Quick Look: Jamestown

Bullethell or SHMUP? 
The first time they mentioned the sheer ludicrousness of the setting, it was hilarious. The fiftieth time they went back to the same joke it got pretty stale just like the game.

Haha...did anyone else notice (it is at 1:21) that Chapter 1 starts on Guy Fawkes' Day?

I could not stop laughing when they were talking about showing this game to a history professor.

This is wonderful. The crazy premise is awesome, kind of like Coktel Vision's classic 90's FMV series Inca, and it's a lovely art style they've got here.

The music in this game is fantastic.

Well the game looks excellent, and the price tag is very reasonable. It's just a shame that this game doesn't have online support since playing local on a computer is a bit awkward.

This isn't bullet hell. This is just a shmup.

Sweet. Made it through a video without it just deciding to stop loading, or just gettin duder after a couple min! <3 Things are lookin up.

Like the setting, but I hate these type of games. If it was a jrpg then I'd definitely be interested.

2 quick looks of 2 shooters each with 5 levels.

I just wanted to point this out.

I like the set up, but yeah, I wish it were a JRPG instead of a shmup.

I got this right before E3 and kept thinking that Jeff has to play this.

I freakin' love this game, I don't play many bullet hell shooters but this game's challenge mode will actually take you by the hand and make you better if you let it. I started out at Normal and now I can tackle divine pretty well! Of course you have to play on harder difficulties to actually advance beyond the two first levels of the game.

GAME OF THE YEAR MATERIAL.. for a crazy dude.

The game of this type that I played was DemonStar, never tried anything else :/

Also, there's totally an embiggen icon, how amazing.

They should put this out on Dreamcast

seriously this autoplay shit has got to go, i'm only commenting on this vid cuz it's the one i was brought to while I was trying to read comments on the one I'm actually interested in.  first redesign function i've ever not liked on a whiskeymedia site.

They seem to spend their time decrying the premise instead of scrutinizing the gameplay for anyone who might want to play this game: is it a good shooter?

Now, there should be a bullet-hell shooter on Jonestown... (Instead of coins, pick up Kool-Aid)

Good quicklook. I also wish there was a demo for this. The PC needs more bullet hell shooters of this type.

Looks awesome, but I have to correct Patrick on one thing, Cave's shooters arn't all based on little girls, in fact only maybe three (the two Deathsmile games for sure) have them. 

Oh yeah, the Challenge levels you unlock a little further in are brilliant. Perfect 'one more go!' material as you edge ever closer to achieving whatever it is you need, be that 'survive for 15 seconds', 'score 300,000 points in 60 seconds' or 'fly through all the rings (whilst avoiding  a billion bullets)'. 

Would have been a buy for me....if it had online co-op not just local....oh well...

I loved Xevious, but that was about the last shmup I really played. You guys make this game looks great, gonna check it out.

Very glad this isnt a JRPG, love the mix of Metal Slug and Giga Wing.
Would be keen to see an XBLA release, I have followed this for a while and it runs terribly on my netbook

Deathsmiles, Deathsmiles II, Esprade and Muchi Muchi Pork! have little girls. The Deathsmiles games only have little girls though, whereas the other two have one little girl each and a couple of other characters.

At any rate it's kind of upsetting to me that they've gained that reputation. A lot of their older games have no girls in them at all, in fact, and are still very good.

This game bridges the gap between Saints Row and Red Faction, AFAIK.

Looks pretty rad.  I'm with Jeff on a new Raptor or Tyrian though, those games were amazing and still hold up today.

There need to be more new SHMUPS like this.

as much as how awesome the ingame sprites look, the cutscene art is just hilariously awesome. Reminds me of the art of old pc edutainment games like Oregon Trail or even stuff from old Monkey Island games. Amazing stuff.

okay, this quick look has sufficient amounts of duke nukem.

At first I thought, "Who the hell is John Smith, and when did he start working at Giant Bomb?" Then the video started and I realized that. I enjoy the whimsicalness of this game! Any chance of an XBLA release?
