Quick Look: Lethal League

I find it ironic that they love this, but trash talk Super Smash Bros so much.

Edit: I feel like this came off more negative than I meant it to. I think this game looks awesome, and I'm not hating on Jeff, I just thought it was funny.

Minimalist eSports?

This game is very quickly becoming my favorite mini-eSport/vSport - It's awesome!

Man I'm so glad death sports are a part of videogaming again.

I'm loving the recent trend of indie local multiplayer stuff. This and Gang Beasts in the same week or so, plus I still haven't played any Sportsfriends. Time to get some friends round I guess.

Dan really likes Smash Bros. I also don't see much of a mechanical similarity between this and Smash.

Anyways, this game looks really fun. As does Smash Bros.! :)

The 'up-close swing battles' don't actually work out too well because of the parry system.

I really hope Sony snaps this up for the PS4. I have a good PC but I want to play this on a couch with a bunch of people shouting at me.

I agree this game looks awesome as hell.
I just find it funny how much Jeff hates SSB and this game "borrows" pretty much the entire UI.

jeff just likes to trash talk everything without thinking which is kind of annoying, he speaks in declarative statements and hyperbole as much as dan sometimes. he actually gave brawl 4 stars, it was one of the first reviews on the site

@xeirus: I'm tired of Smash Brothers but this looks really cool. They strike me as pretty different games, despite the obvious influence of Smash on the menus.

The soundtrack to this game is amazing.

Online multiplayer is essential and I am very happy it's in this game.

Good to hear Kunio-Kun references.

P.S. If anyone is interested in buying a 4-pack on Steam I'm interested in buying one of them.

@xeirus: The menues and the UI is pretty much Smash Bros., I agree with that. I've always been under the impression that Jeff is pretty much indifferent towards Smash in a "it's not for me anymore" kind of way (he gave a pretty glowing review to the first Smash over at GS!), not that he hates it or anything. I'm sure he'd still give the new Smash game a 3 or a 4 out of 5 if he reviewed it.

Anyways, hope this game comes to the PS4. I don't really have a way to play local co-op PC games. Not that interested in playing a game like this online.

@crysack: 90% of people don't know how to parry though so you can just run up on them and ruin their day. Which isn't really their fault since the game doesn't tell you how it works anywhere.

I am disappointed that Online multiplayer is ball Tag mode ON by default.

I suppose the real question is why everyone feels that they have to defend super smash brothers or any video game for that matter it's just an opinion somebody has, if you happen to like X game and somebody else doesn't oh well just deal with it

I thought this was going to be local only but now that I know it has online I'm tempted to get it. Jeff is absolutely right that I'm in no position to get 4 people in front of my pc to play this game.

It is disappointing that games like Towerfall and Sports Friends have no online multiplayer, I've got them both on PS4 but have no means to actually compete with people.

Of course, that's a two-way street. If you DON'T like a game and someone else does, don't go and insult their intelligence or personal tastes. That makes you look like an ass.

Although people get prickily about Jeff's opinions, I've never seriously seen or heard him do the latter. In the vast majority of Quick Looks he doesn't like, he'll state "I think this game is lousy" or "I'm not liking what they're doing with this game." The only times he really goes off on other people's opinions is when it's so over-the-top that you know (or SHOULD know) that he's not taking it very seriously -- i.e., Dynasty Warriors or Yoshi's Island. ;)

Loving the hell out of this game, so satisfying. Kid cousins have been begging for me to have a local mp game, and this has been perfect to play against them. Whole family likes it.

The song they like, during the first versus match, is actually from the "Corporate Lifestyle Simulator" soundtrack, which they played on UPF a while back, and they liked it then, too.

It's a terrific soundtrack, and y'all should check it out. The track in question is called "Scream" and the album is called "Zombies" from bignic.

Getting a real 'The World Ends with You' vibe from the art style and soundtrack, which I highly approve of.

I don't get it, he is acting like he has no clue of any of the mechanics here. They usually don't act this clueless on these type of videos.

I like that Klaus Veen track. It could easily be a Todd Edwards track, it's so similar.

Having the same UI is alot different to having the same gameplay....

I think the ball should always be dangerous by default. Otherwise you can just go wail on the ball with no consequences until it's been tagged by the other player. Makes it too easy to do stuff like smiley dude's side switching super.

It's the worst trend in indie vs games. They really, really need to start implementing online because most people don't have access to all of their friends in a way that they can actually play those games with them. As someone who's moved around a lot and hasn't had a lot of time where I've had my gaming buddies in the same STATE as me let alone same city, it sucks that Online isn't a priority for these folks. Nice to see online is in this. Hopefully that shows other devs that online is a feasible feature to implement and they'd probably sell a lot more if they could make the game playable for those who don't have the means to play local for whatever reason (and there are many potential reasons).

Weird how people chose this as a place to complain about Jeff's opinion on Super Smash Bros.

Also Jeff doesn't hate Smash Bros.... He gave Brawl 4 stars, but stated it's shortcomings with:

He probably just doesn't have crazy Nintendo nostalgia... and he is in a very fortunate place of having a large group of video-games-people around him all the time, many of us aren't.

At the start of each round after the first one, the person who died first in the last one gets a small window where only they can hit the ball. Which is why Jeff's "jump in" strategy kept failing; I assume his colourblindness played a part in not noticing!

That's pretty much Dan in a nutshell. If it's not Metal Gear or wrestling, he doesn't have much space in his brain for other things. And I love it.
