@CaLe: From what I've seen it's all cosmetic. So unless you can buy levels or disgustingly OP weapons, I don't really see it. it does look generic as shit though.

Jeff's rose tinted glasses of Guild Wars, it was literally the exact same game. I played Guild Wars 1 again at the start of this year and its literally the exact same as Guild Wars 2. MMO style hub areas and instanced fighting levels, Guild Wars 2 just adds more indepth fighting and quest elements making it fun. What was Jeff getting at?

Tell me why I should give a shit about this game if all I'm doing is the exact same thing I've been doing since 2004. Please enlighten me.

I think if Jeff would check out some Keg Brawl (Football/Soccer/Ruby but on ice and with a keg barrel) he might change his mind. :)

What a terrible quick look, a group of clueless idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. If you want to do a quick look at least look at the manaul which is shown to you as soon as you load up the game, right there after you login.

Other than that, I'm pretty sure it's just cosmetics and time savers like exp boosters and whatnot.

Jeff does a poor job showing off the brilliance of this game's combat system. He just stands still, never dodges, and rarely uses his burst ability.

Would anything anyone said actually change your mind? What do you want to hear that would make you think "Oh, ok, that sounds good. Maybe this isn't generic after all."

"MMO" or not, this game does look nice. And any game that has a 'throw snowballs at kids' quest is ok by me.

Giantbomb PLEASE do research when quicklooking MMOs and Fighting games. These games do not work when you go in cold, you end up doing the games a great disservice.

Instead of giving an unbiased view of a game, you instead give naive and straight up wrong information which leaves the developers crying at night that they didn't do a quick look EX and instead left it to 'professionals'.

I mean I guess it's kind of typical I would say this since I really enjoy the game but I feel like you massively undersold it here by not really having played / understood enough to give a proper picture of what's on offer. Some of the most fun you can have is taking part in the more fighting heavy world events where you're just walking along the map and within seconds you're with 20 other dudes fighting a giant boss. Also acting like certain things that are really easy to find out aren't explained to you, like your attributes and what they mean, when they're right there on the character sheet, just mouse over. Missed out on showing the great character creation, and by playing a really straightfoward class in a very WoW like stand-infront of the mob and take unnecessary hits way made the combat seem less fluid and unique than it is. If he had played say Elementalist he'd have had a better chance to learn how different GW2 combat is because fighting that way he'd have died thousands of times.

Just a bit of a shame. I loved GW1 for the same reasons Jeff did and at level 5 was super nonplussed by this game. But if you stick at it and learn the systems there's just such a rich game there. I really hope some people on the fence about whether or not to purchase this game don't use this Quick Look as their decision maker.

One more MMO where the GB crew has no clue what they are doing or talking about...what a surprise. These guys really shouldn't cover this genre seeing as they have no clue what they are doing.

It's obvious half of this thread already loves this game and fears that because the guys in the video "Didn't get it" that everyone else won't like their game. Who cares? If you like it play it.

No need to insult their professionalism, peeps, I doubt there's enough time in the work-day to cover all of GW2's unique systems, let alone demonstrate each of them in a dynamic setting.

You're right, they're not at all... They're much more akin to the sylvans of DnD, with the caveat that they as a race are extremely young and relatively inexperienced. Also, made entirely of plants instead of a little half-assed.

@Xshinobi: It's called a "quick" look for a reason. If they did a bunch of research to find out every detail about the game beforehand, it wouldn't be a "quick" look.

This game looks incredibly flat. I don't know why.

From the perspective of someone who doesn't like playing with people, Guild Wars 2 is a downgrade from the first game, since the first game was just coop with friends.

In other words, Jeff's always been vocal about his negativity against MMO's in general, so you should go into this Quick look with the perspective of "would I enjoy this game if I hate playing with people (including avoiding pvp altogether)?"

Also he did roll outside of combat, and it took up like a quarter of his endurance bar. Although you can roll, it doesn't look like you can do it very often.

The graphic style is a major turnoff. Looks like a thousand generic Korean MMOs.

It's actually half of the bar. There are various buffs, debuffs, and traits that will affect the recharge time, as well as some skills that have a free dodge built in. In general, you should be eyeing the combat so that you can save dodges for severe or life-threatening stuff.

It's part of building your dude, almost all classes have some way to gain the buff "Vigor" that boost "endurance regen".

Seriously? By that logic this video shouldn't even be a Quick Look because it's almost an hour long. Surely Jeff effectively playing PSO2 through a translator, or Brad playing Skyrim for over 50 hours before recording the Quick Look invalidates them, right?

@CaLe: At least they're elves who aren't the prototypical "ancient race" who hold all the secrets to the beginnings of the world or magic or some other bullshit like that. They're a young, almost childish race, out to discover the world after spending time in a hivemind of sorts. Plus, they glow at night which is pretty cool.

I wouldn't have guessed that my first character would be a Sylvari based on my initial impressions of the race, but I was won over after fiddling with the character creation options. They're a lot more interesting than the humans, at least.

Enemies have animations and attack patterns that give the user an indication of when to dodge. You also get an invincibility frame as you dodge. Standing still is fine for early zones... but you started seeing a problem during the QL's Personal Story as well as in WvW combat.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me. I've been apart of this website long enough to know to temper my expectations when Jeff talks about MMOs. It doesn't change the fact that I enjoy the game one iota. The complainers need to calm down a little bit.

Yeah, next time, have someone that has played the game for a prolonged period of time play it. Like Rorie! That would have been cool! He knows what's going on in the game, and he would have been able to very effectively demonstrate it. This QL did a huge disservice to the game, in my opinion, and kind of ignored a whole slew of things which make the game very fun.

@CommanderZx2: There aren't really any people among the GB Staff who truly enjoy an MMO enough to give it a decent showing. Let's be honest though, this isn't Crazy-Underground-Awesome-Fantasy-MMO-You've-Never-Heard-Of-That-Really-Needs-To-Be-Seen-By-People, this is Guild Wars 2. If you're into MMOs, you already know about Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. This isn't new ground, you know? If this is a game you were interested in, you already have more information about this than any Quick Look could provide you with, and this serves as a solid representation of how the final game looks in motion so that, if you were on the fence about it, you can go ahead and see what you need to here before you make your purchasing decision.

If you've been on Giant Bomb for any length of time, you already know what to expect from this Quick Look before you even hit play.

I understand this is y'all's opinion, but that's pretty far from the truth. ArenaNet's art team in best-in-the-business, and environment art absolutely takes a front seat in this game, especially in the vista cutscenes.

@Hatp: There is no Pay2win in guild wars 2.

Every instance where you play against another player (World vs World and Structured PVP) all players stats/gear is scaled to the max lvl 80. You can't pay to unlock skills/traits either.

The only one who liked MMO's left when GB went to CBS (Matt Rorie).

As for research, I agree that Jeff should have been a bit more knowledable, like Ryan was for Rock Band Blitz, but really, he had enough knowledge to play the game, just not to present in a video.

I don't know man, this QL has definitely killed any buzz I had for GW2. Then I see that apparently this QL is terrible, but I don't think it's that bad. Regardless of any lack of enthusiasm or any additional 'systems' Jeff didn't cover...It's still totally an MMO-ified Guild Wars, which now I know I don't really want. Still, I've got it coming tomorrow (Couldn't get it digitally, my card was apparently 'invalid', so thanks for that) so I can see for myself.

Everything I've read makes it seem so much more exciting than this. I was reading UK PC Gamer this week and was getting pumped again...We'll see, at the very least I'll have a new world to explore, with added incentives.

The story quests have been my least favorite part, but bouncing around a zone for hours stumbling into quests and group events has been a blast. It would have been good to show that!
