Quick Look: Long Night

And this is when you realize that July 2014 is quite possibly the most boring video game month in recent memory.

That being said, bad games make the best quick looks!

This game looks kinda garbagey, but it made for a delightful quicklook

Damn, a Tail of the Sun reference? This Dan guy's OK.

This game seems like some kind of High School project. Something about the writing just seems a little immature.

It's like somebody put Gone Home and Silent Hill 2 together. Sounds awesome in concept, but the execution is kind of lackluster. I guess you can't ask for much when it's $5. Loved the QL-regardless!

Remember, any more of his dirty tricks and she'll cut it off!

@corvak: It's the perfect time for Divinity Original Sin to come out. 80+ hour RPGs are great for long summers and harsh winters.

This is super 90's in a sort of Alone in the Dark way, where you can turn the wrong corner and just die out of nowhere. If you can tolerate trial & error games like this, you'll probably come out of it remembering it as a "classic" many years from now.

The "friends" are a Charles Manson-style cult, with your character under the leader's indoctrination.

That felt like watching an episode of an Endurance Run. I approve.

100 DEADS? OH DEARS

SPOILERS: The scary ghost lady came out of the Jumanji game and you have to finish it to kill her.

Not bad for Dan's first QL in the driver's seat.

@hassanisabbah: Dan and Andrew Reiner played through the whole game on Gameinformer's replay segment. It's pretty entertaining stuff if you have a few hours to kill.

This game wouldn't be out of place as a C-tier Resident Evil clone on the PS2... which is why I sort of love that it exists in 2014.

Pretty good QL, game not so much. Think Dan is doing a good job as well, him and Jeff go nicely together.

Why is the main character wearing a nazi armband

So can someone confirm if the lock combination is the Dewys birth year? Never going to play the game but that is reallllllly bugging me not knowing.

Hey man, it worked for Gone Home, a slow-paced first person exploration game, it can work for this...third person poor man's Silent Hill? Sure, why not.

This game looked great (the fixed camera angles, the darkness) riiiiiiiiiiiight up until 2 minutes when the main enemy encounter was introduced. Randomly spawning main foe that can chase you like crazy and can one-hit you and you only have limited stamina? That's not scary, that's frustrating (though I do admit that it is really difficult to keep an enemy like that staying scary and relevant without going across into the frustrating zone).

Also, Dewey suffers from anorexia I think, did anyone else pick that up the last two minutes of the quick look?

All of that pretty much nails the 90's horror games though eh?

Man I love the Jeff + Dan combo, what a great hire. Also loving the sudden barrage of content.

This reminds me of Ecstatica kind of with enemies you can't kill.

The way that '1' is printed... I worked with a guy from Romania who wrote 1's the same way. That is weird.

Jankiness confirmed? I think so, but seems to have some charm also.

This started off pretty slow but the second half was great. This game was strange, you could tell the creator was trying to feed off of nostalgia for SH and RE, but the game looked like it was just frustrating and not fun to play. Great quick look, nonetheless.

This was full of tight-butthole moments for me. Anyone else?

Hey, Dan Ryckert, you're doing an awesome job. You've got great synergy with Jeff seemingly out of the box, and you seem to be encouraging your co-videogamesman to enjoy the idiosyncrasies of contemporary titles again (no mean feat). Keep it up--things are working out great!

I don't know what the hell I just watched, but I loved it! Dan & Jeff have great chemistry.
