Something about this game just screams "Buy me when I'm $30!" Not sure what, but it looks like a good last-gen game more than something that I'd be playing now.

Agreed. I tried the demo and the combat seemed like it could get kind of interesting in the late game, but everything else doesn't do anything for me. Art style especially.

Looking forward to watching this. Already pre-ordered as the demo was fun if not particularly groundbreaking, but very much still interested in how these guys' opinions have gelled over the course of their time with the full game.

Also, it's great that they're willing to tailor their teaching style to the pupil. As uncommon as it may be, stabbing with lightning just resonates with some people--it's a proven knowledge retention technique along with its partners in education, fire punching and ice bludgeoning. I'm excited to hear that it's finally getting some traction with a broader audience.

The demo initially evoked thoughts of a third-rate, 10 year old, original Xbox game (in terms of cutscenes, character models and walking animation). Didn't like it at first, tbh - especially with the presentation of U.I and Menus. However, once I left the initial dungeon and into the world proper, my opinion of the game changed somewhat - not many games these days that dare be that colourful and bright and there are plenty of modern-day conventions integrated (open-world, player-driven choice etc) . Still on the fence, but have warmed to it.

It's because it's a game with open world elements being made by people with pedigrees coming out in what are traditionally fairly dry months as far as high-profile video game releases are concerned. Thus, some people have hype. I personally do not. If this game had come out in 2007, maybe the views would be less divisive but as it stands now I am in the "wait for the steam sale" camp.

The other game Jeff was thinking of that took off part of your Mana bar like that? I think it is Shadowrun. When you summoned minions or trees of life, your bar just went down a few pips.

There are some things I like about this game (what little of Elder Scrolls there is, and the vestiges of "real" RPGs), but there's a lot I'm not liking or am unsure of.

"Lore Stones"? Really? That is not how you put lore in a game. And witha collection mechanic wrapped up, what kind of world-building is that? Have books and history to be discovered like Skyrim. Have the level design tell a story like Dark Souls. A rock that spews random narration at you is not lore.

The art style (and this is of course subjective) is far too cartoony, if not quite WoWesque. If you want an epic, make it look epic. If you want serious, or deep, or dark, or emotional at all, don't have fluorescent purple everywhere.

And then there's that combat. IDk how well deep RPG mechanics go with Fable fighting.

Which brings up another: deep RPG mechanics these are not (no Brad, three small ability trees is not "a lot to take in"). I've seen hack n slahers with bigger trees. And if there's no consequence to your choices, there's no point. I'm not against re-speccing, but if it's something to be done for a pittance at the drop of a hat, why have you chosen at all? Don't get me started on those skill, either. When I saw that screen (the one with mercantile and detect hidden on it), I got hopeful for a minute. It reminded me of the old-school RPGs from days of yore. Then Jeff said he'd maxed them all out. Ugh. If I get them all, again, you've stolen any meaning or consequence from my choice.

I guess I'm just a grumpy old traditional RPG player, disappointed that the Morrowinf lineage isn't more apparent. At least I'm playing through The Witcher 2 for the first time (just built a new PC that can really run it on very high settings) to scratch that itch.

I have a feeling that Jeff might have not gotten burned out after 60 hours if he picked more abilities other than "my hitting X now works better". Even with my time in the demo... alot of those abilities are good. I hope he at least tried them out.

I love Giantbomb, but I have come to take how they treat RPG's with a grain of salt.

As far as Art style goes I've always liked games that are bright, cartoony and vibrate while also having Mortal Kombat levels of people getting hacked apart and massacred. Fable did it well and Mark of Kri especially did it great with it looking like a Disney movie where people get their skull bashed into rocks. So this game looks pretty neat to me.

The game looks pretty cool overall. I'll pick it up as long as the PC version is stable.
