While fetch may be the best character in infamous second son, thats a VERY low bar.

Suckerpunch is really good at making worlds and the tech side of games, but the need new writers badly

I feel like I'm the only one who enjoyed the graffiti in Second Son. Layering the stencils was neat and felt like a more honest depiction than any graffiti mechanic I'd encountered prior. And the Bansky-esque designs were generally pretty clever.

Does Brad even finish games that he doesn't have to review anymore? I'm not surprised he didn't finish InFamous Second Son, it seems like he drops off of everything in favour of playing more dota.

One of the worst Quick Looks Giant Bomb has ever done. They start with an annoying amount of disinterest, add in a healthy amount of bitching and moaning, then throw in some misinformation to top it all off! (it's $15, not $20).

Nothing about this right. The battle arenas are great. I hate to be "that guy" but if you actually play this game WELL the combat becomes super exciting and tense. Most people who played through Second Son on expert mode probably know what I'm talking about.

I think I've had about all I can stand of cynical, whiny Jeff. ANY game can be made to look boring and terrible by adding two apathetic, monotonous voices say "yeah..." and "hmmm..." all the time.

Thank god for Dan and Metal Gear Scanlon, right now that feature and UPF are the only things keeping my subscription alive.

I didn't honestly come into these comments and expect someone to be defending battle arenas, but hey what do you know? That's cool that someone enjoys them though. I personally think they're lazy game design.

The combat in second son was pretty good, I'll agree. But super exciting and intense? Come on man.

Also, don't call someone whiny when your comment is kind of whiny itself. The guy doesn't like battle arenas and videos games with padded out bullshit that's been clogging up the open world genre for years now. That's not being cynical, that's just his opinion.

Jeff said that he REALLY liked Second Son in the video so it's not like he has any personal vendetta with the series like you are making it sound. FL just didnt' grab him the same way SS did because it's a lot of the same side bullshit and there is only one power and no karma system. I don't get how that's being cynical and whiny.

I can totally understand Jeff not being too into this, but mix Jeff's negative impressions with Brad sounding half asleep saying saying "HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" negatively over and over and you get kind of an awful watch.

@devil240z: I doubt it. Gameplay is virtually identical. The story and characters are a lot better and it's the best looking game I've ever seen but not sure that would be enough if you didn't enjoy the gameplay of the first two games.

For me, Second Son is probably my GOTY so far. It is repetitive and gameplay is very last-gen but it just grabbed me with it's graphics, characters and story and, like Jeff, I 100% it and will probably play it again before the end of the year.

@cdub901: You probably have a point about my post coming off as whiny, but it's something that has worn on me for a while. I usually don't like to take such a negative tone but I guess I thought why not fight fire with fire, you know?

As for Jeff not having some kind of vendetta against Second Son? Yeah, but that doesn't excuse both him and Brad coming into the Quick Look sounding super deflated and uninterested. I mean there have been Quick Looks of some truly bland and terrible games where they've sounded more engaged.

One thing I won't budge on is the misinformation. I know Quick Looks are supposed to be very casual and not necessarily informative, but misrepresenting the price of a game just seems careless and lazy.

Heh, he seems new to apathetic QLs. It happens. Also, Jeff did say that stuffing the game full of combat sections as just that isn't strong enough on itself compared to Second Son which he enjoyed more because of the context to the combat scenarios.

I'll just add my opinion: the shooting gameplay in Second Son is really boring, and they nailed what the combat loop is like. I remember liking Infamous 2 more. It seems to a series trope almost of too many enemies shooting at you and seeing the red before you get to retaliate because the characters aren't as nimble.

Not so sure about the sour notes on this. Granted I loved Second Sons, but I am digging this game. The graffiti is sorta annoying, but everything else is a lot of fun, especially the battle arenas which get crazy intense at higher waves.

It seems particularly good at a $15 value. It makes me sorta hope we get the same one with for Eugene and maybe even Augustine?

I'm not super far in so far, but I'd say it's an okay game. If you've got $15 and liked Second Son, it's not a waste. So far the story missions are not very good and I'm not sure about the arena stuff. I've only unlocked the first two so far and I did all the side stuff before moving on with the story. The side missions (or lack thereof) were a huge disappointment in SS and are not great here, either. I wish the lumens were a bit more puzzly and not just laid out on the map. I'm hoping things pick up in the main story and am curious to see what the two "locked" skill trees are. I'm guessing rockets will be one of them.

Also, if you want to see Dan Ryckert in pink Adidas being a creep, this is the game for you. Not sure if I'd have noticed him in the game if he hadn't mentioned it on the Bombcast, but now I can't help but see it. It's kinda weird.

I thought it was well worth the $15 I paid and I'm not even a huge fan of the series. It'd be cool if they added more arenas in the future. I never usually like those types of modes but it really worked for me and I'll definitely be coming back to it even after my platinum.

Yeah, same here. The game seems somehow even more visually stunning than Second Son. That might justify the $15 price tag alone.

Depends on what 'didn't do much for you'.

Infamous 1/2 had really shallow/lacking story/characters/writing in general. This actually has some pretty strong characters and an ok story.

I found the powers to be a lot more varied then in the past two games. The past games had different powers that all basically ended up doing the same thing/fell in same categories. This games powers fall in similar categories, but each category has a unique spin that makes the powers act uniquely. For example smoke power has more stuns/the movment is more of a dodge, where the neon powers are about slowing downtime/running really fucking fast.

In the end the combat is structured the same in all the games. I suggest checking out the Second Son quick look; it shows off the game pretty well(and doesn't have a shitty tone like this quick look).

Am I a bad person for not liking how the neon looks? It's not that I think it's ugly... it's just that it's too extravagant. Pretty for about 4 seconds and then it's like forcing down too much of a really flavorful food.

Eh, the Quicklook seemed fine to me guys and gals. :-P The Battle arenas seem kind of like they take the "fight way too many enemies all at once and hide up in elevated areas for health regen" Infamous combat system and separate it from the open world elements that tend to mitigate the flaws. Not such a big fan of this new separation (and Jeff really isn't a fan of it either , evidently)... but I thought Seattle was a lot of fun to explore in the previous game. I also did all the side activities in Second Son, and I really liked the Fetch character. So, eh. I'll buy the DLC. If it's six hours long after the story, races, and collectibles, then it is almost half the length of Second Son for 1/4th the price. That's not a bad deal at all, even if it does have some wrinkles here or there to iron out.

Also, I never knew that the bearded gangster I was fighting was Dan! That's freaking awesome. :-) Good for him! I'm going to enjoy it more now that I know to keep an eye out for his character model. Freaking wild, dude.

Oh, and here's to hoping that battle arenas die off in this DLC and don't come back for the next game. Honestly, Infamous is at its best when the developers merge world transversal with weird power sets and bizarre enemies. Shoving fighting into a contained area like this just isn't in the spirit of the thing. If Sucker Punch really wants to do something fun yet focused, maybe they should take a page out of Infamous 1's playbook and make some new platforming sections equivalent to that game's sewer levels. I'd rather have a scripted adventure through a base or sewer than rescue "X" number of hostages in the Thunderdome battle arena.

Ok so, I started the video with audio but then quickly turned it off and just watched it as if I was watching a silent gameplay video. Although I really enjoyed Infamous: Second Son, I don't know if this'll warrant a purchase. It just doesn't seem interesting enough to justify the price, at least right now.

Now, as for the video, I feel compelled to throw my voice in with the chorus: The first 10 minutes was a running diatribe bitching and moaning about Infamous: Second Son, and in the first minute it's stated that at least one of them didn't like Infamous: SS at all. The overall tenor of many of these videos has become really terrible, starting out with complete disinterest in the game being reviewed, sometimes gaming as a whole, and that sets the foundation for the entire video. It's like half the staff at Giant Bomb would rather be doing anything other than gaming because gaming now has become blase.

And honestly, that's why I haven't pulled the trigger on a subscription. I don't want to pay for a site where they treat their entire subject matter like "ho hum, it's THIS again *yawn*".

Just chiming in to kinda echo some others' thoughts about how bad this quick look is. Felt like they just wanted to record some video so they could talk some smack on it lol. I'm all for constructive criticism, but they couldn't even get the price of the game right. I haven't played it yet, so it very well could be a bad game but based on the reactions I'm seeing from those who have played it, it cannot possibly be as bad as GB is making it out to be in this QL.

The ridiculous judgmental "hmmmmm" noises coming from Brad every half minute or so are anything but productive to the conversation. I believe he was approaching double-digit hmmmm's in this QL alone.

I thought Second Son was kind of a B/B+ game, and the best part of it was Fetch, so I'm hoping I will find some enjoyment from this add-on DLC. This QL doesn't have me super confident I will love it though.

@amyggen: people are getting overly sensitive. Also they did give it a chance if they're playing it. Guess we're back to gb staffers not being able to show their true opinions and having to pull their punches and act goofy about things all the time (i.e. vinny)

i suppose many of you were looking for some dumb fun in the QL even if the game is mediocre aka: the last tinkerer. But maybe this dlc is so bland that they couldn't manage that? Can't blame them.

The thing is though that Jeff liked Second Son a lot but doesn't like this. The combat arenas are bad, Jeff isn't the only one who thinks so.

And it's not like they gave the £20 price as fact, he didn't remember and said that he thinks it's £20.

Even Kevin over at Gamespot gave it a lukewarm review.

I liked Second Son a fair bit. Not as much as the first two but enough to finish almost everything in the game. This game, including everything I've seen about it before this QL doesn't look all that great. The combat in SS was fine but I thought it lacked some of the punch from the first two. But getting around the city was great and the story was engaging.
