I have played multiple games where "Don't forget to delete your logs" is the number one golden rule, and I have loved all of them.

So I am intrigue by this game, but was kinda lost with the commands used to interact with the game's DOS-like interface. Is Hacknet pretty good at teaching you these things?

@ghost_cat: It's UNIX, not DOS. I think if you have experience, obviously the commands are second nature. Otherwise, it'll take a bit of a rampup. It's why they've added a visual component to browse the directories, etc. You can type faster than you can click (at least I can), so this is kind of a cool way to get into command line stuff if it does pique your interest.

It seems the progression bug was fixed. Just in case anyone else got stuck on the last quest like I did.

@dragonbomb: Cool, thanks! This stuff have always been interesting to me, but never sure why I find them intimidating. I'll give Hacknet a shot.

I really like this game's interface. Easy on the eyes and those faux progress sequences are slick.

How convenient, I've been binging on the show Mr. Robot (which is fantastic) and thinking to myself, "I kind of want to play a hacking game now, but what is there besides Uplink?"

Fun quicklook of a neat looking game. Mac and linux ports are coming out some time soon, so on to the steam wishlist this thing goes.

I was disappointed that not deleting the log files did not cause any issue for me. Although the transitions when big events happen are pretty epic!

Mr Robot told me everyone hacks in Linux!

Obviously this is the right way to hack, quick-styyyyle.

This seems pretty cool but the mix of mouse control and typing is a bit odd and super weird to see a hacking game based on MS DOS because I grew up learning and using DOS.

"They didn't expect people to have this kind of access." "They shouldn't have had this kind of access!"

Austin's indignant response to fake-Apple's security measures got a good chuckle from me.

Also it's irritating to me how having notes open takes up vast amounts of memory for each note. I know that there's substantial amounts of fakery going on in this game, but the notes memory stands out to me as the most egregious example because of just how contrived it is to reduce the memory you have available.

I loved Uplink and have also been interested in this since it popped up on Steam. Only thing stopping me from purchasing is wondering how linear/replayable the progression is. Uplink is a sandbox that keeps the story on hold until you trigger an event. Also I really liked the program and gateway upgrades in Uplink.

Having watched Mr. Robot this season has me itching for a new hacker game.

Played this for a while but didn't get this far, kinda makes me wanna dive back in again.

The one thing I'll say is that Uplink had the whole aspect of doing missions for money so you upgrade your own equipment. These cyber-heists were really exciting in that you got to spend that money. Hacknet doesn't have that which is both a good and a bad thing.

I'm not a command prompt expert, but the lack of directories is driving me a bit crazy, it's like every file is floating on the surface including system files, speaking of which does the hacker you're playing as not have his system files backed up somewhere, like on a cd?
It would be cool if they found a way for you to perform your own hack instead of running someone elses software, maybe it does that later on, i haven't found the hacker game for me but i'll try this one out.
