Quick Look: Mario Kart 8

The Electrodome track looks like an early 2000s Spice Girls music video.

Man i loved Jak X, the arena mode was really fun. Also watching this makes me want another Modnation Racers, the best of all kart racers.

Easy explanation: Wolpaw's law applied to videos. If Jeff is extremely insufferable for the first half of the video, I couldn't care less how moderately tolerable he is for the second half.

That said, let's all talk about something we can all agree on. Vertical split screen is objectively terrible.

Agreed on the split screen :) The frame rate drop is pretty horrible in the modern age.

The SNES Mario Kart is not a great game. Boom. I played that one first, but prefer the N64 version by a huge margin.

It's really getting annoying. I would have rather have had just Brad and Alex on this one. If he's going to just bitch and moan about how games aren't as good as the good old SNES games, I'm not interested in watching anymore.

What gives you that idea?

They should really stop doing quick looks if they hate videogames so much.

This is a really nice looking game and possible the best looking Wii U game thus far. I enjoyed playing Double Dash for the GCN and as for SuperMario Kart it is good but the odd design choice of only playing on the top half of the screen while the bottom half is for the map kinda sucks.

Game is good. I skipped the Wii games because motion controls and non-HD. Never owned a Gamecube, but playing Double Dash was never as good as SNES MarioKart.

This game is great. Pure fun. If you liked Battle Mode, this is not for you. If you preferred racing, this game is a treat.

That bit they did on fratricidal Luigi in some past podcast was one of their funniest . I need to find it, maybe 2 months ago.

this game looks great, just not sure if I need a wii u for this one game though, I still love my Sonic all stars Transformed.

i got it from gamefly and am really enjoying it, loved all my mario carts, and this one expands a little on the 3ds game and adds more racers and the antigrav stuff. and seeing from this video that they actually did the online properly, makes me excited to play it online after i unlock everyone. after just completing the pretty great DKC: Tropical Freeze this keeps my WiiU in my rotation.

I don't think you can call it a "bullet" once you put a propulsion system on it.

You all are misreading Jeff in this QL. He is not angry, or miserable he is expressing what a lot of us feel about Nintendo, complete boredom.

I agree with the attitude that jeff presents here, I mean it's like recycling old ideas isn't even an option apart from certain characters and certain tracks, I want to see them kind of release a culmination pack with alot of different mechanics, additional characters, and tracks, I enjoyed the idea of double dash the antigrav mechanic is fun at first, but in multiplayer, it really sucks. I'm surprised that the roster isn't larger or more balanced as it's such a ridiculous number of light characters, limited medium and moderate number of heavy characters...I just....I wish there was more to it.

1. This game is amazing. Absolutely the most fun I've had with a console game in a long time.

2. This is some damn bush league Mario Kart play.

3. Jeff is great but he's a cynical bastard.

It's cool to see someone who actually reviewed a game to quick look it, and then proceed to win a dominating fashion.

If you want to see overly positive and gushing reviews about every triple-A release you could always go on Gamespot.

@onlykris: The game is fun. Admitting that doesn't go to the "overly positive" side of the spectrum. I'd like to see something where I don't already know what Jeff will say simply based on the company releasing the game.

I feel like if someone were to watch the quick looks Jeff is in on and base their video game purchase decisions on what he thinks is good, that person would never buy a video game ever.
He's a funny guy, so it's great to see and hear what he has to say, but at the same time... holy crap, man. Consistent negativity.

Generally I agree with Jeff. It comes down to games that reward skill rather than luck and in the end, Mario Kart is too chaotic for me. That said, I enjoy playing it with family because we've always played MK games together since the N64 version so that's different. I would have zero interest playing online against random people.
