Quick Look: Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise

At first glance, I was /facepalming at this game.

By the end of the QL, I was downloading it on Steam...

I don't think I've ever made such a drastic change in my opinion of a game so quickly. There's something here, this game has... let's call it "character".

That Master Mo fight reminded me of Riggs and Murtaugh vs Jet Li at the end of Lethal Weapon 4.

They should do more videos of this! It's entertaining to watch.

Damn, now I really want to see them beat Mo. I'd watch a Breaking Brad: Vinny & Ryan Edition.

@Bakumatsu: I love Jade Empire. I always got a kick of being a woman and making Dawn Star uncomfortable by hitting on her all the time. :)

This game makes me wanna replay Jade Empire...

The advertising blurb of the game on Steam says there are 28 levels so no, this quicklook didn't show two thirds of the game.

Looks like a poor man's Tales of gameplay with a poor man's SF4 aesthetic. Not bad.

The sound and aesthetic design reminds me a lot of the Sega Saturn era. It doesn't exactly look spectacular, but the animations look decent enough. The sound effects vary from passable to downright horrible though - the "dizzy" sound kinda hurt my ears. Other than that, it looks like it could provide some local co-op fun if I'd ever hook my PC up to the TV and get another gamepad for it.

Ryan needs to FADC more

Pretty much this.

This game looks dull to play but rather entertaining to watch. Could be a fun time-waster, but I also wouldn't mind an endurance run of this.

Perhaps if Ryan and Vinny put up more of a defensive effort Master Mo wouldn't have been such a problem.

My DBZ reference quota has been met today thanks to Vinny.

The Combat seems too button mashy & the co-op camera is all over the place, luckily I have no-one close to me that has this game or I would hear a stream of curse words.

The design and look is very similar to SFIV

I mean no offense to Ryan but he could have explored a bit more with the game. You do a lot more damage if you make shorter combos by pushing the attack button instead of holding. The holding is more for breaking guards.

Vinny: "Let's get 'em" *Runs into the group of enemies*

Ryan: *Backs away*

Vinny: *Gets decked*

Ryan: *Fights a straggler*

Ryan's the strategist between the two of them.

Not a bad twist on this gametype... I hope this system shows up in a better game one day.
