This game seems fucking awesome. It's nice to see a shmup that is manageable to play (i.e., not super crazy difficult), and actually has a cool aesthetic to it. That is to say, not little girls (as was mentioned by Patrick).

This is an amazing shooter for the pc, really glad I picked it up.

I have been eyeballing this on Steam for a while now, but it's officially on my To Buy list now. Everything about this is amazing and ridiculous which are acceptable game attributes.

Uuuuuuggggghhhh this game looks like it would be soooo awesome. That is until you start playing the game and realize its just some stupid boring old shooter. Damn it, so much great art and weirdly intriguing setting and such on played out genaric gameplay D':

I love it when games like these plays the alternate history stuff perfectly straight.

I mentioned Inca a few pages ago, sorry for repeating myself but I just think it deserves another mention because of how similar it is in background story and presentation (not at all in gameplay though), where you take the role of an Inca indian, piloting a golden pan flute shaped space ship fighting Spanish conquistadors with space faring galleons, also seemingly played straight, though something might have been lost in the translation from french to english.

Man I totally love this game's premise, story, and heart! But...fuck this game it's a bullet-hell shooter. This might have shot to the top of my list for most disappointing game of 2011. The shooting on its own seems fine, the other half seems really great but this game's design doc was doomed from day one making it a fucking 2D shoot-em-up game. Who knows maybe that wasn't always the intent but who here would have much preferred an adventure game? A non-anime JRPG with this story? I know I do and good for those people who enjoy it but man what a waste.

This is the kinda thing I love most about Giant Bomb XD Play hit games if you must, but it's always more fun when you dig up stuff like this or that "Cargo: Quest for Gravity" game with the naked midgets and the tiki mask gods. You guys are practically the only gaming site who give love to the more obscure games on Steam, and the only guys I've ever seen who've played through some Xbox Live Indies. Can you please make this officially "a thing"? Like have a week every once in awhile dedicated to Quick Looks highlighting weird, awesome little indie games on Steam, Xbox Live or PS Minis? You guys seem be able to find awesome ones. 
 
(I've seen a $10 on Gamersgate recently called B.A.D: Battle Armor Division that looks like an unofficial sequel to the SNES games Cybernator or Metal Warriors. Heck, even that name sounds like came from the 90's. I wish you guys could Quick Look all the games like that out there.)
 
Also, that reminds me, the Xbox Live "Indie Summer Uprising" is coming up again. I hope you guys are on top of that; those Quick Looks are guaranteed to find some gold.

I like everything about this game except the gameplay.

Nice graphics... I'm gonna have to check this out.

Cave has one series with underaged girls, Deathsmiles. All their other games are spaceships or full grown persons, and while these games haven't been released in the us, most are region free if you really want to get your fix. Or you could play the excellent ios versions. It's odd to slam a company over two games.

As a Spaniard I have to say this premise is ridiculous.

Oh yeah, the Challenge levels you unlock a little further in are brilliant. Perfect 'one more go!' material as you edge ever closer to achieving whatever it is you need, be that 'survive for 15 seconds', 'score 300,000 points in 60 seconds' or 'fly through all the rings (whilst avoiding  a billion bullets)'. 

Oh, also, yes please! Raptor and Tyrian are two of my most nostalgic gaming memories. I can pretty much count my memorable shooter experiences on one hand. Gradius, R-Type III, Tyrian 2000 and Raptor. I've played many more than that, but those are the only ones that stand out in my mind. It's not just nostalgia, either, I last played both Tyrian and Raptor less than five years ago, and they held up!
 
It's interesting to note that both Raptor and Tyrian had pretty extensive upgrade mechanics that rewarded you for taking risks to collect more cash, and then let you sit around inbetween levels and ponder what upgrade path to pursue. You know, like pretty much every single modern game tries to do, whether they pull it off or not.

While it's great to feature 18 minutes of the awesome Jamestown being played, listening to Patrick and Jeff drone on incessantly, about the bizarre setting for 16 minutes was dull. It's a fantasy bullet hell shooter that mixes the facts of the real life mystery behind Virginia Dare and the tragedy of the Roanoke colony, within an alternate fantasy universe in which the setting is Mars. LOL! LOL! LOL! Dude! Bro! LOL! LOL! LOL!
Get over it!

There is no more sanctimonious person than an American worked up over depictions of underage girls in Japan. Is there a massive pedophilia problem in Japan? No. So don't you think the argument that Deathsmiles promotes pedophilia is directly analogous to any number of arguments regarding the promotion of violence in video games?

Complaining loudly and adamantly at every opportunity about your opposition to something is called 'moral preening' and it isn't attractive. Yeah, we're all opposed to pedophilia. Do you want some kind of award? I don't especially like those depictions and I still wish you guys would shut up.
