@getz: Oh, shit. Okay, I didn't know that. I looked up the album it was on and it said 1996. I just shrugged it off considering the 1999 remaster of Rebel Yell. Turns out the 1996 version of that album is a re-release also. Man, I thought that song sounded weird for 1996.

Alright, let's do this.

Good CRT emulation is great. Full screen stretch that is not linear, even keeping aspect ratio, is bullshit.

Go on, hate on me if you want, but I'm totally right. These games aren't supposed to look like this at all.

I have had so much fun replaying these games on this collection and looking through the concept art. Also this pack just confirms, that Mega Man 4 is the weakest NES Mega Man game.

This Collection is amazing. I played through all six games the week before Metal Gear came out to bide my time and I had a ton of fun. Wanna keep pecking away at the challenge mode. Don't think I'll ever be good enough to get all golds but I want to at least get Silver in every challenge.

Dan and Jeff forgot a feature of the collection, which was boss practice mode that you access through the museum of each game where you can practice against the bosses of the respective game.

It's annoying that the Xbox/PS2 collection is more complete than this.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. That collection has two more full Mega Man games on top of those arcade boss-rush fighters... for around the same price.

Those versions of the games were absolute dogshit though. They fucked with way to much stuff.

Telling the origin story in the fourth part is weird to you two. Well, I remember bigger franchises having done this. One starts with Star.

Oh and yeah, Metal Man first.

Probably my straight up favorite game actually, it or Yoshi's Island.

This collection seems pretty eh.

I was wondering if I was going to regret this purchase since I played a lot of Mega Man 2 and love it but really just suck at all of them. Dan & Jeff going through the museums completely justified it for me.

I know Mega Man 2 is widely considered the best but I think it has some of the worst robot master designs. When I drew Mega Man characters as a kid it was always MM1 and MM3 for me.

YES! Finally someone else who knows this. People just never played 5 and 6 which are both very good and comparable to 2 and 3. 4 is really lackluster, the stages are all murky looking, the music is by far the worst in the series, and the level design while mostly ok just isn't as good as the rest.

I always get annoyed when people just dismiss 5 and 6. I know that at the time people had had their fill of mega man games, but it isn't 1993 anymore and they deserve to be reappraised. I probably like them better than 2 (3 is my favorite still).

That video glitch in 3's select screen was in the original (at least my copy!). I liked 4 a lot, and always thought the core of the series was 2-4. I loved 4's music, but to each their own!

Also loved 8 and its silly cut scenes and even... Jump! Jump! Slide! Slide!

This just reminds me that I don't know a damn thing about Mega Man 4 to 7. And takes me back to Bubbleman's Board of Evil Robot Stuff.

Also, Mega Man Zero Collection is something any fan of these games should own. Those may just be my favorites in the franchise.

Pro play at 5:00.

@danryckert It's not pie-robot, but rather it's a portmanteau of "piero" (Japanese for clown, pronounced pee-eh-roh) and "robot". And because I know you've not asked for it and are totally not curious, I'll also let you know that the Japanese word comes from the French pantomime clown name, Pierrot.

But with all that said, it is a clown robot, so maybe pie-robot is still pretty apt.

Meanwhile, back at the Mega Man games...

I never had an NES growing up, and don't have any sort of relationship with the Mega Man games outside owning The Wily Wars on Mega Drive (which I haven't played and only bought for collecting reasons) and a game each for SNES and PlayStation (both of which I dabbled in minimally). This collection definitely seems like something I wanna pick up, just to maybe fill in those blanks.

Fun fact regarding the pronunciation of "Bubble Lead!" In Japanese, the katakana spelling is "baburu riido," which tells us that "Lead" is pronounced with the hard "e" sound. So Dan's version is correct.

I thought they finally settled on Mettaur as the official romanization...? Whatever, I'll just keep calling them Mets and confuse nearby sports fans.

Also, Bubble Man first.

Edit: I like the challenges. I like the achievements! I was planning on getting this anyway, because Mega Man is my favorite series and I somehow don't legally own a single Mega Man game besides ZX, so it just wouldn't be right to not pounce on the chance to be legit... But the addition of the challenges really does speak to me. It's like I can quantify what I think I know, and how good I think I am, and actually prove it to myself and the world. That's a good addition for classics collections like this.

I mean, it does look terrible by today's standards but it's still a great series of games. Phenomenal gameplay. I will definitely buy this once I finish MGS. I just wish they hadn't botched the trophies so badly.

I will say that the music in these games ROCKS even despite it's age. Fucking Snake man crushes souls.

But in all seriousness, I smell a premium feature. Mega Dan, where Dan attempts the challenges until his hands get so sweaty from tension that the controller short circuits

Today I learned that my shitty megaman boss sketches as a kid weren't so far off from some of their unused bosses.
