has come along.
