The platforming is a mess in this game, and even Media Molecule levels shows examples of this. Prime example is when you're trying to scale steps, it doesn't feel smooth at all and it really takes me out of the moment.
It's a shame, it really is, because I'm in love with the  concept LBP brought to the table.

There are some gravity modifiers that help sort of resolve that issue. I don't know how effective it could be, but I hear increased gravity makes things more responsive.

God why am I feeling like I don't get it? This looks like a collection of horrid homebrew games. Maybe fun to screw around with but generally a lot of effort for minimal results. The gameplay mechanics are just horrific, and don't make me interested in the re-re-remaking of Super Mario or Lunar Lander or Gradius or whatever. Just seems a huge waste of time.

I thought I was the only person who did the 'whoosh' thing! Do you wave your hand over your head when you use it in conversation? :)

I don't know what's better in the Titanic one: the inventive engrish, or Vampire Helena Bonham Carter.

LBP 1 was the only reason I bought a PS3 in the first place. Lots of good games come out since then, but this thing really reminds me why I now favor the PS3 over my beloved 360. PS3 exclusive games are fricken great at times.

I like how Jeff said; "people made Gradius in the first one, but you could see the strings in a lovable way." And I think that is exactly it, people were always down on LBP that this game was more floaty than Mario, or the Resident Evil level someone made wasn't scary... Or that Gradius didn;t play exactly like Gradius. But it wasn't supposed to be.

This game was a toy box, and was even made to look like one. It wasn't the feature high budget film version, it wasn't even the Broadway play version, it was the fun make believe street performer "Punch and Judy" version. You were supposed to get the theme/feel of the game, but it wasn't going to replicate the game (if you wanted that just go buy the actual game). It was playing with action figures. It was the charm ,the strings, the "how did they do that?".

i think this game will more so address that crowd that didn't quite "get it" in the first game and really wow them even more; but I always liked even the awkward not quite right versions in the first one. It was never about being the $80 Shaun White ski hat your mom could buy you; it was seeing what the $80 hat would look like if you Grandma went to the craft store and made it herself with yarn. Thats what I loved about it and still do :) Having a couple of awesome games made on top of that is just icing on the cake!

I get where you are coming from about the nostalgia.   Some people need to let it go.

With that said, this game is meant for this type of thing and that is why some of this stuff is disturbingly impressive.  Being able to take a platformer with custom levels and turn it into a fully functioanl dual joystick shooter is really awesome.

I'm not one for homebrew stuff either, but this stuff is impressive.

@lasafrog:  you certainly have a valid point. *most* of the media molecule levels aren't so great, and that goes double for the community levels. but the level creator/toy box is where the real heart of the game is. that, and some of the astounding ingenuity of some of the community creators who have made stunning, awe-inspiring stuff. there is a TON of chaff mixed in with the wheat, you're right. so it's not so puzzling, this game's just not your cup of tea,  no big deal. as a level creator, i can't get enough of it.  i'd never recommend this game to someone who wasn't into building/creating stuff with that amazing toybox. but you're also right on another point, it *is* a waste of time.   all games are. it's not like gamers are out there saving the world, we're just having fun.   ...and wasting time.
