It's also hilarious that even though Jeff said "this game looks really nice" or similar positive comments at least 4 or 5 times during the quick look, all these ignorant comments are rambling about how negative Jeff was.

Glad to hear Jeff and crew come around on Luigi as a sympathetic figure after the Year of Luigi went so poorly. Best thing to come out of those angry Luigi gifs.

I don't like how this game doesn't explain anything. I've been avoiding those bumper things this whole time.

I would have placed money on almost all of those things occurring but this was a surprisingly good quick look. First column didn't happen at all. Alex mentioned hating babies but other than that none of those. Second column, Brad mentioned the first Mario Kart thing but not as fact. It was a question of whether they thought that was true. So maybe 1 out of 10 so far. Third column there was general hate from Jeff but maybe because they didn't actually try to recap things from the past they didn't get anything wrong that I can recall. And they disliked the battle mode but I don't think the term "bummer was used. So 2 out of 15. Fourth column, Alex mentioned something about disliking Luigi I think but nothing from Jeff and all the rest turned out false. So 3 out of 20. And final row, Waluigi Jeff did actually hate on and Alex hated on Luigi so that brings us to 5 out of 25 as long as you think Brad cared about the game, which I think he did.

More or less, but the internet is good for nothing if not over-dramatic hyperbole such as, "You aren't ecstatic about the game I like? You're a horrible person and I hate you" and "You like a game I think is trash? You're a horrible person and I hate you". The Giantbomb forums, sadly, aren't immune to this. ;)

Quick things.

A) I think a lot of Alex's track selection was terrible.

B) I think the kart racer Jeff wants is Diddy Kong Racing since the items in that game are not random and there's no rubber banding. Also it's a fucking great game, far better than any its contemporaries.

C) This is a fantastic beautiful looking game but it's not the best looking on the platform, that's Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. I understand you haven't played Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze person reading this comment. Just be aware.

D) Don't think the first Mario Kart you played will always be the best. I started with SNES around 97, thought it controlled like shit, then N64 December 98, which I thought controlled like shit, then DS which played nicely. I wouldn't hesitate to call this the best Mario Kart which has ever been made because come on now. The SNES game is not that good.

This game looks really impressive both visually and gameplay wise! I highly question Alex's sexual tastes for Wario's bum though. Look man, this game has the best looking Wario out there, but don't over-indulge!

the art direction in this game is amazing, love just looking at the backgrounds... wish I owned a WiiU.

@melodiousj: Item usage is a HUGE part of the skill of Mario Kart. There is almost always something you can do about items thrown your way, even Blue Shells. A well timed drift boost will drive you right out of a Blue Shell's radius, for example. The Coins also add another layer of strategy to the game, as well.

Jeff is completely wrong on almost all accounts in this video, not counting his opinions on cart racers in general. He speaks like someone who had very little to zero experience with Mario Kart at all. Kind of sad really...

Does Jeff even have fun with videogames at this point? I guess it doesn't matter, it's all he knows.

It's a shame this game isn't as good as Sonic Racing Transformed. Mario Kart desperately needs to bring challenges back. They had them in MKDS and never again.

This game is sooooo nice looking. Cartoony graphics look so friggin' good in HD. I don't know why so few games used them this past generation.

Just wanna jump on the "Crash Team Racing is the best Kart racer ever" train. It handles better than any Mario Kart, the weapons are better balanced, and the music is better.

BTW The first 3 Crash games still hold up. 4 is okay.

I cant wait for Alex and Vinny content now after watching this and SNES Mario Kart doesn't hold up. N64 Mario Kart still gets played by me and is amazing, sorry Brad and Jeff you're wrong and your opinions are wrong.

Also, we didn't make it 60 seconds without Alex saying 'god dammit'. Don't people get sick of hearing people say that? It is like someone who just says 'fuck' every other sentence. It doesn't make for good content.

I'm not a fan of almost every single design decision made in this game, especially vertical splitscreen for multiplayer - I can never see who's passing me. But those new courses are absolutely brilliant, especially the Star Cup stuff.

PS: Double Dash. Double Dash all the way. Wasn't my first Mario Kart, but it is objectively the best and that is a fact. Suck it, rubes!

Twin Sanity's... not... terrible. Though it's all about the game's writing and humour really; the gameplay admittedly isn't its strong suite. But yeah, Crash 2 & Warped in particular are still fantastic games. I fairly recently went back to 'em and 100%'d both again even.

Dear jeff, please for the love of all things goomba, stop complaining. Let people who like the genre or love the series do the quicklook. Came here after watching streamers from youtube playing this game in its various modes, there was so much excitement and joy, and then i hopped in here, and theres jeff. Good on alex for getting straight into the game, instead of letting the other 2 nag and complain for the first 5 mins.

I loved Tropical Freeze but wouldn't call it the best looking game on Wii U. It certainly looks great, but I'd say it's either this or Wind Waker HD instead.

Also Mario Kart 64 was the first I ever played and while I enjoy it I'd still put the DS MK as the best without a doubt followed by the Mario Kart Wii (loved the bikes, got really good with the Bullet Bike and using Wheelies, and actually quite liked the motion controls) or perhaps this one, and then the SNES. Maybe it's because I played it close to a decade after it came out but MK SNES has never really done anything for me.

Oh, goddamn, a Jeff and Alex QL is just cynicism and existential despair throughout. It's almost funny in contrast to how cute and happy this game is... but only almost. And this is a game they actually kind of like. I feel like I need to go watch Care Bears or something to wash the Scrooge away. Ugh.

If you would have told me that Mario Kart will look like this, back when I was playing Super Mario Kart, I would have thought you were crazy.

SNES MK kinda controls like garbage so...

I dunno, Jeff & Brad. I dunno.

And the items aren't as big of a problem as they're made out to be. MK Wii was a broken-ass game as far as Mario Karts go, and I managed to consistently get 1st or damn near 1st in 80% of random online races I played...and that was while using that dumb Wii wheel. If you're good at the game, the items won't make you not good at the game. You'll still have a substantial edge. I'd go so far as to say that unless you get hit with a blue shell during the last half or quarter of lap 3, you're all but guaranteed to get first place if you have sick MK skills.

Also, Crash Bandicoot is totally a good game that holds up well, if Jeff was implying otherwise. I played it for the first time a year or so ago and had a great time. It's just super hard at some arbitrary points.

You can import your Mii's from the Wii to the WiiU after you transferred your data to the WiiU.

As someone who recently loved the heck out of Sonic and Sega All Stars Transformed, Mario Kart would have to do something substantial. Looks great though, not sure if it would be worth the cost of a Wii U though.

I just wanted to say that @jeff nailed it with his commentary on cart racers and Mario Party games punishing the current leaders. It's actually common in Mario Kart to try to stay in 2nd or 3rd place until the end of a race because it's so unbalanced for whoever is in 1st. I play games to have fun, and nothing is more frustrating than feeling cheated out of winning by the computer.
