Get real, mahn.

Also, a Ryan Davis QL, what a wonderful surprise. I could maybe have used a little more Italian flavor in the form of Vinny.

Nice bit with Kratos photo bombing himself on the preview image (or is it officially called Brad Bombing on GB?)

I doubt this is going to be a very popular opinion but I honestly thought Ready at Dawn's work with the GoW series on the PSP outshines the frustratingly wonky 'God of War III'...

Not being nasty or anything, but could you not have maybe waited a while and been a bit more Community-spirited by letting someone else actually get that quest.

It's not as if you really had anything particularly urgent to say.

Nothing personal, you understand. I've just seen more and more people whose only comment is "Ha, I've already got this quest" whilst there are people directly below them who are still trying to get it.

What's this "another look at God of War collection" mumbling about? These are remastered versions of the PSP GoW games, not God of War 1&2 like with the first collection.

Also, I could certainly use more Kratos, oh yes please!

I agree with what Brad was saying somewhat early on in the video. God of War needs a major re-haul if they want to do another primary console release. Making almost the same game 5 times across 2 platforms in 6 years got pretty tiring. I never finished or got anywhere near close to finishing God of War 3 simply because I had played and beat God of War 1 (loved it) and God of War 2 (liked it but it felt repetitive).

@sirdesmond: Agreed. I liked all three games, but it definitely felt like the same exact thing each time. I'd like to see them either overhaul the series completely, or just stop making them entirely.

I never played it, though it's fun to watch and all, but I've never seen the appeal of the God of War series. Maybe the story? The gameplay seems quite repetitive to me.

But then again, I never played it, so I could be wrong.

Kratos is an irredeemable asshole. It worst thing about the God of War series is that he's the only monster in Ancient Greece you don't get to brutally kill.

I don't know, as long they are good, I don't mind that much. Ghost of Sparta for the PSP was great, I'm not sure if I enjoyed it more than GoW3 (which I enjoyed a lot).

It's challenging, very pretty, very well made, brutal as fuck, very satisfying and has some great controls. Especially apparent when you play stuff like Dante's Inferno, which tries to copy GoW's style and fails on most levels.
It's like with every genre-codifying game.

Yeah, and people still can't get the memo that you are not supposed to sympathize with Kratos since the end of the first game (and maybe Chains of Olympus). Remember that bit when in GoW3 when he kills Poseidon's consort for nothing else than teh lulz? I really think someone on the dev team (further evidence in the achievements name) put that in so people would get that he's a badass, but not a hero.

isn't it weird that most other franchises get nagged at for being "always the same" when God of war Gets praises left and right here, it's literally the exact same stuff every time but with a different story? I've played both God of War I and II and enjoyed them to some degree but when GoW III came out, I found nothing compelling about that except the sharper visuals. The moves look a bit different or the weapon models look different but the rest remains the same. Climb, rip somone's organs out for no reason other than to do soomething gory, jump, shove block around, GRAAAARGH!!! ARIEEEEES!!!! ME ANGRYYY!!!, beat dudes up, repeat.

I realize that I probably come across as extremely negative but I'm serious about this. Other games that get criticised for being "the same" actually do have gameplay changes quite often which get downplayed or forgotten. That bothers me.

It's pretty much a case of bigger and badder, I think. To be frank, Uncharted 2 isn't hilariously different from the first one, but it streamlined the experience, made it prettier and upped the scale of everything maybe 5 times. Same with GoW - you start the series killing the Kraken on a boat trip going awfully wrong and you begin the last chronological game by assaulting Olympus riding on the back of the titan Gaia.

Everything is more polished, better looking and much more crazy with every next game. Not the same can be said about, for example, Black Ops to Modern Warfare 2, which doesn't really up the ante too much in a meaningful way. Or even Killzone 3 to Killzone 2, which while great, was really less exciting for me than its predecessor.

@Ghostiet: But that raises the question of does an irredeemable, unlikeable character make for an interesting character if he has absolutely no relatable qualities. What is there to learn about him? What will the player value about the experience? You can say "killing stuff," but I think a number of comments and critics have suggested that that isn't enough to make them care about the franchise, so I don't think that criticism that can be ignored.

I'll join you in that unpopular opinion. GOW III was all filler no killer. It was cool to look at, but it felt really disjointed and just awkward. It was also completely unmemorable and I barely remember any of the story beats or the battles. GOW II was the pinnacle of the series, followed by the two PSP games. When I finished GOW II, I felt like I just had my mind blown. By the time GOW III was over, I was relieved.

@Mummenschanz

Well, he does have much, much worse enemies for starters. And I always felt that part of GoW's appeal and focus was forcing you into the shoes of a villain protagonist.

And yes, he can be interesting if he is written well. Liking a character isn't based only on how the viewer can relate to him and if he has redeemable qualities. Kratos is pretty much The Punisher. They both have the same motivation - revenge for losing their families and they lose any redeeming qualities almost immediately after they begin their quests. No amount of backstory can justify their actions. Does Punisher have fans? Sure he does, even though he doesn't have a personality even more, just like Kratos, there's only burning rage nowadays.

Hell, half of the comedies and sitcoms out there are based upon having an unlikable protagonist, like Al Bundy in Married With Children. He's no everyman, he's no downtrodden honest man, he's a dumbass sleazebag. Do we like him, is he funny? Yup.

It's all about writing. God of War doesn't have the best script, I'll be honest, but in GoW3 you can see some hints of depth in Kratos at a few points, turning him into a much more tragic character than he really is, especially nearing the confrontation with Zeus.

Also, I think God of War should get some slack in this department, since it's a game taking place in the world of Greek myths. And the originals aren't really less darker than what was portrayed in the games. It's only that people forgot about it after Disney's Hercules. And boy, this guy was a huge dick. Even "benevolent" gods like Athena had their moments, like the Arachne myth. So it's pretty much justified Kratos is such a son of a bitch, there's the matter of rolling with it.

they did. oddly enough, the only HD collection that lets you switch games without exiting to the xmb is the Tomb Raider collection. they added a menu option to each games Main Menu that let you back out to the game launcher. Its a wonder no one else has implemented this yet

This is true, however with it being 6 a.m. and I had been awake for enough time to eat breakfast and turn on my computer, I'm surprise I didn't just say "first".  But I agree and I will humbly bow out of the first comment seekers.  However, I don't ever see a day where the first comment will be anything of substance.

Brad is useless. Complaining about falling without recognizing the "hold" meter is slowly draining and that is why he keeps getting bucked off.
