One of the reasons I'm getting a New 3DS today.

I have never played one of these, but I am getting my New 3DS today and I think I may get this one, getting good reviews!

I'm relieved this is already shaping up to be the same as every other comment section for Monster Hunter content on this site.

Just finished downloading this on my New 3DSXL. I'm so pumped!

I'm glad Monster Hunter exists for the people who love it but I just don't have that kind of dedication anymore.

If this were coming out on consoles I'd be all over it. I just don't want to play a Monster Hunter game on a Nintendo handheld... even Vita would be way preferable. I just think the 3DS is uncomfortable for this type of game.

@falling_fast: Monster Hunter on 3DS looks bad, but Monster Hunter belongs on handheld. I really wish Sony and Capcom didn't break up the dream. Monster Hunter on the Vita would be so nice, but I guess I'll just deal with thsee textures.

What? People are allowed to say that it's not their kind of game, it's not like it's shitting on the game or anything. And I'd like to add that Monster Hunter is something I try to come back to every few year, but realize every time that it's not my kind of game. I totally understand why people like MH, but there's just too much busy work in MH for it to be worth it for me.

Can't wait to play. After my 2 1/2 hour download O_o

I didn't play a whole lot of MH3U but I thought the encounters were kinda interesting. But I just don't know if I understood what was going on, or maybe I did understand and just didn't like it very much. Dunno if this game will be any different.

The only thing that stopped MH3U from taking over my entire life was the water battles.

They have removed those now.

I'm scared, guys.

This is a pure video game.

After spending around 35 hours in the demo, I am currently awaiting for the post to arrive as I speak so I can play this game. It's been a long wait.

@prikk: The Wii U version of 3 was really good. Beautiful, big screen, good controls (with the pro controller), reasonable online mode... Of course it was also something of an outlier. Monster Hunter's always been a portable game first and foremost, and for some good reasons.

On the plus side, MH-style mechanics are slowly showing up in other games, including some on the big consoles (Dragon's Dogma) and PC (Witcher 3).

This is going to be fun, like a cultural exchange of sort.

Now imagine a guy living in a country where most ppl enjoy monster hunter, while he doesn't.

I've always wanted to play Monster Hunter but there is always something preventing me. I didn't have a PSP so I missed all of those games, and I didn't really want to play this kind of game on my Wii. The thing stopping me from getting the 3DS version is the terrible camera control - I am never going to buy the frankenstein circle pad pro so unless I get a new 3DS I'm not going to play this game either.

Jason at 15:30 is the exact reason to play Monster Hunter. Unloading a can of whoopass on a monster in these games is pure ecstasy.

That sure is a garbage-looking climbing animation. Actually a lot of this is garbage-looking. The game itself looks like a deep, fun concept.

Come back with a real HD version (not just up-rez) for the Wii U and I'd be all over that shit.

I do agree with the people wishing that Monster Hunter would go back to consoles. I'd love for it to return to its birthplace on Playstation and have a great-looking PS4 game. However, with the n3DS right stick camera control and the lack of the god awful under-water levels from MH3U, I'm sure this plays great.

The 3DS does not seem like the ideal way to play these types of games.

Monster Hunter, the series I always want to get into but never can manage to do so.

I played Monster Hunter way back on PSP when it first came out and this looks just as clunky and unfun as it was then. I will never understand the fandom of this series.

We need Jason premium content... I want to see more of MH4

How many are doing that in this thread? I see most people in this thread saying they like MH. Just because someone is saying MH isn't for them doesn't mean they're just "parroting" Jeff's opinion. MH is very much a niche game in the West, a lot of people have tried it and don't like it and can have that opinion without having to parrot Jeff. Stop being so salty just because a few people say they don't really like the MH series.

I love the idea of Monster Hunter, and can totally see where people get into it and love it, but it's just not for me. Enjoyed this quick look and all the talk about Monster Hunter's awesome/crazy weirdness.

People are certainly entitled to their opinions but it just comes off as bandwagoning at some point. Kind of like how Dynasty Warriors games continue to be made for their own niche audience and this somehow upsets people enough to feel the need to state the obvious at every opportunity. I don't mean to come off so salty but it's the same shit every time and doesn't leave much room for discussion.

Anyway, Jeff is very concise about his personal tastes and reasoning and I'm glad he puts effort into coverage by asking the right questions. I hope Jason can dig deeper into this than Patrick, I never thought of the parallels with fighting games as a gateway into the series.

I love the Ryan Davis argument for this game. "I would probably be much better at hunting monsters if me dude didn't have to flex his god damn arms." Seriously, I'm fine with animation centric combat, but I hate how arbitrary the animations in these games are.
