Funny how Rorie is trying not to spoil too much, just to have Brad spout out massive story spoilers at random. Oh GB crew, please never change!

Vinny: "Dark Souls 2 looks so good, I can't wait for it to come out!"

Matt/Brad:"Yeah! We love Dark Souls!"

Now-

Vinny: "Boy, Dark souls 2 is getting really hard but I'm hanging in there."

Matt/Brad: "We're playing Final Fantasy 10..."

Haha yeah. I liked how Brad got angry at Rorie for the Eternal Calm bit after he spoiled the big twist in X.

Is it weird that my only real positive memories of FFX are Blitzball-related?

It was clunky as hell, but better than the actual combat system, which was basically expanded rock-papper-scissors until you reached 3/4 completion.

My 130 hours save in the PS2 version disagree with you. I don't think there is a FF game that I have enoyed more to level up (sphere grid) and fight epic bosses. In FF7 I could defeat ruby and Emeral weapon and do all there was to do in about 50 hours but in FFX (EU aka international version) there are so many bosses like the dark aeons and such tht even after 130 hours I still had more to do.

My goal is to platinum the game but I am now 28 and not 16 like I was then so I don't have as much time.

The combat system is only the best in any FF game. The system where some fiends need magic to defeat, some piercing, some speed etc made it a lot more interesting than earlier FF games where magic was useless and all you ever needed was to hold the attack botton. I never even used magic in FF7 and 8 after the first couple of hours since there is no need to

Not saying X is my favorite because VII is and forever will be my first love when it comes to FF but it is top three.

ha, and I thought my 115 hours was a lot. Agreed! I did so much that in the end tidus was quick attacking for like 99999dmg each time and made the limit breaks not as viable.

A non-negative Final Fantasy quick look? Da fuck?

I enjoyed FFX when it came out, but I remember being sorely disappointed at how linear it was. Even more disappointed when I got the "airship" which ended up just being a fast travel waypoint system.

I've poured 40 hours into the Vita version of the game. FFX has aged pretty darn well, and most all of it holds up, outside of some areas having waaay too high of an encounter rate. There's just so much damn content in the game, and this game even adds the content from FFX International.

In today's market, most of that bonus stuff would end up being DLC. :(

I was lukewarm on Final Fantasy X when it came out, probably because it was so different from the previous three. But I am really, really enjoying it this time around an I'm glad I got it. I really wish they'd at least gotten rid of the distracting, crappy "flat faces" that the characters have sometimes. It was a technical limitation at the time on the PS2 that Kingdom Hearts did too, and I really would have liked to see it fixed at least for the main characters and antagonists.

Gosh, I haven't aggressively frowned at a game this much since I watched Adam Sessler play the first two hours of Kingdom Hearts. I guess I could roll in PS1 and PS3 as well but I cannot understand putting up with anything Final Fantasy on the PS2 character and story-wise even if the combat is apparently well done for the genre.

I am someone who is effectively oil and water concerning Final Fantasy, especially post VII, but I can't imagine this game holding up for most, if not anyone, who weren't into it at the time or games of a very similar execution from that time.

I'd be lying though if I said I'm not indulging in a bit of internet shit-talkin' but nothing quite gets me nearly into this kind of state like Final Fantasy.

When FFX-2 came out I thought it was pure cancer and it completely got under my skin, but now that I'm older (and less insecure and self-serious) it seems like it could be some light and goofy fun.

Or at least it's something trivial and not worth getting angry over.

FFX and FFVII were the only ones I liked. And they ruined the fiction of them both with the sequels and movies, etc.

Edit: And BTW, Brad, Tie-dus.

Man I should really go back and finish FFX, but I don't really remember the smaller details of the game anymore. I don't remember the part they showed in the QL at all initially. I stopped playing when the event catch up to "current",
before heading into Zanarkand.
The game has interesting narrative with most of it being told from the past leading up to the present, the world is ok, story is....fine I guess although dialog, voice acting, localization seems to kill a lot of its potential. There was some serious pacing issue and the amount of grinding and tedious side quests didn't help (not a fan of blitzball, and dodging lighting is even worse.)

I don't like Tidus as a character, Yuna is good, Lulu is good, Auron is just ok initially, but really shine during that part when they meet Yunalesca.

Strangely enough someone bought me FFX-2 long time ago knowing I am a FF fan...still sealed so far.

I remember debating should I pick up the International version of it since I just happen to be visiting Europe near that time, but I didn't because I wasn't sure how region lock works.

X-2 is one of the best games in the series. Fun story, fun battle system, highly replayable. People who don't like it are nerds who take themselves way too seriously (and the story of FFX way too seriously).

I really couldn't stand 10-2 when it first came out because of how completely ridiculous it is. However, after the painfully terrible storytelling of 13 and the wonderfully terrible storytelling of the Dissidia games, I think I'm at a point with the series where I can simply enjoy a thoroughly ridiculous plot.

Go ahead and say it Brad: "Remember when Final Fantasy games weren't totally up their own ass?"

Every time I see X-2 all I can think is that it is certainly a product of its time. A vapid, grating time.

I wanted to play Final Fantasy 10 last year and couldn't find my disc so I ended up emulating it and looked about as nice as this does. Going from 480i to 1080p makes a world of difference on its own. I would pick this up just to get the widescreen and less glitchy graphics, though.

Me neither. I started trying to play them with 7, I thought 7 was boring, so I tried 8 and 9, same thing. Went back to try 13 and it was the same crap with prettier graphics. (bland characters, bad voice acting and weak story)

Final Fantasy put me off JRPGs so I didn't play any for years and years, then Persona 4 turned out to be a breath of fresh air with characters I really liked, an interesting timeline, Pokemon-esque combat/creatures and a story that was full of great little moments and was bonkers in the best possible ways.

I put it down to the JRPG genre not being for me, but actually Final Fantasy is just boring. I accept that the gameplay of JRPGs often becomes grindy and the battles can get tedious, but if there's a good story and the game is full of character I'll stick with it, unfortunately Final Fantasy epically fails at those two things.

They never actually say Tidus' name in the game, which is why you can change it. It's kind of crazy because you probably never notice it, but it's true as far as I know.

I'll put it down as Final Fantasy just not being for you. The earlier entries(pre-X) were well-crafted: it had strong themes, interesting explorable world/setting, diverse cast of characters, and were well written albeit badly translated. They were far from boring as majority would agree and the biggest difference was that the FF series didn't take itself that seriously. For Aeris death, you had "Let's mosey", and for every evil act by Kefka, you had Ultros; the series tread the fine line well in balancing drama(not melodrama) and upbeat and silly fun. So yea, I'll agree with you in the sense that the newer games have become overly cheesy and uninteresting due to newer limitation of rapidly growing technology and the failure to conform to them in a meaningful way but I wouldn't as far as Final Fantasy series as failing at good story and fun.
